Provérbios 17
1 Melhor é um pedaço seco de comida com tranquilidade, do que uma casa cheia de carne com briga.
Better [is] a dry morsel, and rest with it, Than a house full of the sacrifices of strife.
2 O servo prudente dominará o filho causador de vergonha, e receberá parte da herança entre os irmãos.
A wise servant rules over a son causing shame, And he apportions an inheritance in the midst of brothers.
3 O crisol é para a prata, e o forno para o ouro; mas o SENHOR prova os corações.
A refining pot [is] for silver, and a furnace for gold, And the trier of hearts [is] YHWH.
4 O malfeitor presta atenção ao lábio injusto; o mentiroso inclina os ouvidos à língua maligna.
An evildoer is attentive to lips of vanity, Falsehood is giving ear to a mischievous tongue.
5 Quem ridiculariza o pobre insulta o seu Criador; aquele que se alegra da calamidade não ficará impune.
Whoever is mocking at the poor Has reproached his Maker, Whoever is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.
6 A coroa dos idosos [são] os filhos de seus filhos; e a glória dos filhos são seus pais.
Sons’ sons [are] the crown of old men, And the glory of sons [are] their fathers.
7 Não é adequado ao tolo falar com elegância; muito menos para o príncipe falar mentiras.
A lip of excellence is not fitting for a fool, much less a lip of falsehood for a noble.
8 O presente é [como] uma pedra preciosa aos olhos de seus donos; para onde quer que se voltar, [tentará] ter algum proveito.
A stone of grace [is] the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Wherever it turns, it prospers.
9 Quem perdoa a transgressão busca a amizade; mas quem repete o assunto afasta amigos íntimos.
Whoever is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoever is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.
10 A repreensão entra mais profundamente no prudente do que cem açoites no tolo.
Rebuke comes down on the intelligent More than one hundred stripes on a fool.
11 Na verdade quem é mal busca somente a rebeldia; mas o mensageiro cruel será enviado contra ele.
An evil man seeks only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.
12 [É melhor] ao homem encontrar uma ursa roubada [de seus filhotes], do que um tolo em sua loucura.
The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And—not a fool in his folly.
13 Quanto ao que devolve o mal no lugar do bem, o mal nunca se afastará de sua casa.
Whoever is returning evil for good, Evil does not move from his house.
14 Começar uma briga é [como] deixar águas rolarem; por isso, abandona a discussão antes que haja irritação.
The beginning of contention [is] a letting out of waters, And leave the strife before it is meddled with.
15 Quem absolve ao perverso e quem condena ao justo, ambos são abomináveis ao SENHOR.
Whoever is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these [are] an abomination to YHWH.
16 Para que serve o dinheiro na mão do tolo, já que ele não tem interesse em obter sabedoria?
Why [is] this—a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart—there is none?
17 O amigo ama em todo tempo, e o irmão nasce para [ajudar] na angústia.
The friend is loving at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.
18 O homem imprudente assume compromisso, ficando como fiador de seu próximo.
A man lacking heart is striking hands, He becomes a guarantor before his friend.
19 Quem ama a briga, ama a transgressão; quem constrói alta sua porta busca ruína.
Whoever is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoever is making his entrance high is seeking destruction.
20 O perverso de coração nunca encontrará o bem; e quem distorce [as palavras de] sua língua cairá no mal.
The perverse of heart does not find good, And the [one] turned in his tongue falls into evil.
21 Quem gera o louco [cria] sua própria tristeza; e o pai do imprudente não se alegrará.
Whoever is begetting a fool has affliction for it, Indeed, the father of a fool does not rejoice.
22 O coração alegre é um bom remédio, mas o espírito abatido faz os ossos se secarem.
A rejoicing heart does good to the body, And a struck spirit dries the bone.
23 O perverso toma o presente do seio, para perverter os caminhos da justiça.
The wicked takes a bribe from the bosom, To turn aside the paths of judgment.
24 A sabedoria está diante do rosto do prudente; porém os olhos do tolo [estão voltados] para os confins da terra.
The face of the intelligent [is] to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool—at the end of the earth.
25 O filho tolo é tristeza para seu pai, e amargura para aquela que o gerou.
A foolish son [is] a provocation to his father, And bitterness to her bearing him.
26 Também não é bom punir ao justo, nem bater nos príncipes por causa da justiça.
Also, [it] is not good to fine the righteous, To strike nobles for uprightness.
27 Quem entende o conhecimento guarda suas palavras; [e] o homem de bom entendimento [é] de espírito calmo.
One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper [is] a man of understanding.
28 Até o tolo, quando está calado, é considerado como sábio; [e] quem fecha seus lábios, como de bom senso.
Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips [seems] intelligent!
