João 4
1 Quando, pois, o Senhor entendeu que os fariseus ouviram que Jesus fazia e batizava mais discípulos que João
Now when the Lord learned that the Pharisees heard he was making and baptizing more disciples than John
2 (ainda que Jesus mesmo não batizava, mas sim seus discípulos),
(although it was not Jesus himself who baptized them, but his disciples),
3 Ele deixou a Judeia, e foi outra vez para a Galileia.
he left Judea and went away to Galilee.
4 E foi necessário passar por Samaria.
But he had to pass through Samaria.
5 Veio pois a uma cidade de Samaria, chamada Sicar, junto à propriedade que Jacó deu a seu filho José.
So he came to a town of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.
6 E ali estava a fonte de Jacó. Então Jesus, cansado do caminho, sentou-se assim junto à fonte; era isto quase à hora sexta.
Jacob's well was there, so Jesus, wearied as he was from the journey, sat by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 Veio uma mulher de Samaria para tirar água; Disse-lhe Jesus: Dá-me de beber.
When a woman from Samaria came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Give me some water to drink.”
8 (Porque seus discípulos haviam ido à cidade para a comprar de comer).
(For his disciples had gone into the city to buy food.)
9 Disse-lhe pois a mulher samaritana: Como, sendo tu judeu, me pedes de beber, que sou mulher samaritana? (Porque os judeus não se comunicam com o samaritanos.)
So the Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that yoʋ, a Jew, ask for water to drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
10 Respondeu Jesus, e disse-lhe: Se tu conhecesses o dom de Deus, e quem é o que te diz: Dá-me de beber, tu lhe pedirias, e ele te daria água viva.
Jesus answered her, “If yoʋ knew the gift of God and who it is that is saying to yoʋ, ‘Give me some water to drink,’ yoʋ would have asked him, and he would have given yoʋ living water.”
11 Disse a mulher: Senhor, tu não tens com que [a] tirar, e o poço é fundo; de onde pois tens a água viva?
The woman said to him, “Sir, yoʋ do not even have a bucket to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then can yoʋ get this living water?
12 És tu maior que nosso pai Jacó, que nos deu o poço? E ele mesmo dele bebeu, e seus filhos, e seu gado?
Are yoʋ greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and livestock?”
13 Jesus respondeu, e disse-lhe: Todo aquele que beber desta água voltará a ter sede;
Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks this water will thirst again,
15 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, dá-me desta água, para que eu não tenha [mais] sede, nem venha aqui para tirar.
The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I will not get thirsty again and have to come here to draw water.”
16 Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai, chama a teu marido, e vem cá.
Jesus said to her, “Go call yoʋr husband and come back here.”
17 A mulher respondeu, e disse: Não tenho marido. Disse-lhe Jesus: Bem disseste: Marido não tenho.
The woman said in response, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “Yoʋ have rightly said, ‘I have no husband,’
18 Porque cinco maridos tiveste, e o que agora tens não é teu marido; isto com verdade disseste.
for yoʋ have had five husbands, and the man yoʋ now have is not yoʋr husband; what yoʋ have said is true.”
19 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, vejo que és profeta.
The woman said to him, “Sir, I see that yoʋ are a prophet.
20 Nossos pais adoraram neste monte, e vós dizeis que em Jerusalém é o lugar onde se deve adorar.
Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 Disse-lhe Jesus: Mulher, crê em mim, que a hora vem, quando nem neste monte, nem em Jerusalém, adorareis ao Pai.
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, an hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22 Vós adorais o que não sabeis; nós adoramos o que sabemos, porque a salvação vem dos judeus.
You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews.
23 Porém a hora vem, e agora é, quando os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão ao Pai em espírito e em verdade; porque também o Pai busca a tais que o adorem.
But an hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such people to worship him.
24 Deus é Espírito, e os que o adoram devem adorá [-lo] em espírito e em verdade.
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 Disse-lhe a mulher: Eu sei que o Messias vem (que se chama o Cristo); quando ele vier, todas as coisas nos anunciará.
The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Disse-lhe Jesus: Eu sou o que contigo falo.
Jesus said to her, “I who speak to yoʋ am he.”
27 E nisto vieram seus discípulos; e maravilharam-se de que falasse com uma mulher; mas ninguém [lhe] disse: Que perguntas? ou, O que falas com ela?
Just then his disciples came back, and they were amazed that he was speaking with a woman. However, no one said, “What do yoʋ want?” or, “Why are yoʋ speaking with her?”
