Tiago 3
1 Meus irmãos, não sejais muitos de vós mestres, porque sabeis que receberemos um julgamento mais rigoroso.
My brethren, be not many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
2 Pois todos tropeçamos em muitas coisas. Se alguém não tropeça no que diz, tal homem é completo, e também capaz de refrear todo o corpo.
For in many things we all offend. If any one offends not in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
3 Ora, pomos freios nas bocas dos cavalos para nos obedecerem, e [assim] manobramos todo o corpo deles.
Behold, we put bits into horses mouths that they may obey us, and we turn about their whole body.
4 Vede também os navios, sendo tão grandes, e levados por impetuosos ventos, são manobrados com um pequeníssimo leme para onde quer que queira o impulso daquele que dirige.
Behold also the ships, which are very great, and are driven by violent winds; yet they are turned about by a very small helm, to whatever point the will of him that directs it may determine.
5 Assim também a língua é um pequeno membro, mas se orgulha de grandes coisas. Vede como um pequeno fogo incendeia um grande bosque!
So, also, the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a forest does a little fire set in a blaze.
6 A língua também [é] um fogo, o mundo da injustiça; a língua está posta entre os nossos membros, contaminando o corpo todo, inflamando o curso da natureza humana, e sendo inflamada pelo inferno. (Geenna g1067)
And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity. So is the tongue placed among our members, defiling the whole body, setting on fire the course of life, and being set on fire by hell. (Geenna g1067)
7 Pois toda espécie, tanto de animais selvagens como de aves, tanto de répteis como de animais marinhos, é dominível e tem sido dominada pela espécie humana;
For every kind of beasts and of birds, of creeping things and of things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed by man:
8 Mas nenhum ser humano consegue dominar a língua; ela é um mal que não se cansa, cheia de veneno mortal.
but the tongue no man can tame; it is an unruly evil; it is full of deadly poison.
9 Com ela bendizemos o Deus e Pai, e com ela amaldiçoamos os seres humanos, que são feitos à semelhança de Deus.
With it we bless God, even the Father: and with it we curse men, who are made in the likeness of God.
10 Da mesma boca procedem benção e maldição. Meus irmãos, isso não deve ser assim.
Out of the same mouth come forth blessing and cursing. These things, my brethren, ought not so to be.
11 Acaso uma fonte jorra do mesmo manancial [água] doce e [água] amarga?
Does a fountain send forth from the same cavern sweet water and bitter?
12 Meus irmãos, pode a figueira dar azeitonas, ou a videira figos? E nenhuma fonte dá tanto água salgada como doce.
Can the fig-tree, my brethren, bear olives, or the vine, figs? So no fountain can produce salt water and fresh.
13 Quem dentre vós for sábio e inteligente, que mostre pela boa conduta as suas obras em humildade de sabedoria.
Who is wise and discreet among you? Let him show, by a good behavior, his works, with the meekness of wisdom.
14 Porém, se tendes amarga inveja e rivalidade no vosso coração, não vos orgulheis, nem mintais contra a verdade.
But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
15 Esta sabedoria não é a que vem do alto, mas sim, terrena, animal, [e] demoníaca.
This wisdom comes not from above, but is earthly, animal, demoniac.
16 Pois onde [há] inveja e rivalidade, ali [há] perturbação e toda obra perversa.
For where envy and strife are, there is commotion, and every evil work.
17 Mas a sabedoria do alto é primeiramente pura, depois pacífica, moderada, tratável, cheia de misericórdia e de bons frutos, imparcial e sem hipocrisia.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
18 E o fruto da justiça é semeado na paz para os que praticam a paz.
And those who cultivate peace, sow for themselves a harvest of righteousness in peace.
