João 13
1 E antes da festa da páscoa, sabendo Jesus que sua hora já era vinda, para que deste mundo passasse para o Pai, havendo amado aos seus, que estavam no mundo, até o fim os amou.
Before the Passover Festival began, Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave the world and go to the Father. He had loved those who were his own in the world, and he loved them to the last.
2 E terminada a ceia, o diabo já havia metido no coração de Judas de Simão Iscariotes, que o traísse.
The devil had already put the thought of betraying Jesus into the mind of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon;
3 Sabendo Jesus que o Pai já tinha lhe dado todas as coisas nas mãos, e que ele era vindo de Deus, e para Deus ele iria,
and at supper, Jesus – although knowing that the Father had put everything into his hands, and that he had come from God, and was to return to God –
4 Levantou-se da ceia, e tirou as roupas, e tomando uma toalha, envolveu- [a] em si;
rose from his place, and, taking off his upper garments, tied a towel round his waist.
5 Depois pôs água em uma bacia, e começou a lavar os pés dos discípulos, e limpá-los com a toalha com que estava envolto.
He then poured some water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel which was tied round him.
6 Veio, pois, a Simão Pedro; e ele lhe disse: Senhor, tu a mim lavas meus pés?
When he came to Simon Peter, Peter said, ‘You, Master! Are you going to wash my feet?’
7 Respondeu Jesus, e disse-lhe: O que eu faço tu não o sabes agora; mas depois o entenderás.
‘You do not understand now what I am doing,’ replied Jesus, ‘but you will learn by and by.’
8 Disse-lhe Pedro: Nunca lavarás meus pés. Respondeu-lhe então Jesus: Se eu não te lavar, não tens parte comigo. (aiōn g165)
‘You will never wash my feet!’ exclaimed Peter. ‘Unless I wash you,’ answered Jesus, ‘you have nothing in common with me.’ (aiōn g165)
9 Disse-lhe Simão Pedro: Senhor, [lava] não só meus pés, mas também as mãos e a cabeça.
‘Then, Master, not my feet only,’ exclaimed Simon Peter, ‘but also my hands and my head.’
10 Disse-lhe Jesus: Aquele que está lavado não necessita lavar, a não ser os pés, mas está todo limpo. E vós limpos estais, porém não todos.
‘He who has bathed,’ replied Jesus, ‘has no need to wash, unless it be his feet, but is altogether clean; and you,’ he said to the disciples, ‘are clean, yet not all of you.’
11 Porque ele bem sabia quem o trairia; por isso disse: Nem todos estais limpos.
For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said “You are not all clean.”
12 Quando então, tendo eles lavado os pés, e tomado suas roupas, voltou a se sentar [à mesa], e disse-lhes: Entendeis o que vos tenho feito?
When he had washed their feet, and had put on his upper garments and taken his place, he spoke to them again. ‘Do you understand what I have been doing to you?’ he asked.
13 Vós me chamais Mestre, e Senhor, e bem dizeis; que eu o sou;
‘You yourselves call me “the teacher” and “the Master”, and you are right, for I am both.
14 Pois se eu, o Senhor, e o Mestre, tenho lavado vossos pés, também vós deveis lavar vossos pés uns aos outros.
If I, then – “the Master” and “the teacher” – have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet;
15 Porque vos tenho dado exemplo, para que como eu vos tenho feito, façais vós também.
for I have given you an example, so that you may do just as I have done to you.
16 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo, [que] o servo não é maior que seu senhor; nem enviado maior que aquele que o enviou.
In truth I tell you, a servant is not greater than their master, neither is a messenger greater than the one who sends them.
17 Se sabeis estas coisas, sereis bem-aventurados se as fizerdes.
Now that you know these things, happy are you if you do them.
18 Não digo de todos; bem sei eu aos que tenho escolhido; mas para que se cumpra a Escritura, [que diz]: O que come comigo, levantou contra mim seu calcanhar.
I am not speaking about all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but this is in fulfilment of the words of scripture – “He that is eating my bread has lifted his heel against me.”
19 Desde agora, antes que se faça, digo-o a vós, para que, quando se fizer, creiais que eu sou.
For the future I will tell you of things before they take place, so that, when they take place, you may believe that I am what I am.
