Gênesis 24
1 E Abraão era velho, e cheio de dias; e o SENHOR havia abençoado a Abraão em tudo.
And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.
2 E disse Abraão a um criado seu, o mais velho de sua casa, que era o que governava em tudo o que tinha: Põe agora tua mão debaixo de minha coxa,
And Abraham said to his oldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray you, your hand under my thigh:
3 E te juramentarei pelo SENHOR, Deus dos céus e Deus da terra, que não tomarás mulher para meu filho das filhas dos cananeus, entre os quais eu habito;
And I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
4 Em vez disso irás à minha terra e à minha parentela, e tomarás mulher para meu filho Isaque.
But you shall go to my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife to my son Isaac.
5 E o criado lhe respondeu: Talvez a mulher não queira vir atrás de mim a esta terra; farei voltar, pois, teu filho à terra de onde saíste?
And the servant said to him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me to this land: must I needs bring your son again to the land from where you came?
6 E Abraão lhe disse: Guarda-te que não faças voltar a meu filho ali.
And Abraham said to him, Beware you that you bring not my son thither again.
7 O SENHOR, Deus dos céus, que me tomou da casa de meu pai e da terra de minha parentela, e me falou e me jurou, dizendo: À tua descendência darei esta terra; ele enviará seu anjo diante de ti, e tu tomarás dali mulher para meu filho.
The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spoke to me, and that swore to me, saying, To your seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife to my son from there.
8 E se a mulher não quiser vir atrás de ti, serás livre deste meu juramento; somente que não faças voltar ali a meu filho.
And if the woman will not be willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.
9 Então o criado pôs sua mão debaixo da coxa de Abraão seu senhor, e jurou-lhe sobre este negócio.
And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning that matter.
10 E o criado tomou dez camelos dos camelos de seu senhor, e foi-se, pois tinha à sua disposição todos os bens de seu senhor: e posto em caminho, chegou à Mesopotâmia, à cidade de Naor.
And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.
11 E fez ajoelhar os camelos fora da cidade, junto a um poço de água, à hora da tarde, à hora em que saem as moças por água.
And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.
12 E disse: SENHOR, Deus de meu senhor Abraão, dá-me, te rogo, o ter hoje bom encontro, e faze misericórdia com meu senhor Abraão.
And he said O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray you, send me good speed this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.
13 Eis que eu estou junto à fonte de água, e as filhas dos homens desta cidade saem por água:
Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
14 Seja, pois, que a moça a quem eu disser: Baixa teu cântaro, te rogo, para que eu beba; e ela responder: Bebe, e também darei de beber a teus camelos: que seja esta a que tu destinaste para teu servo Isaque; e nisto conhecerei que haverás feito misericórdia com meu senhor.
And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down your pitcher, I pray you, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give your camels drink also: let the same be she that you have appointed for your servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that you have showed kindness to my master.
15 E aconteceu que antes que ele acabasse de falar, eis que Rebeca, que havia nascido a Betuel, filho de Milca, mulher de Naor irmão de Abraão, a qual saía com seu cântaro sobre seu ombro.
And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder.
16 E a moça era de muito belo aspecto, virgem, à que homem não havia conhecido; a qual desceu à fonte, e encheu seu cântaro, e se voltava.
And the damsel was very fair to look on, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.
17 Então o criado correu até ela, e disse: Rogo-te que me dês a beber um pouco de água de teu cântaro.
And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray you, drink a little water of your pitcher.
18 E ela respondeu: Bebe, meu senhor; e apressou-se a baixar seu cântaro sobre sua mão, e lhe deu a beber.
And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him drink.
19 E quando acabou de dar-lhe de beber, disse: Também para teus camelos tirarei água, até que acabem de beber.
And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw water for your camels also, until they have done drinking.
20 E apressou-se, e esvaziou seu cântaro no bebedouro, e correu outra vez ao poço para tirar água, e tirou para todos os seus camelos.
And she hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.
21 E o homem estava maravilhado dela, permanecendo calado, para saber se o SENHOR havia prosperado ou não sua viagem.
And the man wondering at her held his peace, to wit whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not.
22 E foi que quando os camelos acabaram de beber, presenteou-lhe o homem um pendente de ouro que pesava meio siclo, e dois braceletes que pesavam dez;
And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold;
23 E disse: De quem és filha? Rogo-te me digas, há lugar em casa de teu pai onde possamos passar a noite?
And said, Whose daughter are you? tell me, I pray you: is there room in your father’s house for us to lodge in?
