Provérbios 24
1 Não tenhas inveja dos homens malignos, nem desejes estar com eles;
Don't be jealous of evil people; don't long to spend time with them,
2 Porque o coração deles imagina destruição, e os lábios deles falam de opressão.
for they think up cruel plans and discuss how to cause trouble.
3 Pela sabedoria a casa é edificada, e pelo entendimento ela fica firme;
A house is built by wisdom; its foundation is made secure through understanding.
4 E pelo conhecimento os cômodos se encherão de riquezas preciosas e agradáveis.
Its rooms are filled by knowledge with all kinds of valuable and beautiful objects.
5 O homem sábio é poderoso; e o homem que tem conhecimento aumenta [sua] força;
If you have wisdom, you are strong; if you have knowledge, your power increases,
6 Porque com conselhos prudentes farás tua guerra; e a vitória [é alcançada] pela abundância de conselheiros.
for with wise guidance you can go to war; you will be victorious by having many good advisors.
7 A sabedoria é alta demais para o tolo; na porta [do julgamento] ele não abre sua boca.
Wisdom goes over the heads of stupid people; they have nothing to contribute when important matters are discussed.
8 Quem planeja fazer o mal será chamado de vilão.
Anyone who plans to do evil will be seen as a troublemaker.
9 O pensamento do tolo é pecado; e o zombador é abominável aos homens.
Plans thought up by stupid people are sinful. Everyone hates those who are scornful of others.
10 [Se] te mostrares fraco no dia da angústia, como é pouca tua força!
If you give up in times of trouble, it shows how weak you are.
11 Livra os que estão tomados para a morte, os que estão sendo levados para serem mortos;
Rescue those who are being led away to be executed; save those who are stumbling on their way to be slaughtered.
12 Pois se tu disseres: Eis que não sabíamos, Por acaso aquele que pesa os corações não saberá? Aquele que guarda tua alma não conhecerá? Ele retribuirá ao homem conforme sua obra.
If you say, “Look, we didn't know anything about this,” don't you think the God who judges your motives will see what's happening? He who watches over you knows, and he will pay people back for what they've done.
13 Come mel, meu filho, porque é bom; e o favo de mel é doce ao teu paladar.
My son, eating honey is good for you; the honeycomb tastes sweet.
14 Assim será o conhecimento da sabedoria para tua alma; se a encontrares haverá recompensa [para ti]; e tua esperança não será cortada.
In the same way, you should know that wisdom is good for you; if you find it, there will be a future for you, and your hope will not be crushed.
15 Tu, perverso, não espies a habitação do justo, nem assoles seu quarto;
Don't be like a criminal waiting to ambush the home of good people; don't attack the place where they live.
16 Porque o justo cai sete vezes, e se levanta; mas os perversos tropeçam no mal.
Those who do right may fall down seven times, and still get up again; but the wicked are brought down by disaster.
17 Quando teu inimigo cair, não te alegres; nem teu coração fique contente quando ele tropeçar,
Don't celebrate when your enemies fall; don't be glad when they trip up,
18 Para que não [aconteça] de o SENHOR veja, e o desagrade, e desvie dele sua ira.
otherwise when the Lord sees it, he'll be unhappy with you and won't punish your enemies as he planned.
19 Não te irrites com os malfeitores, nem tenhas inveja dos perversos;
Don't get all upset over the wicked, or be jealous of those who do wrong,
20 Porque o maligno não terá um bom futuro; a lâmpada dos perversos se apagará.
for evil people have no future—the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out.
21 Meu filho, teme ao SENHOR e ao rei; e não te envolvas com os rebeldes;
My son, honor the Lord and the king, and don't join those who are rebellious,
22 Porque a destruição deles se levantará de repente; e quem sabe que ruína eles terão?
for disaster will suddenly fall on them. Who knows how the Lord and king will punish them?
23 Estes [provérbios] também são para os sábios: fazer acepção de pessoas num julgamento não é bom.
These are more sayings of the wise: Showing favoritism when passing judgment is wrong.
24 Aquele que disser ao ímpio: Tu és justo, Os povos o amaldiçoarão, as nações o detestarão.
Those who tell the guilty, “You're innocent,” will be cursed by the people and hated by the nation,
25 Mas para aqueles que [o] repreenderem, haverá coisas boas; e sobre eles virá uma boa bênção.
while those who convict the guilty will be appreciated, and will receive a rich blessing.
26 Quem responde palavras corretas é [como se] estivesse beijando com os lábios.
An honest answer is a kiss on the lips.
27 Prepara o teu trabalho de fora, e deixa pronto o teu campo; então depois, edifica a tua casa.
Do the work you need to do outside first, then prepare and sow your fields, and only after that start building your house.
28 Não sejas testemunha contra o teu próximo sem causa; por que enganarias com teus lábios?
Don't testify against your neighbors without having a good reason, and don't tell lies.
29 Não digas: Assim como ele fez a mim, assim também farei a ele; pagarei a cada um conforme sua obra.
Don't say to yourself, “I'm going to do to him what he did to me! I'll pay him back for what he's done!”
30 Passei junto ao campo do preguiçoso, e junto à vinha do homem sem juízo;
I walked past the field of a lazy man, past a vineyard of someone with no sense.
31 e eis que ela estava toda cheia de espinheiros, [e] sua superfície coberta de urtigas; e o seu muro de pedras estava derrubado.
It was all overgrown with thorns, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall had fallen down.
32 Quando eu vi [isso], aprendi em meu coração, e, olhando, recebi instrução:
As I looked I thought about it, and what I saw taught me a lesson:
33 um pouco de sono, cochilando um pouco, cruzando as mãos por um pouco de tempo, deitado,
You may say, “Please, just a little more sleep, a little longer snooze, a little more folding of the arms to rest”—
34 e assim a tua pobreza virá como um assaltante; a tua necessidade, como um homem armado.
and poverty will attack you like a robber, destitution like an armed warrior.