20 Em verdade, em verdade vos digo, [que] se alguém receber ao [que] eu enviar, a mim me recebe; e quem a mim me receber, recebe a aquele que me enviou.
In truth I tell you, the one who receives anyone that I send receives me; and the person who receives me receives him who sent me.’
21 Havendo Jesus dito isto, perturbou-se em espírito, e testemunhou, e disse: Em verdade, em verdade vos digo, que um de vós me trairá.
After saying this, Jesus was much troubled, and said solemnly, ‘In truth I tell you that it is one of you who will betray me.’
22 Pelo que os discípulos se olhavam uns para os outros, duvidando de quem ele dizia.
The disciples looked at one another, wondering whom he meant.
23 E um dos discípulos, a quem Jesus amava, estava sentado [à mesa encostado] no seio de Jesus.
Next to Jesus, in the place on his right hand, was one of his disciples, whom he loved.
24 A este pois fez sinal Simão Pedro, que perguntasse quem era aquele de quem ele dizia.
So Simon Peter made signs to that disciple, and whispered, ‘Tell me who it is that he means.’
25 E declinando-se ele ao peito de Jesus, disse-lhe: Senhor, quem é?
Being in this position, that disciple leant back on Jesus’ shoulder, and asked him, ‘Who is it, Master?’
26 Respondeu Jesus: Aquele a quem eu der o pedaço molhado de pão. E molhando o pedaço de pão, deu-o a Judas de Simão Iscariotes.
‘It is the one,’ answered Jesus, ‘to whom I will give a piece of bread after dipping it in the dish.’ And, when Jesus had dipped the bread, he took it and gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot;
27 E após o pedaço de pão, entrou nele Satanás. Disse-lhe pois Jesus: O que fazes, faze-o depressa.
and it was then, after he had received it, that Satan took possession of him. So Jesus said to him, ‘Do at once what you are going to do.’
28 E nenhum dos que estavam sentados [à mesa] entendeu para que ele lhe dissera.
But no one at the table understood why he said this to Judas.
29 Pois alguns pensavam que, porque Judas tinha a bolsa, Jesus havia lhe dito: Compra o que para o que nos é necessário para a festa; ou que alguma coisa desse aos pobres.
Some thought that, as Judas kept the purse, Jesus meant that he was to buy some things needed for the Festival, or to give something to the poor.
30 Havendo ele pois tomado o pedaço de pão, logo saiu. E já era noite.
After taking the piece of bread, Judas went out immediately; and it was night.
31 Tendo, pois, ele saído, disse Jesus: Agora o Filho do homem é glorificado, e Deus é glorificado nele.
When Judas had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man has been exalted, and God has been exalted through him;
32 Se Deus nele é glorificado, também Deus o glorificará em si mesmo, e logo o glorificará.
and God will exalt him with himself – yes, he will exalt him forthwith.
33 Filhinhos, ainda um pouco estou convosco. Vós me buscareis; e tal como eu aos Judeus: Para onde eu vou, vós não podeis vir; assim também o digo a vós agora.
My children, I am to be with you but a little while longer. You will look for me; and what I said to the people – “You cannot come where I am going” – I now say to you.
34 Um novo mandamento vos dou: que vos ameis uns aos outros; tal como eu vos amei, também ameis vós uns aos outros.
I give you a new commandment – love one another; love one another as I have loved you.
35 Nisto todos conhecerão que sois meus discípulos: se vós tiverdes amor uns aos outros.
It is by this that everyone will recognise you as my disciples – by your loving one another.’
36 Disse-lhe Simão Pedro: Senhor, para onde vais? Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Para onde eu vou tu não podes me seguir agora; porém depois me seguirás.
‘Where are you going, Master?’ asked Peter. ‘I am going where you cannot now follow me,’ answered Jesus, ‘but you will follow me later.’
37 Disse-lhe Pedro: Senhor, por que agora não posso te seguir? Por ti eu darei minha vida.
‘Why cannot I follow you now, Master?’ asked Peter. ‘I will lay down my life for you.’
38 Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Por mim darás tua vida? Em verdade, em verdade te digo, que o galo não cantará, até que três vezes me negues.
‘Will you lay down your life for me?’ replied Jesus. ‘In truth I tell you, the cock will not crow until you have disowned me three times.
