1 Poderás tu pescar ao leviatã com anzol, ou abaixar sua língua com uma corda?
Canst thou draw out the leviathan with a hook, or canst thou tie his tongue with a cord?
2 Podes pôr um anzol em seu nariz, ou com um espinho furar sua queixada?
Canst thou put a ring in his nose, or bore through his jaw with a buckle?
3 Fará ele súplicas a ti, [ou] falará contigo suavemente?
Will he make many supplications to thee, or speak soft words to thee?
4 Fará ele pacto contigo, para que tu o tomes por escravo perpétuo?
Will he make a covenant with thee, and wilt thou take him to be a servant for ever?
5 Brincarás tu com ele como com um passarinho, ou o atarás para tuas meninas?
Shalt thou play with him as with a bird, or tie him up for thy handmaids?
6 Os companheiros farão banquete dele? Repartirão dele entre os mercadores?
Shall friends cut him in pieces, shall merchants divide him?
7 Poderás tu encher sua pele de espetos, ou sua cabeça com arpões de pescadores?
Wilt thou fill nets with his skin, and the cabins of fishes with his head?
8 Põe tua mão sobre ele; te lembrarás da batalha, e nunca mais voltarás a fazer.
Lay thy hand upon him: remember the battle, and speak no more.
9 Eis que a esperança de alguém [de vencê-lo] falhará; pois, apenas ao vê-lo será derrubado.
Behold his hope shall fail him, and in the sight of all he shall be cast down.
10 Ninguém há [tão] ousado que o desperte; quem pois, [ousa] se opor a mim?
I will not stir him up, like one that is cruel: for who can resist my countenance?
11 Quem me deu primeiro, para que eu [o] recompense? Tudo o que há debaixo dos céus é meu.
Who hath given me before that I should repay him? All things that are under heaven are mine.
12 Eu não me calarei a respeito de seus membros, nem de [suas] forças, e da graça de sua estatura.
I will not spare him, nor his mighty words, and framed to make supplication.
13 Quem descobrirá sua vestimenta superficial? Quem poderá penetrar sua couraça dupla?
Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can go into the midst of his mouth?
14 Quem poderia abrir as portas de seu rosto? Ao redor de seus dentes há espanto.
Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
15 Seus fortes escudos são excelentes; cada um fechado, como um selo apertado.
His body is like molten shields, shut close up with scales pressing upon one another.
16 Um está tão próximo do outro, que vento não pode entrar entre eles.
One is joined to another, and not so much as any air can come between them:
17 Estão grudados uns aos outros; estão tão travados entre si, que não se podem separar.
They stick one to another and they hold one another fast, and shall not be separated.
18 Cada um de seus roncos faz resplandecer a luz, e seus olhos são como os cílios do amanhecer.
His sneezing is like the shining of fire, and his eyes like the eyelids of the morning.
19 De sua boca saem tochas, faíscas de fogo saltam dela.
Out of his mouth go forth lamps, like torches of lighted fire.
20 De suas narinas sai fumaça, como de uma panela fervente ou de um caldeirão.
Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, like that of a pot heated and boiling.
21 Seu fôlego acende carvões, e de sua boca sai chama.
His breath kindleth coals, and a flame cometh forth out of his mouth.
22 A força habita em seu pescoço; diante dele salta-se de medo.
In his neck strength shall dwell, and want goeth before his face.
23 As dobras de sua carne estão apegadas [entre si]; cada uma está firme nele, e não podem ser movidas.
The members of his flesh cleave one to another: he shall send lightnings against him, and they shall not be carried to another place.
24 Seu coração é rígido como uma pedra, rígido como a pedra de baixo de um moinho.
His heart shall be as hard as a stone, and as firm as a smith’s anvil.
25 Quando ele se levanta, os fortes tremem; por [seus] abalos se recuam.
When he shall raise him up, the angels shall fear, and being affrighted shall purify themselves.
26 Se alguém lhe tocar com a espada, não poderá prevalecer; nem arremessar dardo, ou lança.
When a sword shall lay at him, it shall not be able to hold, nor a spear, nor a breastplate.
27 Ele considera o ferro como palha, e o aço como madeira podre.
For he shall esteem iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
28 A flecha não o faz fugir; as pedras de funda são para ele como sobras de cascas.
The archer shall not put him to flight, the stones of the sling are to him like stubble.
29 Considera toda arma como sobras de cascas, e zomba do mover da lança.
As stubble will he esteem the hammer, and he will laugh him to scorn who shaketh the spear.
30 Por debaixo de si tem conchas pontiagudas; ele esmaga com suas pontas na lama.
The beams of the sun shall be under him, and he shall strew gold under him like mire.
31 Ele faz ferver as profundezas como a uma panela, e faz do mar como um pote de unguento.
He shall make the deep sea to boil like a pot, and shall make it as when ointments boil.
32 Ele faz brilhar o caminho atrás de si; faz parecer ao abismo com cabelos grisalhos.
A path shall shine after him, he shall esteem the deep as growing old.
33 Não há sobre a terra algo que se possa comparar a ele. Ele foi feito para não temer.
There is no power upon earth that can be compared with him who was made to fear no one.
34 Ele vê tudo que é alto; ele é rei sobre todos os filhos dos animais soberbos.
He beholdeth every high thing, he is king over all the children of pride.