24 E ela respondeu: Sou filha de Betuel, filho de Milca, o qual deu à luz ela a Naor.
And she said to him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bore to Nahor.
25 E acrescentou: Também há em nossa casa palha e muita forragem, e lugar para passar a noite.
She said moreover to him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.
26 O homem então se inclinou, e adorou ao SENHOR.
And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
27 E disse: Bendito seja o SENHOR, Deus de meu senhor Abraão, que não afastou sua misericórdia e sua verdade de meu senhor, guiando-me o SENHOR no caminho à casa dos irmãos de meu senhor.
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who has not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brothers.
28 E a moça correu, e fez saber na casa de sua mãe estas coisas.
And the damsel ran, and told them of her mother’s house these things.
29 E Rebeca tinha um irmão que se chamava Labão, o qual correu fora ao homem, à fonte;
And Rebekah had a brother, and his name was Laban: and Laban ran out to the man, to the well.
30 E foi que quando viu o pendente e os braceletes nas mãos de sua irmã, que dizia, Assim me falou aquele homem; veio a ele: e eis que estava junto aos camelos à fonte.
And it came to pass, when he saw the earring and bracelets on his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spoke the man to me; that he came to the man; and, behold, he stood by the camels at the well.
31 E disse-lhe: Vem, bendito do SENHOR; por que estás fora? eu limpei a casa, e o lugar para os camelos.
And he said, Come in, you blessed of the LORD; why stand you without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.
32 Então o homem veio à casa, e Labão desatou os camelos; e deu-lhes palha e forragem, e água para lavar os pés dele, e os pés dos homens que com ele vinham.
And the man came into the house: and he ungirded his camels, and gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet, and the men’s feet that were with him.
33 E puseram diante dele comida; mas ele disse: Não comerei até que tenha dito minha mensagem. E ele lhe disse: Fala.
And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told my errand. And he said, Speak on.
34 Então disse: Eu sou criado de Abraão;
And he said, I am Abraham’s servant.
35 E o SENHOR abençoou muito a meu senhor, e ele se engrandeceu: e lhe deu ovelhas e vacas, prata e ouro, servos e servas, camelos e asnos.
And the LORD has blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he has given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
36 E Sara, mulher de meu senhor, deu à luz em sua velhice um filho a meu senhor, quem lhe deu tudo quanto tem.
And Sarah my master’s wife bore a son to my master when she was old: and to him has he given all that he has.
37 E meu senhor me fez jurar, dizendo: Não tomarás mulher para meu filho das filhas dos cananeus, em cuja terra habito;
And my master made me swear, saying, You shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
38 Em vez disso irás à casa de meu pai, e à minha parentela, e tomarás mulher para meu filho.
But you shall go to my father’s house, and to my kindred, and take a wife to my son.
39 E eu disse: Talvez a mulher não queira me seguir.
And I said to my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me.
40 Então ele me respondeu: O SENHOR, em cuja presença tenho andado, enviará seu anjo contigo, e fará teu caminho ser bem-sucedido; e tomarás mulher para meu filho de minha linhagem e da casa de meu pai;
And he said to me, The LORD, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father’s house:
41 Então serás livre de meu juramento, quando houveres chegado à minha linhagem; e se não a derem a ti, serás livre de meu juramento.
Then shall you be clear from this my oath, when you come to my kindred; and if they give not you one, you shall be clear from my oath.
42 Cheguei, pois, hoje à fonte, e disse: SENHOR, Deus de meu senhor Abraão, se tu fazes bem-sucedido agora meu caminho pelo qual ando;
And I came this day to the well, and said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, if now you do prosper my way which I go:
43 Eis que eu estou junto à fonte de água; seja, pois, que a virgem que sair por água, à qual disser: Dá-me de beber, te rogo, um pouco de água de teu cântaro;
Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin comes forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray you, a little water of your pitcher to drink;
44 E ela me responder, Bebe tu, e também para teus camelos tirarei água: esta seja a mulher que destinou o SENHOR para o filho de meu senhor.
And she say to me, Both drink you, and I will also draw for your camels: let the same be the woman whom the LORD has appointed out for my master’s son.
