Provérbios 25
1 Estes também são provérbios de Salomão, que foram copiados pelos homens de Ezequias, rei de Judá.
These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
2 É glória de Deus encobrir alguma coisa; mas a glória dos Reis é investigá-la.
It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
3 Para a altura dos céus, para a profundeza da terra, assim como para o coração dos reis, não há como serem investigados.
The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
4 Tira as escórias da prata, e sairá um vaso para o fundidor.
Take away the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth a vessel for the refiner;
5 Tira o perverso de diante do rei, e seu trono se firmará com justiça.
Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
6 Não honres a ti mesmo perante o rei, nem te ponhas no lugar dos grandes;
Glorify not thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men;
7 Porque é melhor que te digam: Sobe aqui; Do que te rebaixem perante a face do príncipe, a quem teus olhos viram.
For better is it that it be said unto thee: 'Come up hither', than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom thine eyes have seen.
8 Não sejas apressado para entrar numa disputa; senão, o que farás se no fim teu próximo te envergonhar?
Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
9 Disputa tua causa com teu próximo, mas não reveles segredo de outra pessoa.
Debate thy cause with thy neighbour, but reveal not the secret of another;
10 Para que não te envergonhe aquele que ouvir; pois tua má fama não pode ser desfeita.
Lest he that heareth it revile thee, and thine infamy turn not away.
11 A palavra dita em tempo apropriado é [como] maçãs de ouro em bandejas de prata.
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
12 O sábio que repreende junto a um ouvido disposto a escutar é [como] pendentes de ouro e ornamentos de ouro refinado.
As an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
13 Como frio de neve no tempo da colheita, [assim] é o mensageiro fiel para aqueles que o enviam; porque ele refresca a alma de seus senhores.
As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to him that sendeth him; for he refresheth the soul of his master.
14 [Como] nuvens e ventos que não trazem chuva, [assim] é o homem que se orgulha de falsos presentes.
As vapours and wind without rain, so is he that boasteth himself of a false gift.
15 Com paciência para não se irar é que se convence um líder; e a língua suave quebra ossos.
By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
16 Achaste mel? Come o que te for suficiente; para que não venhas a ficar cheio demais, e vomites.
Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
17 Não exagere teus pés na casa de teu próximo, para que ele não se canse de ti, e te odeie.
Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbour's house; lest he be sated with thee, and hate thee.
18 Martelo, espada e flecha afiada é o homem que fala falso testemunho contra seu próximo.
As a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow, so is a man that beareth false witness against his neighbour.
19 Confiar num infiel no tempo de angústia é [como] um dente quebrado ou um pé sem firmeza.
Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
20 Quem canta canções ao coração aflito é como aquele que tira a roupa num dia frio, ou como vinagre sobre salitre.
As one that taketh off a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
21 Se aquele que te odeia tiver fome, dá-lhe pão para comer; e se tiver sede, dá-lhe água para beber;
If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink;
22 Porque [assim] amontoarás brasas sobre a cabeça dele, e o SENHOR te recompensará.
For thou wilt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.
23 O vento norte traz a chuva; [assim como] a língua caluniadora [traz] a ira no rosto.
The north wind bringeth forth rain, and a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.
24 É melhor morar num canto do terraço do que com uma mulher briguenta numa casa espaçosa.
It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than in a house in common with a contentious woman.
25 [Como] água refrescante para a alma cansada, assim são boas notícias de uma terra distante.
As cold waters to a faint soul, so is good news from a far country.
26 O justo que se deixa levar pelo perverso é [como] uma fonte turva e um manancial poluído.
As a troubled fountain, and a corrupted spring, so is a righteous man that giveth way before the wicked.
27 Comer muito mel não é bom; assim como buscar muita glória para si.
It is not good to eat much honey; so for men to search out their own glory is not glory.
28 O homem que não pode conter seu espírito é [como] uma cidade derrubada sem muro.
Like a city broken down and without a wall, so is he whose spirit is without restraint.
