Eclesiastes 8
1 Quem é semelhante ao sábio? E quem sabe a interpretação das coisas? A sabedoria do homem faz seu rosto brilhar, e a dureza de seu rosto é alterada.
Who is as the wise man? and who knoweth the interpretation of a thing? the wisedome of a man doth make his face to shine: and the strength of his face shalbe changed.
2 Eu digo: obedece às ordens do rei, por causa do juramento [que fizeste] a Deus.
I aduertise thee to take heede to ye mouth of the King, and to the worde of the othe of God.
3 Não te apresses de sair da presença dele, nem persistas em alguma coisa má; pois tudo que ele deseja, ele faz.
Haste not to goe forth of his sight: stand not in an euill thing: for he will doe whatsoeuer pleaseth him.
4 Naquilo que há a palavra do rei, ali há autoridade; e quem lhe dirá: O que estás fazendo?
Where the word of ye King is, there is power, and who shall say vnto him, What doest thou?
5 Quem obedecer ao mandamento não experimentará mal algum; e o coração do sábio sabe a hora e a maneira [corretas].
He that keepeth the commandement, shall knowe none euill thing, and the heart of the wise shall knowe the time and iudgement.
6 Porque para todo propósito há uma hora e uma maneira [correta]; por isso o mal do homem é muito sobre ele:
For to euery purpose there is a time and iudgement, because the miserie of man is great vpon him.
7 Pois ele não sabe o que irá acontecer. Quem pode lhe avisar o que vai acontecer, e quando?
For he knoweth not that which shalbe: for who can tell him when it shalbe?
8 Não há homem nenhum que tenha domínio sobre o espírito, para reter ao espírito; nem [tem] domínio sobre dia da morte, nem meios de escapar d [esta] guerra; nem a perversidade livrará a seus donos.
Man is not lorde ouer the spirit to retaine the spirite: neither hath hee power in the day of death, nor deliuerance in the battell, neither shall wickednesse deliuer the possessers thereof.
9 Tudo isto vi quando fiz coração considerar toda obra que se faz abaixo do sol: há um tempo em que um homem passa a dominar [outro] homem, para sua [própria] ruína.
All this haue I seene, and haue giuen mine heart to euery worke, which is wrought vnder the sunne, and I sawe a time that man ruleth ouer man to his owne hurt.
10 Também assim vi os perversos sepultados, e vinham, e saíam do lugar santo; e eles foram esquecidos na cidade em que assim fizeram; isso também é futilidade.
And likewise I sawe the wicked buried, and they returned, and they that came from the holy place, were yet forgotten in the citie where they had done right: this also is vanitie.
11 Dado que o julgamento pela obra má não é feito imediatamente, por causa disso o coração dos filhos dos homens está cheio [de vontade] neles, para fazer o mal.
Because sentence against an euill worke is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the children of men is fully set in them to doe euill.
12 Ainda que um pecador faça o mal cem vezes e [sua vida] se prolongue, mesmo assim eu sei, que as coisas boas acontecerão aos que temem a Deus, aos que temerem diante da sua face.
Though a sinner doe euill an hundreth times, and God prolongeth his dayes, yet I knowe that it shalbe well with them that feare the Lord, and doe reuerence before him.
13 Porém ao perverso não sucederá o bem, e não prolongará [seus] dias, [que serão] como uma sombra, pois ele não tem temor diane de Deus.
But it shall not be well to the wicked, neither shall he prolong his dayes: he shall be like a shadowe, because he feareth not before God.
14 Há [outra] futilidade que é feita sobre a terra: que há justos a quem acontece conforme as obras dos perversos, e há perversos a quem acontece conforme as obras dos justos. Digo que isso também é futilidade.
There is a vanitie, which is done vpon the earth, that there be righteous men to whom it commeth according to the worke of the wicked: and there be wicked men to whom it commeth according to the worke of the iust: I thought also that this is vanitie.
15 Assim elogiei a alegria, pois o homem não tem nada melhor abaixo do sol do que comer, beber e se alegrar; que isso acompanhe seu trabalho nos dias de sua vida, que Deus lhe dá abaixo do sol.
And I praysed ioy: for there is no goodnesse to man vnder the sunne, saue to eate and to drinke and to reioyce: for this is adioyned to his labour, the dayes of his life that God hath giuen him vnder the sunne.
16 Enquanto entregava meu coração a entender a sabedoria, e ver a ocupação que é feita abaixo do sol (ainda que nem de dia, nem de noite, [o homem] veja sono em seus olhos),
When I applied mine heart to knowe wisedome, and to behold the busines that is done on earth, that neither day nor night the eyes of man take sleepe,
17 Então vi toda a obra de Deus, que o homem não pode compreender a obra que é feita abaixo do sol; mesmo que o homem trabalhe para a buscar, ele não a encontrará; ainda que o sábio diga que a conhece, ele não pode compreendê [-la].
Then I behelde the whole worke of God, that man cannot finde out ye worke that is wrought vnder the sunne: for the which man laboureth to seeke it, and cannot finde it: yea, and though the wise man thinke to knowe it, he cannot finde it.
