Atos 17
1 Paulo e Silas viajaram pelas [cidadezinhas ]de Anfípolis e Apolônia e chegaram à [cidade ]de Tessalônica. Havia lá uma casa de reuniões dos judeus.
Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:
2 [No Sábado/dia de descanso dos judeus, ]Paulo se dirigiu, como de costume, à casa de reuniões. Durante três semanas, [ele passou lá ]o dia de descanso dos judeus. Referindo-se às Escrituras [sobre o Messias, ]ele falou com as pessoas ali reunidas.
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
3 Ele explicou e comprovou que [os profetas tinham escrito que ]o Messias teria que morrer e [depois ]voltar à vida. Ele lhes disse: “Este homem Jesus, de quem lhes falo, é o nosso Messias. [Ele morreu e depois voltou à vida, bem como os profetas predisseram / profetizaram”. ]
Opening and alleging, that Christ must essentially have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
4 Alguns dos judeus [ali presentes ]foram persuadidos por {creram na} [aquilo que Paulo disse ]e passaram a associar-se com Paulo e Silas. Houve ali também muitos gentios/não judeus que adoravam a Deus, e muitas mulheres graúdas/importantes [que também creram na mensagem sobre Jesus ]e começaram a associar-se com Paulo e Silas.
And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
5 Mas [alguns líderes ]dos judeus ali na Tessalônica ficaram ciumentos [por causa das muitas pessoas que acreditaram naquilo que Paulo ensinava. ]Portanto aqueles judeus se dirigiram à praça pública e persuadiram alguns preguiçosos, [que vadiavam por ali, ]a segui-los. [Assim, os líderes ]dos judeus conseguiram reunir uma multidão e incitaram as pessoas a fazerem muito barulho, zangando-se [com Paulo e Silas. ]Aqueles [judeus e outros ]correram até a casa de [um homem chamado ]Jasão. [Foi ele quem tinha convidado Paulo e Silas a se hospedarem em sua casa. ]Eles quiseram tirar Paulo e Silas da casa, levando-os até onde [havia ]uma multidão [de pessoas. ]
But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
6 Ao saberem que Paulo e Silas realmente não se encontravam naquela casa, procuraram o Jasão [e o pegaram. ]Eles arrastavam Jasão e alguns [outros ]cristãos até onde estavam congregados os chefes/oficiais municipais e [muitas outras pessoas. ]Os homens [que trouxeram Jasão ]gritavam: “Esses [dois ]homens causam problemas [IDM] por toda parte [HYP] [por onde eles viajam. ]Agora eles chegaram a nossa cidade,
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come here also;
7 e [esse tal ]de Jasão os convidou a se hospedarem na casa dele. Todos os membros [desse grupo ]desobedecem / se opõem (a)os decretos do nosso Imperador. Eles afirmam que o [verdadeiro ]governante/rei é outro homem, chamado Jesus!”
Whom Jason has received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
8 Quando a multidão [ali congregada ]e os chefes municipais ouviram isso, eles ficaram bem zangados e perturbados.
And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.
9 [Eles quiseram botar os cristãos na cadeia. Mas em vez de assim fazerem, ]os oficiais obrigaram Jasão e os demais [cristãos ]a pagarem uma multa e prometeram [devolver-lhes o dinheiro se Paulo e Silas não provocassem mais problemas. ]Então os chefes soltaram Jasão e os demais cristãos.
And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.
10 Naquela mesma noite, os cristãos mandaram Paulo e Silas [embora de Tessalônica] para [a cidade ]de Bereia. Ao chegarem lá, Paulo e Silas se dirigiram à casa de reuniões dos judeus, [num dia em que muitas pessoas estavam congregadas ali. ]
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
11 Os [judeus ]da Tessalônica não estavam dispostos a ouvir a mensagem de Deus, mas os [judeus ]que moravam na Bereia tinham boa disposição para ouvir, portanto escutaram atenciosamente a mensagem [sobre Jesus. ]Todos os dias [eles mesmos ]leram as Escrituras para se certificarem de que aquilo que Paulo [estava dizendo sobre o Messias ]era de fato verdade.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word (logos) with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
12 Consequentemente, muitos dos judeus creram [em Jesus; ]outrossim, [creram nele ]algumas das importantes mulheres gentias/não judias e muitos homens não judeus.
Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.
13 Mas então os judeus da Tessalônica ouviram [dizer ]que Paulo [estava ]na Bereia e que a mensagem de Deus [acerca de Jesus ]estava sendo pregada por ele {que ele estava pregando a mensagem de Deus [sobre Jesus]}. Por isso eles foram à Bereia e [disseram a muitas pessoas lá que não era verdade aquilo que Paulo estava ensinando. Assim, ]eles fizeram com que muitas daquelas pessoas se zangassem [com Paulo].
But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word (logos) of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.
14 Por isso [vários ]dos cristãos [na Bereia ]escoltaram Paulo até o litoral para que pudesse [partir para outra província. ]Mas Silas e Timóteo permaneceram na Bereia.
And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.
15 Quando Paulo e os demais homens [chegaram ao litoral, embarcaram num navio e ]viajaram para [a cidade de ]Atenas. Então Paulo disse [aos homens que o tinham acompanhado: ]“Mandem Silas e Timóteo virem ter comigo/me encontrarem [aqui em Atenas ]o mais cedo possível”. Então aqueles homens saíram [de Atenas e voltaram à Bereia.]
And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus in order to come to him with all speed, they departed.
16 Em Atenas, Paulo esperava [a chegada de ]Silas e Timóteo. [Enquanto isso, ele andava pela cidade. ]Paulo ficou muito aflito/perturbado ao ver que, por toda [HYP] na cidade, havia muitos ídolos [cultuados pelos habitantes].
Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit (pneuma) was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
17 Por isso, ele se dirigiu à casa de reuniões dos judeus e falou [de Jesus ]aos judeus e aos gregos que aceitavam a crença dos judeus. Ele também visitava diariamente a praça pública e conversava com as pessoas [que ]lá [encontrava.]
Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
18 Paulo deparou com alguns professores que gostavam de falar sobre aquilo que as pessoas deveriam crer. [As pessoas chamavam ]alguns deles de “epicureus” e [chamavam ]outros de “estóicos”. Eles explicaram a Paulo [aquilo que acreditavam ]e lhe perguntaram [o que ele acreditava. Então ]alguns deles disseram [uns aos outros: ]“Esse ignorante está dizendo somente bobagem [RHQ]!” Outros disseram: “[Parece-nos ](excl) que ele está ensinando sobre deuses [estrangeiros/novos ]que nós (excl) desconhecemos”. Eles disseram isso porque Paulo lhes dizia que [Jesus tinha morrido e ]que tinha voltado à vida [depois de morrer. Eles nunca tinham ouvido aquela mensagem.]
Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seems to be a proclaimer of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.
19 Por isso eles o levaram ao lugar onde se reunia o Conselho Municipal. [Ao chegarem ]lá, eles disseram a Paulo: “[Por favor, ]conte-nos qual é a nova mensagem que você está ensinando às pessoas {que está sendo ensinada por você}?
And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof you speak, is?
20 Você está ensinando algumas coisas que nos surpreendem, quando as ouvimos (excl), portanto queremos saber o significado delas”.
For you bring certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.
21 [Eles assim falaram, pois ]os habitantes de Atenas, como também os de outras regiões que ali moravam, conversavam continuamente sobre as novidades ou escutavam [outras pessoas explicarem ]as coisas novas.
(For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)
22 Então Paulo se levantou em presença dos homens do Conselho Municipal e disse: “Cidadãos de Atenas, eu vejo/percebo que vocês são muito religiosos/acham muito importante adorar muitos deuses.
Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, All of you men of Athens, I perceive that in all things all of you are too superstitious.
