Jó 9
1 Mas Jó respondeu, dizendo:
Then Job answered and said,
2 Na verdade sei que é assim; mas como pode o ser humano ser justo diante de Deus?
I know [it to be] so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
3 Ainda se quisesse disputar com ele, não conseguiria lhe responder uma coisa sequer em mil.
If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
4 Ele é sábio de coração, e poderoso em forças. Quem se endureceu contra ele, e teve paz?
[He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened [himself] against him, and hath prospered?
5 Ele transporta as montanhas sem que o saibam; e as transtorna em seu furor.
Who removeth the mountains, and they know not: who overturneth them in his anger.
6 Ele remove a terra de seu lugar, e faz suas colunas tremerem.
Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and its pillars tremble.
7 Ele dá ordem ao sol, e ele não brilha; e sela as estrelas.
Who commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
8 Ele é o que sozinho estende os céus, e anda sobre as alturas do mar.
Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
9 Ele é o que fez a Usra, o Órion, as Plêiades, e as constelações do sul.
Who maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
10 Ele é o que faz coisas grandes e incompreensíveis, e inúmeras maravilhas.
Who doeth great things past finding out; yes, and wonders without number.
11 Eis que ele passa diante de mim, sem que eu não o veja; ele passará diante de mim, sem que eu saiba.
Lo, he goeth by me, and I see [him] not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
12 Eis que, quando ele toma, quem pode lhe impedir? Quem poderá lhe dizer: O que estás fazendo?
Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say to him, What doest thou?
13 Deus não reverterá sua ira, e debaixo dele se encurvam os assistentes de Raabe.
[If] God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
14 Como poderia eu lhe responder, e escolher minhas palavras contra ele?
How much less shall I answer him, [and] choose out my words [to reason] with him?
15 A ele, ainda que eu fosse justo, não lhe responderia; a meu juiz pediria misericórdia.
Whom, though I were righteous, [yet] would I not answer, [but] I would make supplication to my judge.
16 Ainda que eu lhe chamasse, e ele respondesse, mesmo assim não creria que ele tivesse dado ouvidos à minha voz.
If I had called, and he had answered me; [yet] I would not believe that he had hearkened to my voice.
17 Pois ele tem me quebrantado com tempestade, e multiplicado minhas feridas sem causa.
For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.
18 Ele não me permite respirar; em vez disso, me farta de amarguras.
He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
19 Quanto às forças, eis que ele é forte; e quanto ao juízo, [ele diria]: Quem me convocará?
If [I speak] of strength, lo, [he is] strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time [to plead]?
20 Ainda que eu seja justo, minha boca me condenaria; se eu fosse inocente, então ela me declararia perverso.
If I justify myself, my own mouth will condemn me: [if I say], I [am] perfect, that also will prove me perverse.
21 Mesmo se eu for inocente, não estimo minha alma; desprezo minha vida.
[Though] I [were] perfect, [yet] would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
22 É tudo a mesma coisa; por isso digo: ele consome ao inocente e ao perverso.
This [is] one [thing], therefore I said [it], he destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
23 Quando o açoite mata de repente, ele ri do desespero dos inocentes.
If the scourge shall slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
24 A terra está entregue nas mãos dos perversos. Ele cobre o rosto de seus juízes. Se não é ele, então quem é?
The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of its judges; if not, where, [and] who [is] he?
25 Meus dias foram mais rápidos que um homem que corre; fugiram, e não viram o bem.
Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
26 Passaram como barcos de papiro, como a águia que se lança à comida.
They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle [that] hasteth to the prey.
27 Se disser: Esquecerei minha queixa, mudarei o aspecto do meu rosto, e sorrirei,
If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort [myself]:
28 [Ainda] teria pavor de todas as minhas dores; [pois] sei que não me terás por inocente.
I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
29 Se eu já estou condenado, então para que eu sofreria em vão?
[If] I am wicked, why then do I labor in vain?
30 Ainda que me lave com água de neve, e limpe minhas mãos com sabão,
If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
31 Então me submergirias no fosso, e minhas próprias vestes me abominariam.
Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, and my own clothes shall abhor me.
32 Pois ele não é homem como eu, para que eu lhe responda, e venhamos juntamente a juízo.
For [he is] not a man, as I [am], [that] I should answer him, [and] we should come together in judgment.
33 Não há entre nós árbitro que ponha sua mão sobre nós ambos,
Neither is there any judge between us, [that] might lay his hand upon us both.
34 Tire de sobre mim sua vara, e seu terror não me espante.
Let him take away his rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me:
35 [Então] eu falaria, e não teria medo dele. Pois não está sendo assim comigo.
[Then] would I speak, and not fear him; but [it is] not so with me.
