Tiago 4
1 De onde [vêm] as guerras e brigas entre vós? Acaso não [vêm] disto, das vossas cobiças que guerreiam nos membros do vosso corpo?
Where do the wars and disputes among you come from? Is it not precisely from your pleasures, the ones at war in your members?
2 Cobiçais, e nada tendes; matais e sois invejosos, mas não conseguis obter; combateis e guerreais, mas nada tendes, porque não pedis.
You crave and do not have; you murder and covet and are not able to obtain; you fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask.
3 Pedis, e não recebeis, porque pedis mal, para gastardes nos vossos prazeres.
You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly, so that you may lavish it on your pleasures.
4 Adúlteros e adúlteras, não sabeis que a amizade do mundo é inimizade contra Deus? Portanto, quem quiser ser amigo do mundo constitui-se inimigo de Deus.
Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? So whoever may want to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
5 Ou pensais ser em vão que a Escritura diz: “O Espírito que ele fez habitar em nós ansia com ciúmes?”
Or do you suppose that the Scripture says in vain that the Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously?
6 Porém ele concede uma graça maior. Por isso diz: Deus resiste aos soberbos, mas concede graça aos humildes.
But He gives greater grace; therefore He says: “God resists proud ones, but gives grace to humble ones.”
7 Sujeitai-vos, pois, a Deus; resisti ao diabo, e ele fugirá de vós.
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
8 Aproximai-vos de Deus, e ele se aproximará de vós. Limpai as [vossas] mãos, pecadores, e vós de dupla mentalidade, purificai os [vossos] corações.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Sinners, cleanse your hands! Double-minded, purify your hearts!
9 Reconhecei vossas misérias, lamentai e chorai. Torne-se o vosso riso em pranto, e a [vossa] alegria em tristeza.
Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your joy into dejection.
10 Humilhai-vos diante do Senhor, e ele vos exaltará.
Humble yourself before the Lord and He will exalt you.
11 Irmãos, não faleis mal uns dos outros. Quem fala mal de um irmão, ou julga o seu irmão, fala mal da lei, e julga a lei. E se julgas a lei, não és um cumpridor da lei, mas, sim, juiz.
Brothers, do not speak evil of one another. Because the one speaking against a brother and judging his brother speaks against a law and judges a law. So if you judge a law you are not a law-doer but a judge.
12 Um [só] é o Legislador e Juiz, que pode salvar e destruir. Quem és tu, que julgas o próximo?
The Lawgiver and Judge is One, the one who is able to save and to destroy. So who are you (sg) to be judging someone who is different?
13 Atenção! Vós que dizeis: “Hoje ou amanhã iremos a uma tal cidade, e lá passaremos um ano negociando e lucrando”;
Come now, you who say, “Today and tomorrow let us travel to that certain city, spend a year there, do business and make a profit;”
14 mas não sabeis o amanhã. Pois o que [é] a vossa vida? Sois um vapor, que por pouco tempo aparece, e logo se desvanece.
whereas you do not know anything about the morrow. For what is our life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time but then vanishes away.
15 Em vez disso, devíeis dizer: Se o Senhor quiser, e vivermos, faremos isso ou aquilo.
Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”
16 Mas agora vos orgulhais nas vossas presunções; todo orgulho como esse é maligno.
But now you boast in your arrogant pretensions. All such boasting is malignant.
17 Portanto, quem sabe fazer o bem, e não [o] faz, comete pecado.
Therefore, to the one knowing to do good and not doing it, to him it is sin.
