1 Quando o rei Ezequias o ouviu, rasgou suas roupas, cobriu-se de pano de saco e entrou na casa de Iavé.
On hearing this report, King Hezekiah tore his clothes, put on sackcloth, and entered the house of the LORD.
2 Ele enviou Eliakim, que estava sobre a casa, Shebna, o escriba, e os anciãos dos sacerdotes, cobertos com pano de saco, ao profeta Isaías, o filho de Amoz.
And he sent Eliakim the palace administrator, Shebna the scribe, and the leading priests, all wearing sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz
3 Eles lhe disseram: “Hezekiah diz: 'Hoje é um dia de problemas, de repreensão e de rejeição; pois as crianças chegaram ao ponto de nascer, e não há forças para entregá-las'.
to tell him, “This is what Hezekiah says: Today is a day of distress, rebuke, and disgrace; for children have come to the point of birth, but there is no strength to deliver them.
4 Pode ser que Yahweh, seu Deus, ouça todas as palavras de Rabshakeh, que o rei da Assíria, seu mestre, enviou para desafiar o Deus vivo, e repreenda as palavras que Yahweh, seu Deus, ouviu. Portanto, levantai vossa oração pelo remanescente que resta”.
Perhaps the LORD your God will hear all the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to defy the living God, and He will rebuke him for the words that the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remnant that still survives.”
5 Então os servos do rei Ezequias vieram a Isaías.
So the servants of King Hezekiah went to Isaiah,
6 Isaías disse a eles: “Diga isto a seu senhor”: Javé diz: “Não tenham medo das palavras que ouviram, com as quais os servos do rei da Assíria me blasfemaram”.
who replied, “Tell your master that this is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid of the words you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me.
7 Eis que colocarei nele um espírito, e ele ouvirá notícias, e voltará à sua própria terra. Fá-lo-ei cair pela espada em sua própria terra””.
Behold, I will put a spirit in him so that he will hear a rumor and return to his own land, where I will cause him to fall by the sword.’”
8 Então Rabshakeh voltou e encontrou o rei da Assíria em guerra contra Libnah; pois tinha ouvido dizer que havia partido de Laquis.
When the Rabshakeh heard that the king of Assyria had left Lachish, he withdrew and found the king fighting against Libnah.
9 Quando ouviu falar de Tirhakah, rei da Etiópia: “Eis que ele saiu para lutar contra ti”, enviou mensageiros novamente a Ezequias, dizendo:
Now Sennacherib had been warned about Tirhakah king of Cush: “Look, he has set out to fight against you.” So Sennacherib again sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,
10 “Diga isto a Ezequias, rei de Judá”: Não deixe que seu Deus em quem confia o engane, dizendo: Jerusalém não será entregue na mão do rei da Assíria”.
“Give this message to Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God, in whom you trust, deceive you by saying that Jerusalem will not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.
11 Eis que vocês ouviram o que os reis da Assíria fizeram a todas as terras, destruindo-as completamente. Você será entregue?
Surely you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all the other countries, devoting them to destruction. Will you then be spared?
12 Será que os deuses das nações os entregaram, que meus pais destruíram - Gozan, Haran, Rezeph e os filhos do Éden que estavam em Telassar?
Did the gods of the nations destroyed by my fathers rescue those nations—the gods of Gozan, Haran, and Rezeph, and of the people of Eden in Telassar?
13 Onde está o rei de Hamath, o rei de Arpad, e o rei da cidade de Sefarvaim, de Hena, e de Ivvah?
Where are the kings of Hamath, Arpad, Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah?’”
14 Hezekiah recebeu a carta da mão dos mensageiros e a leu. Então Hezekiah foi até a casa de Yahweh e a espalhou antes de Yahweh.
So Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers, read it, and went up to the house of the LORD and spread it out before the LORD.
15 Ezequias orou diante de Iavé e disse: “Iavé, o Deus de Israel, que está entronizado acima dos querubins, tu és o Deus, até mesmo tu sozinho, de todos os reinos da terra”. Vocês fizeram o céu e a terra.
And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD: “O LORD, God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, You alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You made the heavens and the earth.
16 Inclina teu ouvido, Yahweh, e ouve. Abra seus olhos, Javé, e veja. Ouça as palavras de Sennacherib, que ele enviou para desafiar o Deus vivo.
Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see. Listen to the words that Sennacherib has sent to defy the living God.
17 Verdadeiramente, Javé, os reis da Assíria devastaram as nações e suas terras,
Truly, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste these nations and their lands.
18 e lançaram seus deuses no fogo; pois eles não eram deuses, mas obra de mãos de homens, madeira e pedra. Portanto, eles os destruíram.
They have cast their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods, but only wood and stone—the work of human hands.
19 Agora, portanto, Javé, nosso Deus, salvai-nos, peço-vos, da sua mão, que todos os reinos da terra saibam que vós, Javé, sois apenas Deus”.
And now, O LORD our God, please save us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You alone, O LORD, are God.”