28 Deixou, pois, a mulher seu vaso de água, e foi à cidade, e disse ao povo:
Then the woman left her water jar, went into the town, and said to the people,
29 Vinde, vede um homem que me disse tudo quanto tenho feito; por acaso não é este o Cristo?
“Come see a man who told me everything I have ever done. Could this be the Christ?”
30 Saíram, pois, da cidade, e vieram a ele.
So they left the town and began coming to him.
31 E enquanto isso, os discípulos lhe pediam, dizendo: Rabi, come.
In the meantime the disciples were urging him, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 Porém ele lhes disse: Uma comida tenho que comer, que vós não sabeis.
But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
33 Diziam, pois, os discípulos uns aos outros: Por acaso alguém lhe trouxe de comer?
So the disciples said to one another, “Could someone have brought him something to eat?”
34 Disse-lhes Jesus: Minha comida é fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou, e cumprir sua obra.
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work.
35 Não dizeis vós, que ainda há quatro meses até que venha a ceifa? Eis que vos digo: Levantai vossos olhos, e vede as terras; porque já estão brancas para a ceifa.
Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? I tell you, lift up your eyes and see that the fields are already ripe for harvest.
36 E o que ceifa, recebe recompensa, e junta fruto para vida eterna; para que ambos se alegrem, tanto o que semeia, quanto o que ceifa. (aiōnios g166)
He who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 Porque nisto é verdadeiro o ditado, que: Um é o que semeia, e outro o que ceifa.
For in this the true saying is verified: ‘One sows and another reaps.’
38 Eu vos enviei para ceifar onde vós não trabalhastes; outros trabalharam, e vós entrastes no trabalho deles.
I sent you to reap what you have not labored for; others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”
39 E muitos dos samaritanos daquela cidade creram nele pela palavra da mulher, que testemunhava, dizendo: Ele me disse tudo quanto eu tenho feito.
Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in Jesus because of the woman's testimony: “He told me everything I have ever done.”
40 Vindo pois os samaritanos a ele, suplicaram-lhe que ficasse com eles; e ele ficou ali dois dias.
So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there for two days.
41 E creram ainda muitos mais pela palavra dele.
And many more believed because of his word.
42 E diziam à mulher: Já não cremos por teu dito; porque nós mesmos temos [o] ouvido, e sabemos que verdadeiramente este é o Cristo, o Salvador do mundo.
So they said to the woman, “It is no longer because of yoʋr report that we believe, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this is truly the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
43 E depois de dois dias partiu dali, e foi-se para a Galileia.
After two days, he departed from there and went to Galilee.
44 Porque o mesmo Jesus testemunhou que não tem o Profeta honra em sua própria terra.
(For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own hometown.)
45 Vindo pois para a Galileia, os Galileus o receberam, havendo visto todas as coisas que fizera em Jerusalém no [dia] da festa, porque também eles foram ao [dia] da festa.
When he came to Galilee, the Galileans received him because they had seen all that he had done in Jerusalem at the feast, for they also had gone to the feast.
46 Veio pois Jesus outra vez a Caná da Galileia, onde da água fizera vinho. E estava ali um nobre, cujo filho estava enfermo em Cafarnaum.
Once more Jesus went to Cana of Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. Now there was a certain royal official whose son was sick in Capernaum.
47 Ouvindo este que Jesus vinha da Judeia para a Galileia, foi ter com ele, e suplicava-lhe que descesse, e curasse a seu filho, porque já estava à morte.
When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him to come down and heal his son, for his son was about to die.
48 Disse-lhe pois Jesus: Se não virdes sinais e milagres não crereis.
Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will certainly not believe.”
49 O nobre lhe disse: Senhor, desce, antes que meu filho morra.
The royal official said to him, “Sir, come down before my boy dies.”
50 Disse-lhe Jesus: Vai, teu filho vive. E o homem creu na palavra que Jesus lhe disse, e se foi.
Jesus said to him, “Go; yoʋr son will live.” And the man believed what Jesus said to him and went on his way.
51 E [estando] ele já descendo, seus servos lhe saíram ao encontro, e [lhe] anunciaram, dizendo: Teu filho vive.
As he was going back down to his house, his servants met him and told him, “Yoʋr son is alive.”
52 Perguntou-lhes pois, a que hora se achara melhor; e disseram-lhe: Ontem às sete horas a febre o deixou.
So he asked them the hour when he began to get better. They said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”
53 Entendeu pois o pai, que aquela era a mesma hora em que Jesus lhe disse: Teu filho vive. E creu nele, e toda sua casa.
Then the father realized that this was the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Yoʋr son will live.” So he believed, along with his entire household.
54 Este segundo sinal Jesus voltou a fazer, quando ele veio d [a] Judeia a Galileia.
This was the second sign that Jesus did after coming from Judea to Galilee.
