Números 23

1 E Balaão disse a Balaque: Edifica para mim aqui sete altares, e prepara-me aqui sete bezerros e sete carneiros.

Balaam said to Balak, “Build seven altars here for me and prepare seven bulls and seven rams.”

2 E Balaque fez como lhe disse Balaão: e ofereceram Balaque e Balaão um bezerro e um carneiro em cada altar.

So Balak did as Balaam requested. Then Balak and Balaam offered a bull and a ram on every altar.

3 E Balaão disse a Balaque: Põe-te junto a teu holocausto, e eu irei: talvez o SENHOR me virá ao encontro, e qualquer um coisa que me mostrar, eu a contarei a ti. E assim se foi só.

Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stand at your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me. Whatever he shows me I will tell you.” So he went away to a hilltop with no trees.

4 E veio Deus ao encontro de Balaão, e este lhe disse: Sete altares ordenei, e em cada altar ofereci um bezerro e um carneiro.

While he was on the hilltop, God met him, and Balaam said to him, “I have built seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each one.”

5 E o SENHOR pôs palavra na boca de Balaão, e disse-lhe: Volta a Balaque, e hás de falar assim.

Yahweh put a message in Balaam's mouth and said, “Return to Balak and speak to him.”

6 E voltou a ele, e eis que estava ele junto a seu holocausto, ele e todos os príncipes de Moabe.

So Balaam returned to Balak, who was standing by his burnt offering, and all the leaders of Moab were with him.

7 E ele tomou sua parábola, e disse: De Arã me trouxe Balaque, rei de Moabe, dos montes do oriente: Vem, amaldiçoa para mim a Jacó; E vem, condena a Israel.

Then Balaam began to speak his prophecy and said, “Balak has brought me from Aram, the king of Moab from the eastern mountains. 'Come, curse Jacob for me,' he said. 'Come, defy Israel.'

8 Por que amaldiçoarei eu ao que Deus não amaldiçoou? E por que condenarei ao que o SENHOR não condenou?

How can I curse those whom God has not cursed? How can I oppose those whom Yahweh does not oppose?

9 Porque do cume das penhas o verei, E desde as colinas o olharei: Eis aqui um povo que habitará confiante, e não será contado entre as nações.

For from the top of the rocks I see him; from the hills I look at him. See, there is a people who live alone and do not consider themselves as just an ordinary nation.

10 Quem contará o pó de Jacó, Ou o número da quarta parte de Israel? Morra minha pessoa da morte dos corretos, E meu fim seja como o seu.

Who can count the dust of Jacob or number even only one-fourth of Israel? Let me die the death of a righteous person, and let my life's end be like his!”

11 Então Balaque disse a Balaão: Que me fizeste? Tomei-te para que amaldiçoes a meus inimigos, e eis que proferiste bênçãos.

Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but look, you have blessed them.”

12 E ele respondeu, e disse: Não observarei eu o que o SENHOR puser em minha boca para dizê-lo?

Balaam answered and said, “Should I not be careful to say only what Yahweh puts in my mouth?”

13 E disse Balaque: Rogo-te que venhas comigo a outro lugar desde o qual o vejas; sua extremidade somente verás, que não o verás todo; e desde ali me o amaldiçoarás.

So Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place where you can see them. You will only see the nearest of them, not all of them. There you will curse them for me.”

14 E levou-o ao campo de Zofim, ao cume de Pisga, e edificou sete altares, e ofereceu um bezerro e um carneiro em cada altar.

So he took Balaam into the field of Zophim, to the top of Mount Pisgah, and built seven more altars. He offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.

15 Então ele disse a Balaque: Põe-te aqui junto a teu holocausto, e eu irei a encontrar a Deus ali.

Then Balaam said to Balak, “Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet with Yahweh over there.”

16 E o SENHOR saiu ao encontro de Balaão, e pôs palavra em sua boca, e disse-lhe: Volta a Balaque, e assim dirás.

So Yahweh met Balaam and put a message in his mouth. He said, “Return to Balak and give him my message.”

17 E veio a ele, e eis que ele estava junto a seu holocausto, e com ele os príncipes de Moabe: e disse-lhe Balaque: Que disse o SENHOR?

Balaam returned to him, and look, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the leaders of Moab were with him. Then Balak said to him, “What has Yahweh said?”

18 Então ele tomou sua parábola, e disse: Balaque, levanta-te e ouve; Escuta minhas palavras, filho de Zipor:

Balaam began his prophecy. He said, “Rise up, Balak, and hear. Listen to me, you son of Zippor.

19 Deus não é homem, para que minta; nem filho de homem para que se arrependa: ele disse, e não fará?; Falou, e não o executará?

God is not a man, that he should lie, Or a human being, that he should change his mind. Has he promised anything without doing it? Has he said he would do something without carrying it out?

20 Eis que, eu tomei bênção: E ele abençoou, e não poderei revogá-la.

Look, I have been commanded to bless. God has given a blessing, and I cannot reverse it.

21 Não notou iniquidade em Jacó, nem viu perversidade em Israel: o SENHOR seu Deus é com ele, E júbilo de rei nele.

He has seen no hardship in Jacob or trouble in Israel. Yahweh their God is with them, and shouts for their king are among them.

22 Deus os tirou do Egito; Tem forças como de boi selvagem.

God brought them out of Egypt with strength like that of a wild ox.

23 Porque em Jacó não há agouro, nem adivinhação em Israel: Como agora, será dito de Jacó e de Israel: O que fez Deus!

There is no sorcery that works against Jacob, and no fortune-telling harms Israel. Instead, it must be said about Jacob and Israel, 'Look what God has done!'

24 Eis que o povo, que como leão se levantará, E como leão se erguerá: Não se deitará até que coma a presa, E beba o sangue dos mortos.

Look, the people rise like a lioness, as a lion emerges and attacks. He does not lie down until he eats his victim and drinks the blood of what he has killed.”

25 Então Balaque disse a Balaão: Já que não o amaldiçoas, nem tampouco o abençoes.

Then Balak said to Balaam, “Do not curse them or bless them at all.”

26 E Balaão respondeu, e disse a Balaque: Não te disse que tudo o que o SENHOR me disser, aquilo tenho de fazer?

But Balaam answered and said to Balak, “Did I not tell you that I must say all that Yahweh tells me to say?”

27 E disse Balaque a Balaão: Rogo-te que venhas, te levarei a outro lugar; porventura comparecerá bem a Deus que desde ali me o amaldiçoes.

So Balak replied to Balaam, “Come now, I will take you to another place. Perhaps it will please God for you to curse them there for me.”

28 E Balaque levou a Balaão ao cume de Peor, que está voltado até Jesimom.

So Balak took Balaam to the top of Mount Peor, which looks down on the wilderness.

29 Então Balaão disse a Balaque: Edifica para mim aqui sete altares, e prepara-me aqui sete bezerros e sete carneiros.

Balaam said to Balak, “Build me seven altars here and prepare seven bulls and seven rams.”

30 E Balaque fez como Balaão lhe disse; e ofereceu um bezerro e um carneiro em cada altar.

So Balak did as Balaam had said; he offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.