23 [Digo isso ]porque, ao perambular pela cidade, observando os objetos [que representam diversos deuses que ]vocês cultuam, vi inclusive um altar [contendo ]as seguintes palavras gravadas/escritas [por alguém: ISTO HOMENAGEIA ]O Deus [QUE NÓS ](excl) NÃO CONHECEMOS. Por isso vou lhes falar agora [daquele Deus ]que vocês cultuam sem conhecer.
For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore all of you ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.
24 Ele é o Deus que fez o mundo e tudo que existe nele. Já que governa [todos os seres no ]céu e [na ]terra, Ele não mora em santuários construídos por seres humanos.
God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples made with hands;
25 Ele não precisa de nada feito pelos seres humanos [MTY] {não precisa que os seres humanos façam [MTY] nada para Ele}, pois tudo que existe pertence a Ele. É Ele quem faz que nós/todos os seres humanos vivamos/vivam e respiremos/respirem e [Ele nos dá ]todas as coisas [de que precisamos ](incl).
Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he gives to all life, and breath, and all things;
26 [No começo], Deus criou um homem e dele Deus produziu todas as raças/nações que habitam agora na terra. Outrossim, Ele determinou onde cada grupo/raça de seres humanos fosse morar e durante quanto tempo cada grupo/raça habitaria [aqueles lugares. ]
And has made of one blood all nations of men in order to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
27 Ele desejava que os seres humanos se dessem conta da sua necessidade dele. Então talvez fossem buscá-lo e encontrá-lo. [Deus quer que nós O busquemos, ]mesmo que Ele esteja [bem ]pertinho [LIT] de cada um de nós.
That they should seek the Lord, if lest by any means they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 Como alguém já disse: ‘[É só ]por Ele nos capacitar que nós (incl) conseguimos viver, nos movimentar e fazer [o que fazemos]’. E, como alguns dos seus próprios poetas/escritores já disseram: ‘Nós (incl) somos filhos de Deus’.
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
29 Portanto, por sermos filhos de Deus nós (incl) não devemos pensar que Ele seja parecido com uma imagem [feita ]de ouro ou prata ou pedra [por mãos humanas]. As pessoas desenham e confeccionam com perícia aquelas imagens, [mas elas não estão vivas. ]
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by are and man's device.
30 Durante a época em que os seres humanos nem sabiam [o que Deus queria que eles fizessem, ]Ele não [os ]castigava [imediatamente por causa disso. ]Mas agora Deus manda que todas as pessoas por toda parte se afastem dos seus maus caminhos.
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men every where to repent:
31 [Ele nos avisa ]que, em determinado dia escolhido por Ele mesmo, Ele julgará [todos nós (incl) seres humanos no ][MTY] mundo. Ele já nomeou [certo ]homem para [nos ]julgar, [e aquele homem julgará cada um de nós de ]forma justa/reta. Deus já mostrou a todos os [seres humanos que Ele nomeou aquele homem para julgar todo o mundo, ]pois Deus o fez voltar à vida após ter morrido”.
Because he has appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he has ordained; whereof he has given assurance unto all men, in that he has raised him from the dead.
32 Quando os homens do Conselho ouviram [Paulo ]afirmar que um homem tinha voltado à vida após ter morrido, alguns deles riram com desprezo. Mas outros disseram: “Nós (excl) gostaríamos que você nos contasse mais sobre este assunto em outra ocasião”.
And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear you again of this matter.
33 Depois disso, Paulo saiu da [reunião ]do Conselho.
So Paul departed from among them.
34 Contudo, algumas das pessoas ali reunidas acompanharam Paulo e se tornaram cristãs. Entre aqueles [que passaram a crer em Jesus ]houve um membro do Conselho. [Ele se chamava ]Dionísio. Houve também uma mulher [graúda/importante ]chamada Dâmaris e algumas outras pessoas [que ouviram a palestra/mensagem de Paulo e passaram a crer em Jesus].
Nevertheless certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
