Gálatas 4
1 Digo, porém, que, enquanto o herdeiro é criança, em nada é diferente do servo, ainda que seja senhor de tudo.
Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth in no respect from a bond-servant, though he is lord of all;
2 Mas está sob tutores e administradores, até o tempo determinado pelo pai.
but is under guardians and stewards, until the time appointed by the father.
3 Assim também nós, quando éramos crianças, estávamos escravizados debaixo dos princípios elementares do mundo.
So also we, when we were children, were in bondage under the rudiments of the world;
4 Mas quando o tempo se completou, Deus enviou o seu Filho, nascido de mulher, nascido sob a Lei,
but when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
5 para redimir os que estavam sob a Lei, a fim de que nós recebêssemos a adoção como filhos.
to redeem those under the Law, that we might be adopted as sons.
6 E, como sois filhos, Deus enviou aos nossos corações o Espírito do seu Filho, que clama: “Aba, Pai!”
And to show that ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father!
7 Portanto, tu já não és mais servo, mas sim filho; e se és filho, também és herdeiro por meio de Deus.
So then thou art no longer a bond-servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
8 Quando, porém, não conhecíeis a Deus, vós servíeis aos que por natureza não são deuses.
But at that time, indeed, when ye knew not God, ye were in slavery to those who in their nature are not gods;
9 Mas agora, que conheceis Deus, mais que isso, por Deus sois conhecidos, por que voltais outra vez aos fracos e miseráveis princípios elementares, aos quais quereis servir de novo?
but now, after having known God, or rather having been known by God, how is it that ye are turning back to the weak and beggarly rudiments to which ye wish to be again in bondage?
10 Vós guardais dias, meses, tempos, e anos.
Do ye observe days, and months, and times, and years?
11 Temo a vosso respeito de que talvez eu tenha trabalhado para convosco em vão.
I fear for you, lest I may have bestowed upon you labor in vain.
12 Rogo-vos, irmãos, que sejais como eu, pois também eu sou como vós. Nenhum mal me fizestes.
Brethren, I beseech you, become as I am, for I also have become as ye are; ye injured me in nothing.
13 E vós sabeis que foi com uma enfermidade da carne que vos anunciei o Evangelho pela primeira vez;
Nay, ye know that it was on account of an infirmity of the flesh that I preached the gospel to you the former time,
14 E não cedestes à tentação de ter desprezo ou repugnância por meu aspecto físico; ao contrário, vós me recebestes como a um mensageiro de Deus, como ao [próprio] Cristo Jesus.
and my trial which was in my flesh ye did not despise nor spurn; but received me as an angel of God, yea, as Christ Jesus.
15 Onde está, pois, a vossa alegria? Pois eu vos dou testemunho de que, se fosse possível, teríeis arrancado os vossos próprios olhos para dá-los a mim.
How great then was your boasting of happiness! for I bear you witness, that if possible, ye would have plucked out your eyes, and have given them to me.
16 Tornei-me, por acaso, vosso inimigo por ter vos dito a verdade?
So then, have I become your enemy because I tell you the truth?
17 Eles têm interesse por vós, mas não com boa intenção; mas querem vos isolar [de mim], para que vós mostreis interesse por eles.
They show a zeal for you, but not in honesty; yea, they wish to exclude you, that ye may be zealous for them.
18 É bom, porém, mostrar interesse para o bem sempre, e não somente quando estou presente convosco.
But it is good to be an object of zeal in what is good always, and not only when I am present with you.
19 Meus filhinhos, por quem volto a sofrer dores de parto, até que Cristo seja formado em vós:
My children, with whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you, —
20 queria eu estar agora presente convosco, e mudar meu tom de voz, pois estou perplexo a vosso respeito.
I could wish indeed to be present with you now, and to change my tone, for I am in perplexity about you.
21 Respondei-me vós, que quereis estar sob a Lei: não ouvis a Lei?
Tell me, ye that desire to be under the Law, do ye not hear the Law?
22 Pois está escrito que Abraão tinha dois filhos: um da escrava, e outro da livre.
For it is written, that Abraham had two sons; the one by the bondwoman, the other by the freewoman.
23 O da escrava nasceu segundo a carne, mas o da livre, pela promessa.
But the one by the bondwoman was born after the flesh; while the one by the freewoman was through the promise.
24 Isto serve de ilustração, pois estes são dois pactos: um é o do monte Sinai, que gera filhos para a escravidão, que é Agar.
Which things are written allegorically; for these women are two covenants; the one from Mount Sinai, who beareth children into bondage, which is Hagar;
25 Ora, esta Agar é o monte Sinai, na Arábia, e corresponde à Jerusalém de agora, pois é escravizada com os filhos dela.
for the word Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; and she corresponds to the Jerusalem now existing, for she is in bondage with her children;
26 Mas a Jerusalém de cima é livre; esta é a nossa mãe.
but the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.
27 Pois está escrito: Alegra-te, ó estéril, que não geras filhos; extravasa gritando de júbilo, tu, que não estás de parto; porque muitos mais são os filhos da solitária, que os da que tem marido.
For it is written: “Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not; for many are the children of the desolate one, rather than of her who hath the husband.”
28 Vós, porém, irmãos, como Isaque, sois filhos da promessa.
But ye, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of a promise.
29 Porém, assim como naquele tempo o que nasceu segundo a carne perseguia o que [nasceu] segundo o Espírito, assim também é agora.
But as at that time he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born through the Spirit, so it is now.
30 Mas o que diz a Escritura? Expulsa a escrava e o filho dela, porque de maneira nenhuma o filho da escrava herdará com o filho da livre.
But what saith the scripture? “Cast out the bondwoman and her son; for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.”
31 Portanto, irmãos, não somos filhos da escrava, mas sim da livre.
So then, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, but of the freewoman.