45 E antes que acabasse de falar em meu coração, eis que Rebeca saía com seu cântaro sobre seu ombro; e desceu à fonte, e tirou água; e lhe disse: Rogo-te que me dês de beber.
And before I had done speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down to the well, and drew water: and I said to her, Let me drink, I pray you.
46 E prontamente baixou seu cântaro de cima de si, e disse: Bebe, e também a teus camelos darei a beber. E bebi, e deu também de beber a meus camelos.
And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give your camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.
47 Então lhe perguntei, e disse: De quem és filha? E ela respondeu: Filha de Betuel, filho de Naor, que Milca lhe deu. Então pus nela um pendente sobre seu nariz, e braceletes sobre suas mãos;
And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter are you? And she said, the daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore to him: and I put the earring on her face, and the bracelets on her hands.
48 E inclinei-me, e adorei ao SENHOR, e bendisse ao SENHOR, Deus de meu senhor Abraão, que me havia guiado pelo caminho de verdade para tomar a filha do irmão de meu senhor para seu filho.
And I bowed down my head, and worshipped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter to his son.
49 Agora, pois, se vós fazeis misericórdia e verdade com meu senhor, declarai-o a mim; e se não, declarai-o a mim; e irei embora à direita ou à esquerda.
And now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.
50 Então Labão e Betuel responderam e disseram: Do SENHOR saiu isto; não podemos falar-te mal nem bem.
Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceeds from the LORD: we cannot speak to you bad or good.
51 Eis aí Rebeca diante de ti; toma-a e vai-te, e seja mulher do filho de teu senhor, como o disse o SENHOR.
Behold, Rebekah is before you, take her, and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as the LORD has spoken.
52 E foi, que quando o criado de Abraão ouviu suas palavras, inclinou-se à terra ao SENHOR.
And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he worshipped the LORD, bowing himself to the earth.
53 E o criado tirou objetos de prata, objetos de ouro e roupas, e deu a Rebeca: também deu coisas preciosas a seu irmão e a sua mãe.
And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.
54 E comeram e beberam ele e os homens que vinham com ele, e dormiram; e levantando-se de manhã, disse: Autorizai-me voltar a meu senhor.
And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away to my master.
55 Então respondeu seu irmão e sua mãe: Espere a moça conosco ao menos dez dias, e depois irá.
And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.
56 E ele lhes disse: Não me detenhais, pois que o SENHOR fez prosperar meu caminho; despede-me para que me vá a meu senhor.
And he said to them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD has prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.
57 Eles responderam então: Chamemos a moça e perguntemos a ela.
And they said, We will call the damsel, and inquire at her mouth.
58 E chamaram a Rebeca, e disseram-lhe: Irás tu com este homem? E ela respondeu: Sim, irei.
And they called Rebekah, and said to her, Will you go with this man? And she said, I will go.
59 Então deixaram ir a Rebeca sua irmã, e à sua criada, e ao criado de Abraão e a seus homens.
And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant, and his men.
60 E abençoaram a Rebeca, e disseram-lhe: És nossa irmã; sejas em milhares de milhares, e tua geração possua a porta de seus inimigos.
And they blessed Rebekah, and said to her, You are our sister, be you the mother of thousands of millions, and let your seed possess the gate of those which hate them.
61 Levantou-se então Rebeca e suas moças, e subiram sobre os camelos, e seguiram ao homem; e o criado tomou a Rebeca, e foi embora.
And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode on the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way.
62 E vinha Isaque do poço do Vivente que me vê; porque ele habitava na terra do Sul;
And Isaac came from the way of the well Lahairoi; for he dwelled in the south country.
63 E havia saído Isaque a orar ao campo, à hora da tarde; e levantando seus olhos, olhou, e eis os camelos que vinham.
And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.
64 Rebeca também levantou seus olhos, e viu a Isaque, e desceu do camelo;
And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel.
65 Porque havia perguntado ao criado: Quem é este homem que vem pelo campo até nós? E o servo havia respondido: Este é meu senhor. Ela então tomou o véu, e cobriu-se.
For she had said to the servant, What man is this that walks in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a veil, and covered herself.
66 Então o criado contou a Isaque tudo o que havia feito.
And the servant told Isaac all things that he had done.
67 E trouxe-a Isaque à tenda de sua mãe Sara, e tomou a Rebeca por mulher; e amou-a: e consolou-se Isaque depois da morte de sua mãe.
And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.
