Romanos 4
1 Então, que diremos que Abraão, nosso ancestral segundo a carne, obteve?
What shall we then say that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
2 Pois se Abraão foi justificado pelas obras, ele tem do que se orgulhar, mas não diante de Deus.
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath [whereof] to glory, but not before God.
3 Pois o que diz a Escritura? Abraão creu em Deus, e isso lhe foi lhe imputado como justiça.
For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness.
4 Ora, ao que trabalha, seu pagamento não é considerado um favor, mas sim, uma dívida.
Now to him that worketh, is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 Porém, ao que não tem obra, mas crê naquele que torna justo o ímpio, sua fé lhe é reputada como justiça.
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Desta maneira, também Davi afirma que bendito é aquele a quem Deus atribui justiça independentemente das obras:
Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man to whom God imputeth righteousness without works,
7 Benditos são os que têm as transgressões perdoadas, e seus pecados são cobertos.
[Saying], Blessed [are] they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
8 Bendito é o homem a quem o Senhor não atribui pecado.
Blessed [is] the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.
9 Ora, essa bendição [é somente] para os circuncisos, ou também para os incircuncisos? Pois dizemos que a fé a Abraão foi reputada como justiça.
[Cometh] this blessedness then upon the circumcision [only], or upon the uncircumcision also? For we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
10 Como, pois, [lhe] foi reputada? Enquanto ele estava na circuncisão ou na incircuncisão? Não na circuncisão, mas sim, na incircuncisão.
How then was it reckoned? when he was in circumcision, or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
11 E ele recebeu o sinal da circuncisão como selo da justiça da fé quando ainda era incircunciso, para que fosse pai de todos os que creem, ainda que não estejam circuncidados, para que a justiça [ também ] lhes seja imputada;
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith, which [he had yet] being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they are not circumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also;
12 e para que fosse pai da circuncisão, dos que não somente são circuncidados, mas que também andam nos passos da fé do nosso pai Abraão, quando ainda não era circuncidado.
And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which [he had] being [yet] uncircumcised.
13 Pois não foi pela Lei que a promessa de ser herdeiro do mundo [foi feita] a Abraão ou à sua descendência, mas sim, pela justiça da fé;
For the promise that he should be the heir of the world [was] not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
14 porque, se é da Lei que são os herdeiros, logo a fé se torna vazia, e a promessa é anulada.
For if they who are of the law [are] heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of no effect.
15 Pois a Lei produz ira, mas onde não há Lei, também não há transgressão.
Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, [there is] no transgression.
16 Por isso é pela fé, para que seja conforme a graça, a fim de que a promessa seja confirmada a todos os descendentes, não somente aos que são da Lei, mas também aos que são da fé de Abraão, que é Pai de todos nós,
Therefore [it is] of faith, that [it might be] by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all;
17 (como está escrito: “Eu te constituí pai de muitas nações”) diante daquele em quem ele creu, Deus, que vivifica os mortos, e chama as coisas que não são como se já fossem.
(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations) before him whom he believed, [even] God, who reviveth the dead, and calleth those things which are not, as though they were.
18 Com esperança, [Abraão] creu, contra as expectativas, que se tornaria pai de muitas nações, conforme o que [lhe] fora dito: “Assim será a tua descendência”.
Who against hope believed with hope, that he should become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
19 Ele não fraquejou na fé, mesmo considerando o seu próprio corpo já praticamente morto (pois já era de quase cem anos), e o ventre de Sara em estado de morte;
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb.
20 nem duvidou da promessa de Deus; pelo contrário, fortaleceu-se na fé, dando glória a Deus;
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
21 e teve plena certeza de que aquele que havia prometido também era poderoso para cumprir.
And being fully persuaded, that what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
22 Por esse motivo que também isso lhe foi imputado como justiça.
And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
23 Ora, não só por causa dele está escrito que lhe foi imputado;
Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;
24 mas também por nós, a quem será imputado, aos que creem naquele que ressuscitou dos mortos a Jesus, nosso Senhor,
But for us also, to whom it will be imputed, if we believe on him that raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
25 que foi entregue por nossos pecados, e ressuscitou para a nossa justificação.
Who was delivered for our offenses, and raised again for our justification.
