Jó 28
1 Certamente há minas para a prata, e o ouro lugar onde o derretem.
“Surely there is a source for silver, And a place for the gold they refine;
2 O ferro é tirado do solo, e da pedra se funde o cobre.
Iron is taken from the dust, And bronze [from] the firm stone.
3 O [homem] põe fim às trevas, e investiga em toda extremidade, as pedras que estão na escuridão e nas mais sombrias trevas.
He has set an end to darkness, And he is searching to all perfection, A stone of darkness and death-shade.
4 Abre um poço onde não há morador, lugares esquecidos por quem passa a pé; pendurados longe da humanidade, vão de um lado para o outro.
A stream has broken out from a sojourner, Those forgotten of the foot, They were low, they wandered from man.
5 Da terra o pão procede, e por debaixo ela é transformada como que pelo fogo.
The earth! Bread comes forth from it, And its under-part is turned like fire.
6 Suas pedras são o lugar da safira, e contém pó de ouro.
A place of the sapphire [are] its stones, And it has dust of gold.
7 A ave de rapina não conhece essa vereda; os olhos do falcão não a viram.
A path—a ravenous bird has not known it, Nor has an eye of the falcon scorched it,
8 Os filhotes de animais ferozes nunca a pisaram, nem o feroz leão passou por ela.
Nor have the sons of pride trodden it, The fierce lion has not passed over it.
9 [O homem] põe sua mão no rochedo, e revolve os montes desde a raiz.
He sent forth his hand against the flint, He overturned mountains from the root.
10 Cortou canais pelas rochas, e seus olhos veem tudo o que é precioso.
Among rocks, he has cleaved brooks, And his eye has seen every precious thing.
11 Ele tapa os rios desde suas nascentes, e faz o oculto sair para a luz.
He has bound overflowing rivers, And the hidden thing brings out [to] light.
12 Porém onde se achará a sabedoria? E onde está o lugar da inteligência?
And the wisdom—from where is it found? And where [is] this, the place of understanding?
13 O ser humano não conhece o valor dela, nem ela é achada na terra dos viventes.
Man has not known its arrangement, Nor is it found in the land of the living.
14 O abismo diz: Não está em mim; E o mar diz: Nem comigo.
The deep has said, It [is] not in me, And the sea has said, It is not with me.
15 Nem por ouro fino se pode comprar, nem se pesar em troca de prata.
Gold is not given for it, Nor is silver weighed—its price.
16 Não pode ser avaliada com ouro de Ofir, nem com ônix precioso, nem com safira.
It is not valued with pure gold of Ophir, With precious onyx and sapphire,
17 Não se pode comparar com ela o ouro, nem o cristal; nem se pode trocar por joia de ouro fino.
Gold and crystal do not equal it, Nor [is] its exchange a vessel of fine gold.
18 De coral nem de quartzo não se fará menção; porque o preço da sabedoria é melhor que o de rubis.
Corals and pearl are not remembered, The acquisition of wisdom [is] above rubies.
19 O topázio de Cuxe não se pode comparar com ela; nem pode ser avaliada com o puro ouro fino.
The topaz of Cush does not equal it, It is not valued with pure gold.
20 De onde, pois, vem a sabedoria? E onde está o lugar da inteligência?
And the wisdom—from where does it come? And where [is] this, the place of understanding?
21 Porque encoberta está aos olhos de todo vivente, e é oculta a toda ave do céu.
It has been hid from the eyes of all living. And from the bird of the heavens It has been hidden.
22 O perdição e a morte dizem: Com nossos ouvidos ouvimos sua fama.
Destruction and death have said: With our ears we have heard its fame.
23 Deus entende o caminho dela, e ele conhece seu lugar.
God has understood its way, And He has known its place.
24 Porque ele enxerga até os confins da terra, e vê tudo [o que há] debaixo de céus.
For He looks to the ends of the earth, He sees under the whole heavens,
25 Quando ele deu peso ao vento, e estabeleceu medida para as águas;
To make a weight for the wind, And He meted out the waters in measure.
26 Quando ele fez lei para a chuva, e caminho para o relâmpago dos trovões,
In His making for the rain a limit, And a way for the brightness of the voices,
27 Então ele a viu, e relatou; preparou-a, e também a examinou.
Then He has seen and declares it, He has prepared it, and also searched it out,
28 E disse ao homem: Eis que o temor ao Senhor é a sabedoria, e o desviar-se do mal [é] a inteligência.
And He says to man: Behold, fear of the Lord, that [is] wisdom, And to turn from evil [is] understanding.”
