Provérbios 22
1 É preferível ter um [bom] nome do que muitas riquezas; e ser favorecido é melhor que a prata e o o ouro.
A good reputation is a much better choice than plenty of money; respect is better than silver and gold.
2 O rico e o pobre se encontram; todos eles foram feitos pelo SENHOR.
The rich and the poor have this in common: the Lord created them all.
3 O prudente vê o mal, e se esconde; mas os ingênuos passam e sofrem as consequências.
If you're sensible you see danger coming and get out of the way; but stupid people just keep going and pay for it.
4 A recompensa da humildade [e do] temor ao SENHOR são riquezas, honra, e vida.
The reward you receive for being humble and respecting the Lord is wealth, honor, and life.
5 [Há] espinhos e ciladas no caminho do perverso; quem cuida de sua alma deve ficar longe de [tal caminho].
Thorns and traps lie in the path of crooked people; those who value their lives will stay away from them.
6 Instrui ao menino em seu caminho, e até quando envelhecer, não se desviará dele.
Teach children the right way to live, and when they grow up they'll go on doing so.
7 O rico domina sobre os pobres, e quem toma emprestado é servo daquele que empresta.
The rich rule the poor, and borrowers are slaves to their lenders.
8 Aquele que semeia perversidade colherá sofrimento; e a vara de sua ira se acabará.
Those who sow injustice will reap disaster, and the angry beatings they inflict on others will be stopped.
9 Quem tem olhos bondosos será abençoado, porque deu de seu pão ao pobre.
If you're generous, you'll be blessed, for you share your food with those in need.
10 Expulsa ao zombador, e a briga terminará; cessará a disputa e a vergonha.
Get rid of the scornful, and you'll get rid of conflict too—no more arguments or insults!
11 Quem ama a pureza do coração [fala] graciosamente com os lábios, [e] o rei [será] seu amigo.
Anyone who loves sincerity and a gracious way of speaking will have the king as their friend.
12 Os olhos do SENHOR protegem o conhecimento; porém ele transtornará as palavras do enganador.
The Lord watches over true knowledge, but counteracts the words of liars.
13 O preguiçoso diz: Há um leão lá fora! Ele me matará nas ruas!
Lazy people make claims like, “There's a lion outside! I might be killed if I go out there!”
14 A boca da mulher pervertida é uma cova profunda; aquele contra quem o SENHOR se irar cairá nela.
The seductive words of an immoral woman are a dangerous trap—if the Lord's angry with you, then you'll fall right in.
15 A tolice está amarrada ao coração do menino; [mas] a vara da correção a mandará para longe dele.
Children are naturally foolish; physical correction helps them to see sense.
16 Aquele que oprime ao pobre para proveito próprio e aquele que dá [suborno] ao rico certamente empobrecerão.
If you oppress the poor to make yourself rich, or if you're generous to the rich, you'll end up poor yourself.
17 Inclina o teu ouvido e escuta as palavras dos sábios; dispõe teu coração ao meu conhecimento;
Pay attention and listen to the words of the wise, and think carefully about my teachings—
18 porque é agradável que as guardes dentro de ti, e estejam prontas para os teus lábios;
for it's good to keep them in mind so you can be ready to share them.
19 para que tua confiança esteja no SENHOR, eu as ensino a ti hoje.
I'm explaining this to you today so you can trust in the Lord—yes, you!
20 Por acaso não te escrevi excelentes coisas sobre o conselho e o conhecimento,
Haven't I written down for you thirty sayings of advice and wisdom?
21 para te ensinar a certeza das palavras da verdade, para que possas responder palavras de verdade aos que te enviarem?
They are to make it clear to you what's right and true, so you can give a truthful explanation to those who sent you.
22 Não roubes ao pobre, porque ele é pobre; nem oprimas ao aflito junto à porta do julgamento.
For you shouldn't steal from the poor just because they're poor; and you shouldn't crush those with limited means in court,
23 Porque o SENHOR defenderá a causa deles em juízo, e quanto aos que os roubam, ele lhes roubará a alma.
for the Lord will plead their case, and he will take back whatever was stolen from them.
24 Não seja companheiro de quem se irrita facilmente, nem andes com o homem furioso,
Don't make friends with someone who gets upset easily; don't associate with angry people,
25 Para que não aprendas o caminho dele, e te ponhas em armadilhas para tua alma.
in case you learn to be like them and make a mess of your life.
26 Não estejas entre os que se comprometem em acordos com as mãos, [ou] os que ficam por fiadores de dívidas.
Don't shake hands and guarantee someone's debt,
27 Se não tens como pagar, por que razão tirariam tua cama debaixo de ti?
for if you can't pay, why should your bed be taken away from beneath you?
28 Não mudes os limites antigos que teus pais fizeram.
Don't move ancient boundary markers that your forefathers put in place.
29 Viste um homem habilidoso em sua obra? Perante a face dos reis ele será posto; ele não será posto diante de pessoas sem honra.
If you see someone skilled in what they do, they'll work for kings and not for ordinary people.
