1 Samuel 12

1 Samuel disse a todo Israel: “Eis que escutei a tua voz em tudo o que me disseste e fiz um rei sobre ti.

And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and I have set a king over you.

2 Agora, eis que o rei caminha diante de vós. Eu estou velho e de cabeça cinzenta. Eis que meus filhos estão contigo. Caminhei diante de vós desde a minha juventude até os dias de hoje.

And now, behold, the king is walking before you; and I am old and gray-headed; and my sons, behold, they are with you; and I have walked before you from my youth even until this day.

3 Aqui estou eu. Testemunhai contra mim diante de Javé e diante de seu ungido. De quem eu tomei o boi? De quem jumento eu peguei? A quem defraudei? A quem eu oprimi? De quem eu aceitei um suborno para me cegar os olhos? Eu o devolverei a você”.

Behold, here am I; testify against me in the presence of the Lord, and in the presence of his anointed: Whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or from whose hand have I received any ransom so that I withdrew my eyes from him? and I will restore it you.

4 Eles disseram: “Você não nos defraudou, nem nos oprimiu, nem tirou nada da mão de ninguém”.

And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor hast thou oppressed us, and thou hast not taken from any man's hand the least.

5 Ele lhes disse: “Yahweh é testemunha contra você, e seu ungido é testemunha hoje, que você não encontrou nada na minha mão”. Eles disseram: “Ele é testemunha”.

And he said unto them, The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found in my hand the least: and they answered, He is witness.

6 Samuel disse ao povo: “Foi Javé quem nomeou Moisés e Arão, e que tirou seus pais da terra do Egito”.

And Samuel said unto the people, It is the Lord who did [wonders through] Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

7 Agora, portanto, fiquem quietos, para que eu possa pleitear com vocês perante Iavé a respeito de todos os atos justos de Iavé, o que ele fez com vocês e com seus pais.

And now stand up, that I may hold judgment with you before the Lord concerning all the benefits of the Lord, which he hath done to you and to your fathers.

8 “Quando Jacó chegou ao Egito, e seus pais gritaram a Javé, então Javé enviou Moisés e Arão, que trouxeram seus pais do Egito, e os fizeram habitar neste lugar.

When Jacob was come into Egypt, then did your fathers cry unto the Lord, and the Lord sent Moses and Aaron, and they brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and caused them to dwell in this place.

9 Mas eles esqueceram Yavé seu Deus; e ele os vendeu na mão de Sísera, capitão do exército de Hazor, e na mão dos filisteus, e na mão do rei dos moabitas; e eles lutaram contra eles.

And when they forgot the Lord their God, he sold them into the hand of Sissera, the chief of the host of Chazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they made war against them.

10 Eles gritaram a Javé, e disseram: 'Nós pecamos, porque abandonamos Javé e servimos aos Baal e aos Ashtaroth; mas agora livrai-nos da mão de nossos inimigos, e nós vos serviremos'.

And they cried [then] unto the Lord, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken the Lord, and have served the Be'alim and the 'Ashtaroth; and now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee.

11 Yahweh enviou Jerubbaal, Bedan, Jefthah e Samuel, e os libertou da mão de seus inimigos de todos os lados; e vocês viveram em segurança.

And the Lord sent Yerubba'al, and Bedan, and Yiphthach, and Samuel, and he delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, so that ye dwelt safely.

12 “Quando você viu que Naash, o rei dos filhos de Amon, veio contra você, você me disse: 'Não, mas um rei reinará sobre nós', quando Yahweh, seu Deus, era seu rei.

But when ye saw that Nachash the king of the children of 'Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, No; but a king shall reign over us: when the Lord your God is your king.

13 Agora, portanto, veja o rei que você escolheu e a quem você pediu”. Eis que Javé estabeleceu um rei sobre você.

And now here is the king whom ye have chosen, whom ye have asked for! and, behold, the Lord hath set over you a king.

14 Se temerdes a Javé, e o servirdes, e ouvirdes sua voz, e não vos rebelardes contra o mandamento de Javé, então tanto vós como o rei que reina sobre vós sois seguidores de Javé, vosso Deus.

If ye will fear the Lord, and serve him, and obey his voice, and will not rebel against the will of the Lord: then shall both ye and also the king that reigneth over you continue following the Lord your God.

15 Mas se você não ouvir a voz de Iavé, mas se rebelar contra o mandamento de Iavé, então a mão de Iavé estará contra você, como foi contra seus pais.

But if ye will not hearken to the voice of the Lord, and rebel against the will of the Lord: then will the hand of the Lord be against you, as it was against your fathers.

16 “Agora, portanto, fique parado e veja esta grande coisa, o que Yahweh fará diante de seus olhos.

And now stand up and see this great thing, which the Lord is about doing before your eyes.

17 Não é a colheita do trigo hoje? Eu chamarei Javé, para que ele envie trovões e chuva; e você saberá e verá que sua maldade é grande, o que você fez aos olhos de Javé, ao pedir um rei”.

Is there not wheat-harvest today? I will call unto the Lord, and he will send thunders and rain; and ye will [thus] perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done, in the eyes of the Lord, to ask for yourselves a king.

18 Então Samuel ligou para Javé, e Javé enviou trovões e chuva naquele dia. Então todas as pessoas temiam muito a Iavé e Samuel.

And Samuel called unto the Lord; and the Lord sent thunders and rain on that day: and all the people feared greatly the Lord and Samuel.

19 Todo o povo disse a Samuel: “Rogai por vossos servos a Javé vosso Deus, para que não morramos; pois acrescentamos a todos os nossos pecados este mal, para pedir um rei”.

And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray in behalf of thy servants unto the Lord thy God, that we may not die; for we have added unto all our sins yet this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.

20 Samuel disse ao povo: “Não tenha medo”. Você realmente fez todo este mal; no entanto, não se afaste de seguir a Javé, mas sirva a Javé com todo o seu coração”.

And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil: yet turn not aside from following the Lord, and serve ye the Lord with all your heart;

21 Não se afaste para ir atrás de coisas vãs que não podem lucrar ou entregar, pois elas são vãs.

And turn ye not aside; for then would ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; because they are vain.

22 Pois Javé não abandonará seu povo por causa de seu grande nome, porque agradou a Javé fazer de você um povo para si mesmo.

For the Lord will not forsake his people for the sake of his great name; because it hath pleased the Lord to make you a people unto himself.

23 Além disso, quanto a mim, longe de mim que eu deva pecar contra Iavé ao deixar de rezar por você; mas eu o instruirei da maneira boa e correta.

Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray in behalf of you; but I will teach you the good and the right way:

24 Somente temam a Iavé e o servem de verdade com todo o coração; pois considerem as grandes coisas que ele fez por vocês.

Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for see what great things he hath done with you.

25 Mas se você continuar fazendo o mal, você será consumido, tanto você como seu rei”.

But if ye will in any wise do wickedly, both ye yourselves as also your king shall perish.
