Mateus 11
1 Quando Jesus acabou de dar as ordens aos seus doze discípulos, partiu dali para ensinar e para pregar em suas cidades.
And it came to pass, when Jesus ended directing his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 E João, ao ouvir na prisão as obras de Cristo, enviou [-lhe] por seus discípulos,
And John having heard in the prison the works of the Christ, having sent two of his disciples,
3 Perguntando-lhe: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou esperamos outro?
said to him, 'Art thou He who is coming, or for another do we look?'
4 Jesus lhes respondeu: Ide anunciar a João as coisas que ouvis e vedes:
And Jesus answering said to them, 'Having gone, declare to John the things that ye hear and see,
5 Os cegos veem, e os mancos andam; os leprosos são limpos, e os surdos ouvem; os mortos são ressuscitados, e aos pobres é anunciado o Evangelho;
blind receive sight, and lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and deaf hear, dead are raised, and poor have good news proclaimed,
6 E bendito é aquele que não se ofender em mim.
and happy is he who may not be stumbled in me.'
7 Depois que eles se foram, Jesus começou a dizer às multidões acerca de João: Que saístes ao deserto para ver? Uma cana que se move pelo vento?
And as they are going, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, 'What went ye out to the wilderness to view? — a reed shaken by the wind?
8 Mas que saístes para ver? Um homem vestido com [roupas] delicadas? Eis que os que usam roupas delicadas estão nas casas dos reis.
'But what went ye out to see? — a man clothed in soft garments? lo, those wearing the soft things are in the kings' houses.
9 Mas que saístes para ver? Um profeta? Sim, eu vos digo, e muito mais que um profeta;
'But what went ye out to see? — a prophet? yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet,
10 Este é aquele sobre o qual está escrito: ‘Eis que diante de tua face envio o meu mensageiro, que preparará o teu caminho diante de ti.’
for this is he of whom it hath been written, Lo, I do send My messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 Em verdade vos digo que, dentre os nascidos de mulheres, não se levantou [outro] maior que João Batista; porém o menor no Reino dos céus é maior que ele.
Verily I say to you, there hath not risen, among those born of women, a greater than John the Baptist, but he who is least in the reign of the heavens is greater than he.
12 E desde os dias de João Batista até agora, o Reino dos céus está sujeito à violência, e os que usam de violência se apoderam dele.
'And, from the days of John the Baptist till now, the reign of the heavens doth suffer violence, and violent men do take it by force,
13 Porque todos os profetas e a Lei profetizaram até João.
for all the prophets and the law till John did prophesy,
14 E se estais dispostos a aceitar, este é o Elias que havia de vir.
and if ye are willing to receive [it], he is Elijah who was about to come;
15 Quem tem ouvidos, ouça.
he who is having ears to hear — let him hear.
16 Mas com quem compararei esta geração? Semelhante é às crianças que se sentam nas praças, que chamam aos outros,
'And to what shall I liken this generation? it is like little children in market-places, sitting and calling to their comrades,
17 E dizem: ‘Tocamos flauta para vós, mas não dançastes; cantamos lamentações, mas não chorastes.’
and saying, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance, we lamented to you, and ye did not smite the breast.
18 Porque veio João, sem comer nem beber, e dizem: ‘Ele tem demônio.’
'For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a demon;
19 Veio o Filho do homem, que come e bebe, e dizem: ‘Eis aqui um homem comilão e beberrão, amigo de publicanos e pecadores!’ Mas a sabedoria prova-se justa por meio de suas obras.
the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Lo, a man, a glutton, and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax-gatherers and sinners, and wisdom was justified of her children.'
20 Então ele começou a repreender as cidades em que a maioria de seus milagres haviam sido feitos, por não terem se arrependido:
Then began he to reproach the cities in which were done most of his mighty works, because they did not reform.
21 Ai de ti Corazim! Ai de ti Betsaida! Porque se em Tiro e em Sidom tivessem sido feitos os milagres que em vós foram feitos, há muito tempo teriam se arrependido com saco e com cinza!
'Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee, Bethsaida! because, if in Tyre and Sidon had been done the mighty works that were done in you, long ago in sackcloth and ashes they had reformed;
22 Porém eu vos digo que mais tolerável será para Tiro e Sidom, no dia do juízo, que para vós.
but I say to you, to Tyre and Sidon it shall be more tolerable in a day of judgment than for you.
23 E tu, Cafarnaum, estarás tu exaltada até o céu? Ao Xeol serás derrubada! Pois se em Sodoma tivessem sido feitos os milagres que foram feitos em ti, ela teria permanecido até hoje. (Hadēs g86)
'And thou, Capernaum, which unto the heaven wast exalted, unto hades shalt be brought down, because if in Sodom had been done the mighty works that were done in thee, it had remained unto this day; (Hadēs g86)
24 Porém eu vos digo que mais tolerável será para os da região de Sodoma, no dia de juízo, que para ti.
but I say to you, to the land of Sodom it shall be more tolerable in a day of judgment than to thee.'
25 Naquele tempo Jesus pronunciou: Graças te dou, Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, porque escondeste estas coisas aos sábios e entendidos, e as revelaste às crianças.
At that time Jesus answering said, 'I do confess to Thee, Father, Lord of the heavens and of the earth, that thou didst hide these things from wise and understanding ones, and didst reveal them to babes.
26 Sim, Pai, porque assim foi agradável a ti.
Yes, Father, because so it was good pleasure before Thee.
27 Todas as coisas me foram entregues pelo meu Pai; e ninguém conhece o Filho, a não ser o Pai; nem ninguém conhece o Pai, a não ser o Filho, e a quem o Filho [o] quiser revelar.
'All things were delivered to me by my Father, and none doth know the Son, except the Father, nor doth any know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son may wish to reveal [Him].
28 Vinde a mim todos vós que estais cansados e sobrecarregados, e eu vos farei descansar.
'Come unto me, all ye labouring and burdened ones, and I will give you rest,
29 Tomai sobre vós o meu jugo e aprendei de mim, porque sou manso e humilde de coração; e encontrareis descanso para as vossas almas.
take up my yoke upon you, and learn from me, because I am meek and humble in heart, and ye shall find rest to your souls,
30 Pois o meu jugo é suave, e minha carga é leve.
for my yoke [is] easy, and my burden is light.'
