Eclesiastes 3
1 Para todas as coisas há um tempo determinado, e todo propósito abaixo do céu [tem seu] tempo.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:
2 Tempo de nascer e tempo de morrer; tempo de plantar e tempo de arrancar o que foi plantado.
a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 Tempo de matar e tempo de curar; tempo de derrubar e tempo de construir.
a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 Tempo de chorar e tempo de rir; tempo de lamentar, e tempo de saltar.
a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 Tempo de espalhar pedras e tempo de juntar pedras; tempo de abraçar e tempo de evitar abraçar.
a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 Tempo de buscar e tempo de perder; tempo de guardar e tempo de jogar fora.
a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 Tempo de rasgar e tempo de costurar; tempo de ficar calado e tempo de falar.
a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 Tempo de amar e tempo de odiar; tempo de guerra e tempo de paz.
a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
9 Que proveito tem o trabalhador naquilo em que ele trabalha?
What profit has he who works in that in which he labors?
10 Tenho visto a ocupação que Deus deu aos filhos dos homens, para com ela os manter ocupados.
I have seen the burden which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with.
11 Tudo ele fez belo ao seu tempo; também pôs a sensação de eternidade no coração deles, sem que o homem consiga entender a obra que Deus fez, desde o princípio até o fim.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can't find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end.
12 Tenho percebido que não há coisa melhor para eles do que se alegrarem e fazerem o bem em suas vidas;
I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice, and to do good as long as they live.
13 E também que todo homem coma, beba e fique contente com todo o seu trabalho; [isto] é um presente de Deus.
Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.
14 Eu sei que tudo quanto Deus faz durará para sempre; a isso nada será acrescentado e nada será diminuído; e Deus faz [assim] para que haja temor perante sua presença.
I know that whatever God does, it shall be forever. Nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it; and God has done it, that men should fear before him.
15 O que tem sido agora, já foi antes; e o que vier a ser [também] já foi; Deus busca [de volta] o que foi passado.
That which is has been long ago, and that which is to be has been long ago: and God seeks again that which is passed away.
16 Vi mais abaixo do sol: que no lugar do juízo havia ali perversidade; e que no lugar da justiça havia ali perversidade.
Moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of justice, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.
17 Eu disse em meu coração: Deus julgará ao justo e ao perverso, porque ali há tempo para todo propósito e para toda obra.
I said in my heart, "God will judge the righteous and the wicked; for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work."
18 Eu disse em meu coração quanto aos filhos dos homens, que Deus lhes provaria, para lhes mostrar que eles são como animais.
I said in my heart, "As for the sons of men, God tests them, so that they may see that they themselves are like animals.
19 Porque o que acontece aos filhos dos homens, isso mesmo também acontece aos animais; o mesmo acontece a eles [todos]; assim como um morre, assim também morre o outro; e todos tem uma mesma respiração; e a vantagem dos homens sobre os animais é nenhuma, pois todos são fúteis.
For that which happens to the sons of men happens to animals. Even one thing happens to them. As the one dies, so the other dies. Yes, they have all one breath; and man has no advantage over the animals: for all is vanity.
20 Todos vão a um [mesmo] lugar; todos vieram do pó [da terra], e todos voltarão ao pó.
All go to one place. All are from the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Quem tem certeza de que o fôlego de vida dos homens sobe para cima, e que o fôlego de vida dos animais desce para debaixo da terra?
Who knows the spirit of man, whether it goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, whether it goes downward to the earth?"
22 Por isso tenho visto que não há coisa melhor do que o homem se alegrar de suas obras, porque essa é a parte que lhe pertence; pois quem pode levá-lo a ver o que será depois de sua [morte]?
Therefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who can bring him to see what will be after him?
