Eclesiastes 7
1 Melhor é uma boa reputação do que o bom óleo perfumado; e o dia da morte [é melhor] que o dia de seu nascimento
A good name is better than good oil; and the day of death than the day of birth.
2 Melhor é ir à casa do luto do que a casa do banquete, [porque] isto é o fim de todos os homens; e os vivos tomam isto em seus corações.
[It is] better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the banquet house: since this is the end of every man; and the living man will apply good [warning] to his heart.
3 Melhor é o sofrimento do que o riso, porque com a tristeza do rosto o coração se aperfeiçoa.
Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart will be made better.
4 O coração dos sábios está na casa do luto, mas o coração dos tolos [está] na casa da alegria.
The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
5 Melhor é ouvir a repreensão do sábio do que alguém ouvir a canção dos tolos;
[It is] better to hear a reproof of a wise man, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
6 Pois o riso dos tolos é como o ruído de espinhos debaixo de uma panela; também isto é futilidade.
As the sound of thorns under a caldron, so is the laughter of fools: this is also vanity.
7 Verdadeiramente a opressão faz até o sábio enlouquecer, e o suborno corrompe o coração.
for oppression makes a wise man mad, and destroys his noble heart.
8 Melhor é o fim das coisas do que o princípio delas; melhor é o paciente de espírito do que o arrogante de espírito.
The end of a matter is better than the beginning thereof: the patient is better than the high-minded.
9 Não te apresses em teu espírito para te irares, porque a ira repousa no colo dos tolos.
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger will rest in the bosom of fools.
10 Nunca digas: Por que os dias passados foram melhores que os atuais? Pois nunca com sabedoria perguntarias isso.
Say not, What has happened, that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire in wisdom concerning this.
11 A sabedoria é tão boa quanto uma herança; ela é um proveito para os que veem a luz do sol;
Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and [there is] an advantage [by it] to them that see the sun.
12 porque a sabedoria serve de proteção, assim como o dinheiro serve de proteção; mas a vantagem do conhecimento é que a sabedoria dá vida ao seu dono.
For wisdom in its shadow is as the shadow of silver: and the excellence of the knowledge of wisdom will give life to him that has it.
13 Observa a obra de Deus, pois quem poderá endireitar o que ele entortou?
Behold the works of God: for who shall be able to straighten him whom God has made crooked?
14 No dia da prosperidade, alegra-te; mas no dia da adversidade, considera; pois Deus faz um em contraposição ao outro, para que o homem não consiga descobrir o que haverá depois dele.
In the day of prosperity live joyfully, and consider in the day of adversity: consider, [I say], God also has caused the one to agree with the other for [this] reason, that man should find nothing after him.
15 Tudo [isto] vi nos meus dias de futilidade: há justo que perece em sua justiça, e há perverso que prolonga [sua vida] em sua maldade.
I have seen all things in the days of my vanity: there is a just man perishing in his justice, and there is an ungodly man remaining in his wickedness.
16 Não sejas justo demais, nem sejas sábio demais; para que destruirias a ti mesmo?
Be not very just; neither be very wise: lest thou be confounded.
17 Não sejas perverso demais, nem sejas tolo; para que morrerias antes de teu tempo?
Be not very wicked; and be not stubborn: lest thou shouldest die before thy time.
18 É bom que retenhas isto, e também não retires tua mão disto, pois quem teme a Deus escapa de tudo isto.
It is well for thee to hold fast by this; also by this defile not thine hand: for to them that fear God all things shall come forth [well].
19 A sabedoria fortalece ao sábio, mais do que dez homens de autoridade que estejam na cidade.
Wisdom will help the wise man more than ten mighty men which are in the city.
20 Verdadeiramente não há homem justo sobre a terra, que faça o bem, e nunca peque.
For there is not a righteous man in the earth, who will do good, and not sin
21 Além disso, não dês atenção a todas as palavras que forem ditas, para que não venhas a ouvir que teu servo te amaldiçoa;
Also take no heed to all the words which ungodly men shall speak; lest thou hear thy servant cursing thee.
22 Pois teu coração sabe que também tu já amaldiçoaste a outros.
For many times he shall trespass against thee, and repeatedly shall he afflict thine heart; for thus also hast thou cursed others.
23 Tudo isto investiguei com sabedoria. Eu disse: Terei para mim mais sabedoria; porém ela ficava [ainda] mais longe de mim.
All these things have I proved in wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.
24 Quem pode encontrar o que está distante e tão profundo?
[That which is] far beyond what was, and a great depth, who shall find it out?
25 Decidi em meu coração conhecer, investigar e buscar a sabedoria e a razão; e saber o mal que há na tolice e na loucura das maluquices.
I and my heart went round about to know, and to examine, and to seek wisdom, and the account [of things], and to know the folly and trouble and madness of the ungodly man.
26 E eu encontrei uma coisa mais amarga que a morte: a mulher cujo coração são redes e armadilhas, e suas mãos são amarras; quem for bom perante Deus escapará dela; mas o pecador ficará preso nela.
And I find her [to be], and I will pronounce [to be] more bitter than death the woman which is a snare, and her heart nets, [who has] a band in her hands: [he that is] good in the sight of God shall be delivered from her; but the sinner shall be caught by her.
27 Olha isto: (diz o pregador, enquanto ele procurava entender [as coisas], uma por uma)
Behold, this have I found, said the Preacher, [seeking] by one at a time to find out the account,
28 Aquilo que minha alma tem buscado, ainda não achei; um homem entre mil eu achei; mas uma mulher entre todas estas não achei.
which my soul sought after, but I found not: for I have found one man of a thousand; but a woman in all these I have not found.
29 Eis que somente achei isto: que Deus fez os homens corretos, porém foram eles que buscaram muitos desejos ruins.
But, behold, this have I found, that God made man upright; but they have sought out many devices.
