Romanos 11
1 Mas, então, eu pergunto: “Deus rejeitou o seu povo?” É claro que não! Eu mesmo sou um israelita, da tribo de Benjamim.
I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, [of] the tribe of Benjamin.
2 Deus não rejeitou o povo que ele mesmo escolheu. Vocês não se recordam do que está escrito nas Sagradas Escrituras sobre Elias? Como Elias se queixou do povo de Israel para Deus, ao dizer:
God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel, saying,
3 “Senhor, eles mataram os seus profetas e destruíram os seus altares. Eu fui o último que restou, e eles estão tentando me matar também!”
Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
4 Qual a resposta que Deus deu para Elias?: “Eu ainda tenho sete mil homens que não adoraram o deus Baal.”
But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to [the image of] Baal.
5 A mesma coisa também acontece agora: ainda restam algumas pessoas que creem, escolhidas pela graça de Deus.
Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
6 E já que é pela graça, então, está claro que não se baseia nas ações das pessoas. Caso contrário, a graça não seria verdadeira graça!
And if by grace, then [is it] no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if [it be] of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
7 Então, o que podemos concluir? Que o povo de Israel não alcançou o que eles tanto buscavam; apenas os escolhidos encontraram, mas o coração dos outros se tornou duro como pedra.
What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
8 Como está escrito nas Sagradas Escrituras: “Deus endureceu o coração e a mente deles, e deu-lhes olhos que não podem ver e ouvidos que não podem escutar, até o dia de hoje.”
(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear; ) unto this day.
9 Davi acrescenta: “Que as suas festas se tornem armadilhas para eles, uma rede que os apanhe, uma tentação que traz a punição.
And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:
10 Que eles fiquem cegos; assim eles não poderão ver, e que suas costas sempre se curvem sob o peso de suas dificuldades.”
Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.
11 Quer dizer que estou dizendo que eles tropeçaram e que, assim, falharam completamente? De forma alguma! Mas, como consequência dos seus erros, a salvação veio para outras nações, para “deixá-los com ciúmes.”
I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but [rather] through their fall salvation [is come] unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
12 Agora, ainda que a falha deles tenha beneficiado o mundo, e a perda deles tenha trazido proveito para os não-judeus, como seria tão mais positivo se eles tivessem cumprido completamente o que deveria ser feito.
Now if the fall of them [be] the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?
13 Agora, falarei a vocês, não-judeus. Sendo eu um missionário para os não-judeus, divulgo o que estou fazendo,
For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:
14 para que talvez possa trazer certo ciúme ao meu povo, conseguindo fazer com que alguns deles sejam salvos.
If by any means I may provoke to emulation [them which are] my flesh, and might save some of them.
15 Se a rejeição de Deus por eles torna o mundo amigo de Deus, então, a aceitação deles por parte de Deus seria como um morto voltando a viver!
For if the casting away of them [be] the reconciling of the world, what [shall] the receiving [of them be], but life from the dead?
16 Se a primeira parte da massa do pão dado como uma oferta a Deus é santo, então, assim também é todo o resto do pão. Se as raízes de uma árvore são santas, então, também são santos os galhos.
For if the firstfruit [be] holy, the lump [is] also [holy]: and if the root [be] holy, so [are] the branches.
17 Mas, se alguns dos galhos foram quebrados, e vocês, sendo oliveira brava, foram enxertados entre eles e tiveram compartilhado com eles os benefícios dos nutrientes das raízes da oliveira,
And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree;
18 então, vocês não deveriam desprezar os outros galhos. Se vocês forem tentados a se vangloriar, lembrem-se de que não são vocês que sustentam as raízes, mas as raízes que os sustentam.
Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.
19 Vocês poderiam afirmar: “Os galhos foram quebrados e, por isso, eu pude ser enxertado.”
Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.
20 Está certo. Mas, eles foram quebrados porque não creram, e vocês permanecem ali, pois creem em Deus. Então, não se orgulhem tanto de si mesmos e, sim, tenham respeito.
Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21 Pois se Deus não poupou os galhos originais da oliveira, ele também não os poupará.
For if God spared not the natural branches, [take heed] lest he also spare not thee.
22 Vocês deveriam reconhecer tanto a bondade quanto a severidade de Deus. Ele é duro com aqueles que caíram, mas é bondoso para vocês, desde que creiam em sua bondade. Caso contrário, vocês também serão cortados.
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in [his] goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
23 Se eles não permanecerem na incredulidade também poderão ser enxertados, pois Deus é capaz de enxertá-los novamente.
And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: for God is able to graff them in again.
24 Se vocês puderam ser cortados de uma oliveira brava, sendo depois enxertados em uma oliveira cultivada, muito mais facilmente eles poderão ser enxertados naturalmente em sua própria árvore.
For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural [branches], be graffed into their own olive tree?
25 Eu não quero que vocês, meus irmãos e minhas irmãs, percam esta verdade que antes estava oculta; caso contrário, vocês poderiam se tornar arrogantes: que o povo de Israel não ficará insensível para sempre, mas somente até que o processo da chegada dos não-judeus esteja completo.
For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26 É dessa maneira que todo o povo de Israel será salvo. Como as Sagradas Escrituras dizem: “O Salvador virá de Sião, e ele afastará Jacó da sua posição contrária a Deus.
And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
27 Minha promessa para eles é que eu acabarei com os seus pecados.”
For this [is] my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.
28 Embora eles sejam inimigos do evangelho, e isso é um benefício para vocês, não-judeus, eles ainda são o povo escolhido e são amados por causa dos seus patriarcas.
As concerning the gospel, [they are] enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, [they are] beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
29 Os dons de Deus e o seu chamado não podem ser retirados.
For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance.
30 Em algum momento, vocês, não-judeus, desobedeceram a Deus. Mas, por conta da desobediência dos judeus, Deus demonstrou a sua misericórdia para vocês.
For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:
31 Exatamente da mesma maneira, os judeus são agora desobedientes como vocês foram, mas Deus também demonstrará misericórdia, como aconteceu com vocês.
Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
32 Pois Deus tratou a todos como prisioneiros da desobediência, para que ele pudesse ser misericordioso com todos. (eleēsē g1653)
For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all. (eleēsē g1653)
33 Oh, como são grandes as riquezas de Deus! Como são profundos o seu conhecimento e a sua sabedoria! Como as suas decisões são incríveis e os seus métodos, inimagináveis!
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable [are] his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 Quem pode conhecer os pensamentos de Deus? Quem pode dar conselhos a ele?
For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Quem alguma vez deu algo a Deus que ele fosse obrigado a pagar?
Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
