Jeremias 5
1 Correi pelas ruas de Jerusalém, e olhai agora, e informai-vos, e buscai em suas praças, [para ver] se achais algum homem, se há alguém que faça juízo, que busque a verdade; e eu a perdoarei.
Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its broad places, if ye can find a man, if there is [any] that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
2 E ainda que digam: Vive o SENHOR; contudo juram falsamente.
And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
3 Ah SENHOR, por acaso teus olhos não [enxergam] a verdade? Tu os feriste, mas não lhes doeu; tu os consumiste, mas não aceitaram receber correção; endureceram seus rostos mais que rocha; não quiseram se converter.
O LORD, [are] not thy eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, [but] they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
4 Eu porém disse: Certamente eles são pobres; enlouqueceram, pois não conhecem o caminho do SENHOR, o juízo de seu Deus.
Therefore I said, Surely these [are] poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, [nor] the judgment of their God.
5 Irei aos grandes, e falarei com eles; porque eles conhecem o caminho do SENHOR, o juízo de seu Deus. Porém eles também quebraram o jugo; [também] romperam as amarras.
I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, [and] the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, [and] burst the bonds.
6 Por isso um leão do bosque os ferirá; um lobo do deserto os destruirá; um leopardo vigiará sobre suas cidades; qualquer um que delas sair, será despedaçado; pois suas transgressões se multiplicaram, foram numerosas suas infidelidades.
Wherefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, [and] a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, [and] their backslidings are increased.
7 Como te perdoaria por isto? Teus filhos me deixaram, e juram pelo que não é Deus. Eu os saciei, porém eles adulteraram, e se aglomeraram em casa de prostitutas.
How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by [them that are] no gods: when I had fed them to the full, then they committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
8 [Como] cavalos bem alimentados, levantam-se pela manhã; cada um relinchava à mulher de seu próximo.
They were [as] fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbor's wife.
9 Não teria eu de fazer visitação sobre isto? diz o SENHOR. De uma nação como esta não vingaria minha alma?
Shall I not visit for these [things]? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
10 Subi seus muros, e destruí; mas não destruais por completo. Tirai os ramos de seus muros, porque não pertencem ao SENHOR.
Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they [are] not the LORD'S.
11 Pois a casa de Israel e a casa de Judá traíram enganosamente contra mim, diz o SENHOR.
For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
12 Negaram ao SENHOR, e disseram: Não é ele; não virá mal sobre nós; não veremos espada, nem fome;
They have belied the LORD, and said, [It is] not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
13 e até os profetas serão [como] o vento, pois a palavra não está neles; assim acontecerá a eles mesmos.
And the prophets shall become wind, and the word [is] not in them: thus shall it be done to them.
14 Portanto assim diz o SENHOR Deus dos exércitos: Visto que falastes esta palavra, eis que tornarei minhas palavras em tua boca em fogo, e a este povo será lenha; e [o fogo] os consumirá.
Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, Behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
15 Eis que trarei sobre vós uma nação de longe, ó casa de Israel, diz o SENHOR; uma nação forte, nação bastante antiga; uma nação cuja língua não saberás, e o que falarem não entenderás.
Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it [is] a mighty nation, it [is] an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
16 Sua aljava é como uma sepultura aberta; todos eles são poderosos.
Their quiver [is] as an open sepulcher, they [are] all mighty men.
17 E comerão tua colheita e teu pão, que teus filhos e tuas filhas comeriam; comerão tuas ovelhas e tuas vacas, comerão tuas vides e tuas figueiras; e derrubarão por meio da espada tuas cidades fortes em que confias.
And they shall eat up thy harvest, and thy bread, [which] thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees: they shall impoverish with the sword thy fortified cities, in which thou hast trusted.
18 Porém naqueles dias, diz o SENHOR, não vos acabarei por completo.
Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
19 E será que quando disserdes: Por que o SENHOR nosso Deus fez conosco todas estas coisas? Então lhes dirás: Assim como vós me abandonastes e servistes a deuses estrangeiros em vossa terra, assim também servireis a estrangeiros numa terra que não é vossa.
And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Why doeth the LORD our God all these [things] to us? then shalt thou answer them, As ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land [that is] not yours.
20 Anunciai isto na casa de Jacó, e fazei com que isto se ouça em Judá, dizendo:
Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
21 Ouvi agora isto, ó povo tolo e insensato, que têm olhos e não veem, que têm ouvidos e não ouvem:
Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and see not; who have ears, and hear not:
22 Por acaso não me temereis? diz o SENHOR; Não vos assombrareis perante mim, que pus a areia por limite ao mar por ordenança eterna, a qual não passará? Ainda que se levantarem suas ondas, mas elas não prevalecerão; ainda que bramem, não a passarão.
Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand [for] the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though its waves toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
23 Porém este povo tem coração teimoso e rebelde; viraram-se, e se foram.
But this people have a revolting and a rebellious heart; they have revolted and gone.
24 Nem sequer dizem em seu coração: Temamos agora ao SENHOR nosso Deus, que dá chuva temporã e tardia em seu tempo; os tempos estabelecidos da ceifa ele nos guarda.
Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in its season: he reserveth to us the appointed weeks of harvest.
25 Vossas perversidades têm desviado estas coisas; e vossos pecados afastaram de vós o bem.
Your iniquities have turned away these [things], and your sins have withheld good [things] from you.
26 Porque foram achados perversos em meu povo; eles espiavam como quem põe laços; puseram armadilhas para prenderem homens.
For among my people are found wicked [men]: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.
27 Como uma gaiola cheia de pássaros, assim estão suas casas cheias de engano: assim eles se fizeram grandes e ricos.
As a cage is full of birds, so [are] their houses full of deceit: therefore they have become great, and have grown rich.
28 Eles se engordaram e ficaram lustrosos, e ultrapassaram os limites das obras do mal; não julgam causa nenhuma, [nem sequer] a causa do órfão; porém fizeram-se prósperos; nem julgam o direito dos necessitados.
They have become fat, they shine: yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
29 Por acaso eu não [os] puniria por causa disto? Diz o SENHOR; e de tal nação não se vingará minha alma?
Shall I not visit for these [things]? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
30 Uma coisa espantosa e horrível está sendo feita na terra:
A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
31 Os profetas profetizam falsamente, e os sacerdotes exercem liderança por suas próprias mãos; e meu povo assim o quer. Mas o que fareis quando isto chegar ao fim?
The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love [to have it] so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
