Jeremias 42
1 Então chegaram todos os comandantes dos exércitos, e Joanã filho de Careá, e Jezanias filho de Hosaías, e todo o povo desde o menor até o maior,
Then drew near all the captains of the forces, and Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, —and all the people from the least even unto the greatest;
2 E disseram ao profeta Jeremias: Chegue, por favor, nossa suplicação diante de ti, e roga por nós ao SENHOR teu Deus, por todo este restante; pois de muitos restamos [apenas] uns poucos, como teus olhos nos veem,
and said unto Jeremiah the prophet—Let our supplication we beseech thee fall prostrate before thee, and pray thou in our behalf unto Yahweh thy God, in behalf of all this remnant, —for we are left a few out of many, just as thine own eyes do behold us:
3 Para que o SENHOR teu Deus nos ensine caminho por onde devemos andar, e o que temos de fazer.
that Yahweh thy God may tell us the way wherein we should walk, —and the thing that we should do.
4 E Jeremias profeta lhes disse: Eu ouvi. Eis que orarei ao SENHOR vosso Deus, conforme vossas palavras; e será que toda palavra que o SENHOR vos responder, eu vos anunciarei; não vos esconderei palavra alguma.
And Jeremiah the prophet, said unto them, I have heard; behold me! praying unto Yahweh your God according to your words, —and it shall come to pass that the whole thing that Yahweh shall answer you, I will tell you, I will keep back from you, nothing.
5 Então eles disseram a Jeremias: O SENHOR seja entre nós testemunha da verdade e da fidelidade, se não fizermos conforme a toda palavra com que o SENHOR teu Deus te enviar a nós.
They, therefore said unto Jeremiah, Yahweh be against us, as a witness true and faithful, —if according to all the word which Yahweh thy God shall send thee unto us, so we do not perform:
6 Seja bem ou seja mal, obedeceremos à voz do SENHOR nosso Deus, ao qual te enviamos; para que, obedecendo à voz do SENHOR nosso Deus, tenhamos bem.
whether for good or for ill, unto the voice of Yahweh our God for which we are sending thee unto him, will we hearken, —to the end it may be well with us, because we will hearken unto the voice of Yahweh our God.
7 E aconteceu que ao fim de dez dias veio a palavra do SENHOR a Jeremias.
And it came to pass at the end of ten days, that the word of Yahweh came unto Jeremiah.
8 Então ele chamou a Joanã filho de Careá, e a todos os comandantes dos exércitos que com ele estavam, e a todo o povo desde o menor até o maior;
Then called he for Johanan son of Kareah, and for all the princes of the forces who were with him—and for all the people from the least even unto the greatest;
9 E disse-lhes: Assim diz o SENHOR Deus de Israel, ao qual me enviastes para que eu apresentasse vossa suplicação diante de sua presença:
and said unto them, Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel—unto whom ye sent me, to cause your supplication to fall prostrate before him: —
10 Se ficardes nesta terra, então eu vos edificarei, e não vos destruirei; eu vos plantarei, e não vos arrancarei; pois ressentido estou do mal que tenho vos feito.
If ye will indeed abide, in this land, then will I build you up, and not pull [you] down, and plant you and not uproot [you], —for I have compassion as touching the calamity which I have caused you.
11 Não temais ao rei da Babilônia, do qual tendes medo; não o temais, diz o SENHOR, pois eu estou convosco para vos salvar e vos livrar de sua mão;
Do not fear the face of the king of Babylon, of whose face ye are afraid, —do not fear him, Urgeth Yahweh, for with you, am I, to save you, and to deliver you out of his hand:
12 E vos concederei misericórdia, de modo que ele tenha misericórdia de vós, e vos faça voltar a vossa terra.
that I may grant you compassions and he may have compassion upon you, —and suffer you to return unto your own soil.
13 Mas se disserdes: Não ficaremos nesta terra, desobedecendo à voz do SENHOR vosso Deus,
But, since ye are saying, —We will not dwell in this land, —nor hearken unto the voice of Yahweh your God:
14 E dizendo: Não, em vez disso iremos à terra do Egito, na qual não veremos guerra, nem ouviremos som de trombeta, nem teremos fome de pão, e ali ficaremos;
saying, —No! for, into the land of Egypt, will we go, where we shall not see war, nor the sound of a horn, shall we hear, —nor for bread, shall we be famished, —there, then will we dwell
15 Então assim ouvi a palavra do SENHOR, ó restantes de Judá; assim diz o SENHOR dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Se dirigirdes vossos rostos para entrar no Egito, e irdes para peregrinar ali,
Now, therefore, for this cause, hear ye the word of Yahweh, O remnant of Judah, —Thus! saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, —If, ye do indeed set your faces to enter Egypt and do enter to sojourn there,
16 Será que a espada que vós temeis, ali ela vos tomará na terra do Egito, e a fome que vos deixa preocupados, ali no Egito ela vos pegará; e ali morrereis.
then shall it come to pass that the sword which ye are fearing shall, there, overtake you, in the land of Egypt, —and the famine which ye are dreading, shall, there, lay fast hold of you, in Egypt, and, there, shall ye die.
17 Assim será com todos os homens que dirigirem seus rostos para irem ao Egito, para ali peregrinar: morrerão pela espada, pela fome, e pela pestilência; não haverá um deles sequer que reste vivo, nem que escape do mal que eu trarei sobre eles.
So shall it be with all the men who have set their faces to enter Egypt to sojourn there, they shall die by sword, by famine or by pestilence, —and they shall have neither survival nor escape, from the face of the calamity which I am about to bring in upon them.
18 Porque assim diz o SENHOR dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Tal como se derramou minha ira e minha indignação sobre os moradores de Jerusalém, assim também se derramará minha indignação sobre vós, quando entrardes no Egito; e servireis de maldição e de espanto; de amaldiçoamento e de humilhação; e não vereis mais a este lugar.
For—Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, —Just as mine anger and mine indignation have been poured out upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall mine indignation be poured out upon you when ye enter into Egypt, —thus shall ye become a curse, and an astonishment and a contempt and a reproach, and ye shall no more see this place.
19 O SENHOR já falou quanto vós, ó restantes de Judá: Não entreis no Egito; Tende certeza de que eu vos advirto hoje.
Yahweh hath spoken concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah, Do not enter into Egypt: Know certainly, that I have taken you to witness to-day.
20 Porque levais vossas próprias almas ao erro; pois vós me enviastes ao SENHOR vosso Deus, dizendo: Ora por nós ao SENHOR nosso Deus; e conforme a tudo quanto o SENHOR nosso Deus disser, assim nos faz saber, e o faremos.
For ye have deceived yourselves at the cost of your lives, for, ye yourselves, sent me unto Yahweh your God, saying, —Pray thou in our behalf, unto Yahweh our God, —and according to all that Yahweh our God shall say, so, tell us and we will do it.
21 E eu já vos fiz saber hoje, porém não destes ouvidos à voz do SENHOR vosso Deus, nem a tudo pelo que ele me enviou a vós.
Therefore have I told you to-day, —and yet ye have not hearkened unto the voice of Yahweh your God, even in any thing for which he hath sent me unto you.
22 Agora, portanto, tende certeza de que pela espada, pela fome, e pela pestilência, morrereis no lugar onde desejastes entrar para ali peregrinardes.
Now, therefore, know ye certainly, that by sword, by famine, or by pestilence, shall ye die, —in the place whither ye have desired to go, to sojourn.