20 Então Isaías, filho de Amoz, enviou a Ezequias, dizendo: “Javé, o Deus de Israel, diz: 'Você rezou para mim contra Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, e eu o ouvi.
Then Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I have heard your prayer concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria.
21 Esta é a palavra que Javé falou a respeito dele: 'A virgem filha de Sião te desprezou e te ridicularizou'. A filha de Jerusalém sacudiu sua cabeça para você.
This is the word that the LORD has spoken against him: ‘The Virgin Daughter of Zion despises you and mocks you; the Daughter of Jerusalem shakes her head behind you.
22 A quem você desafiou e blasfemou? Contra quem você exaltou sua voz e ergueu os olhos para o alto? Contra o Santo de Israel!
Whom have you taunted and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!
23 Por seus mensageiros, vocês desafiaram o Senhor e disseram: “Com a multidão de meus carros, subi ao cume das montanhas, às partes mais internas do Líbano, e cortarei seus altos cedros e seus ciprestes escolhidos; e entrarei em seu lugar de hospedagem mais distante, a floresta de seu campo fértil”.
Through your servants you have taunted the Lord, and you have said: “With my many chariots I have ascended to the heights of the mountains, to the remote peaks of Lebanon. I have cut down its tallest cedars, the finest of its cypresses. I have reached its farthest outposts, the densest of its forests.
24 Cavei e bebi águas estranhas, e vou secar todos os rios do Egito com a planta de meus pés”.
I have dug wells and drunk foreign waters. With the soles of my feet I have dried up all the streams of Egypt.”
25 Você não ouviu como o fiz há muito tempo, e o formei dos tempos antigos? Agora eu a fiz passar, que deveria ser sua para colocar os resíduos das cidades fortificadas em montões ruinosos.
Have you not heard? Long ago I ordained it; in days of old I planned it. Now I have brought it to pass, that you should crush fortified cities into piles of rubble.
26 Portanto, seus habitantes tinham pouco poder. Estavam consternados e confusos. Eram como a grama do campo e como a erva verde, como a grama no topo da casa e como o grão que explodiu antes de crescer.
Therefore their inhabitants, devoid of power, are dismayed and ashamed. They are like plants in the field, tender green shoots, grass on the rooftops, scorched before it is grown.
27 Mas eu sei que vocês se sentaram, saíram, entraram e se enfureceram contra mim.
But I know your sitting down, your going out and coming in, and your raging against Me.
28 Por causa de sua fúria contra mim, e porque sua arrogância subiu em minhas orelhas, por isso colocarei meu gancho em seu nariz, e meu freio em seus lábios, e o farei voltar pelo caminho pelo qual você veio”.
Because your rage and arrogance against Me have reached My ears, I will put My hook in your nose and My bit in your mouth; I will send you back the way you came.’
29 “Este será o sinal para você: Este ano, você comerá o que cresce de si mesmo, e no segundo ano o que nasce disso; e no terceiro ano semear e colher, e plantar vinhedos e comer seus frutos.
And this will be a sign to you, O Hezekiah: This year you will eat what grows on its own, and in the second year what springs from the same. But in the third year you will sow and reap; you will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
30 O remanescente que escapou da casa de Judá voltará a criar raízes para baixo, e dará frutos para cima.
And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root below and bear fruit above.
31 Pois de Jerusalém sairá um remanescente, e do Monte Sião sairão os que escaparem. O zelo de Yahweh fará isso.
For a remnant will go forth from Jerusalem, and survivors from Mount Zion. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will accomplish this.
32 “Por isso Yahweh diz a respeito do rei da Assíria: “Ele não virá a esta cidade, nem atirará uma flecha lá”. Ele não virá diante dela com escudo, nem levantará um monte contra ela”.
So this is what the LORD says about the king of Assyria: ‘He will not enter this city or shoot an arrow into it. He will not come before it with a shield or build up a siege ramp against it.
33 Ele voltará do mesmo modo que veio, e não virá a esta cidade”, diz Javé.
He will go back the way he came, and he will not enter this city,’
34 'Pois eu defenderei esta cidade para salvá-la, para meu próprio bem e para o bem do meu servo David'”.
‘I will defend this city and save it for My own sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”
35 Naquela noite, o anjo de Yahweh saiu e atingiu cento e oitenta e cinco mil no acampamento dos assírios. Quando os homens se levantaram cedo pela manhã, eis que eram todos cadáveres.
And that very night the angel of the LORD went out and struck down 185,000 men in the camp of the Assyrians. When the people got up the next morning, there were all the dead bodies!
36 Então Sennacherib, rei da Assíria, partiu, foi para casa e viveu em Nínive.
So Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Nineveh and stayed there.
37 Quando ele estava adorando na casa de Nisroch seu deus, Adrammelech e Sharezer golpearam-no com a espada; e eles escaparam para a terra de Ararat. Esar Haddon, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer put him to the sword and escaped to the land of Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
