Deuteronômio 4

1 Agora, pois, ó Israel, ouve os estatutos e regulamentos que eu vos ensino, para que os executeis, e vivais, e entreis, e possuais a terra que o SENHOR o Deus de vossos pais te dá.

Now, therefore, O Israel, hearken thou unto the statutes, and unto the regulations, which, I, am teaching you, to do [them], —to the end ye may live and enter and possess the land, which, Yahweh, the God of your fathers, is giving unto you.

2 Não acrescentareis à palavra que eu vos mando, nem diminuireis dela, para que guardeis os mandamentos do SENHOR vosso Deus que eu vos ordeno.

Ye shall not add unto the word which, I, am commanding you, neither shall ye take away therefrom, —that ye may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, which, I, am commanding you.

3 Vossos olhos viram o que fez o SENHOR por motivo de Baal-Peor; que a todo homem que foi atrás de Baal-Peor destruiu o SENHOR teu Deus do meio de ti.

Yours are the eyes, that have seen what Yahweh did in Baal-peor, for every man who went after Baal-peor, did Yahweh thy God destroy out of thy midst;

4 Mas vós que vos achegastes ao SENHOR vosso Deus, todos estais vivos hoje.

but, ye who kept on cleaving unto Yahweh your God, alive, are ye all to-day.

5 Olhai, eu vos ensinei estatutos e regulamentos, como o SENHOR meu Deus me mandou, para que façais assim em meio da terra na qual entrais para possuí-la.

See! I have taught you statutes, and regulations, as Yahweh my God commanded me, —that ye should do so, in the midst of the land whereinto ye are entering to possess it.

6 Guardai-os, pois, e ponde-os por obra: porque esta é vossa sabedoria e vossa inteligência aos olhos dos povos, os quais ouvirão todos estes estatutos, e dirão: Certamente povo sábio e entendido, gente grande é esta.

Therefore shall ye observe, and do [them], for that, will be your wisdom, and discernment, in the eyes of the peoples, —who will hear all these statutes, and will say—Nevertheless, a people wise and discerning, is this great nation.

7 Porque que gente grande há que tenha os deuses próximo a si, como o está o SENHOR nosso Deus em tudo quanto lhe pedimos?

For what great nation is there which hath gods nigh unto it, —like Yahweh our God, whensoever we have cried out unto him.

8 E que gente grande há que tenha estatutos e regulamentos justos, como é toda esta lei que eu ponho hoje diante de vós?

Or what great nation which hath righteous statutes and regulations, like all this law, which, I, am setting before you to-day?

9 Portanto, guarda-te, e guarda tua alma com empenho, que não te esqueças das coisas que teus olhos viram, nem se apartem de teu coração todos os dias de tua vida: e as ensinarás a teus filhos, e aos filhos de teus filhos;

Only take thou heed to thyself and keep thy soul diligently, so that thou forget not the things which thine own eyes have seen, and so that they go not out of thy heart, all the days of thy life, —but thou shalt make them known unto thy sons and unto thy sons’ sons: —

10 No dia que estiveste diante do SENHOR teu Deus em Horebe, quando o SENHOR me disse: Junta-me o povo, para que eu lhes faça ouvir minhas palavras, as quais aprenderão, para temer-me todos os dias que viverem sobre a terra: e as ensinarão a seus filhos;

What day thou didst stand before Yahweh thy God, in Horeb, when Yahweh said unto me, Gather unto me the people, that I may let them hear my words, —which they must learn that they may revere me all the days which they are living upon the soil, their children also, must they teach.

11 E vos aproximastes, e vos pusestes ao pé do monte; e o monte ardia em fogo até em meio dos céus com trevas, nuvem, e escuridão.

So ye drew near and stood, under the mountain. Now, the mountain, was burning with fire, up to the midst of the heavens, —darkness, cloud, and thick gloom.

12 E falou o SENHOR convosco do meio do fogo: ouvistes a voz de suas palavras, mas a exceção de ouvir a voz, nenhuma forma vistes:

Then spake Yahweh unto you out of the midst of the fire, —a voice of words, ye were hearing, no form, were ye seeing, there was only a voice.

13 E ele vos anunciou seu pacto, o qual vos mandou pôr por obra, os dez mandamentos; e escreveu-os em duas tábuas de pedra.

Then declared he unto you his covenant which he commanded you to do, the ten words, —and wrote them upon two tables of stone.

14 A mim também me mandou o SENHOR então ensinar-vos os estatutos e regulamentos, para que os pusestes por obra na terra à qual passais para possuí-la.

And unto me, gave Yahweh command, at that time, to teach you statutes and regulations, —that ye should do them, in the land whereinto ye are passing over to possess it.

15 Guardai pois muito vossas almas: pois nenhuma forma vistes no dia que o SENHOR falou convosco do meio do fogo:

Ye must take diligent heed, therefore unto your own souls, for ye saw no manner of form, on the day Yahweh spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire;

16 Para que não vos corrompais, e façais para vós escultura, imagem de forma alguma, efígie de macho ou fêmea,

lest ye should break faith, and make you an image, a form of any likeness, —a model of male or female;

17 Figura de algum animal que seja na terra, forma de ave alguma de asas que voe pelo ar,

a model of any beast that is in the earth, —a model of any winged bird, that flieth in the heavens;

18 Figura de nenhum animal que vá arrastando pela terra, forma de peixe algum que haja na água debaixo da terra:

a model of any thing that creepeth on the ground, —a model of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth;

19 E para que levantando teus olhos ao céu, e vendo o sol e a lua e as estrelas, e todo o exército do céu, não sejas incitado, e te inclines a eles, e lhes sirvas; que o SENHOR teu Deus os concedeu a todos os povos debaixo de todos os céus.

or lest thou shouldest lift up thine eyes towards the heavens and see the sun and the moon, and the stars—all the host of the heavens, and shouldest be seduced, and shouldest bow thyself down to them and he led to serve them, —the which Yahweh thy God hath assigned unto all the peoples under all the heavens;

20 Porém a vós o SENHOR vos tomou, e vos tirou do forno de ferro, do Egito, para que lhe sejais por povo de herança como neste dia.

whereas you, hath Yahweh taken, and brought you forth out of a smelting-pot of iron, out of Egypt, —that ye might become his own inherited people as at this day.

21 E o SENHOR se irou contra mim sobre vossos negócios, e jurou que eu não passaria o Jordão, nem entraria na boa terra, que o SENHOR teu Deus te dá por herança.

But, Yahweh shewed himself angry with me, for your sakes, —and sware that I should not pass over the Jordan, and that I should not enter into the good land, which, Yahweh thy God, is giving unto thee as an inheritance;

22 Assim eu vou a morrer nesta terra; e não passo o Jordão: mas vós passareis, e possuireis aquela boa terra.

for, I, am about to die in this land, I am not to pass over the Jordan, —but, ye, are to pass over, and possess this good land.

23 Guardai-vos que não vos esqueçais do pacto do SENHOR vosso Deus, que ele estabeleceu convosco, e vos façais escultura ou imagem de qualquer coisa, que o SENHOR teu Deus te proibiu.

Take heed to yourselves lest ye forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he hath solemnised with you, —and so make for yourselves an image, the form of anything, the which Yahweh thy God hath forbidden thee;

24 Porque o SENHOR teu Deus é fogo que consome, Deus zeloso.

seeing that as for Yahweh thy God, a consuming fire, he is, —a jealous GOD.

25 Quando houverdes gerado filhos e netos, e houverdes envelhecido na terra, e vos corromperdes, e fizerdes escultura ou imagem de qualquer coisa, e fizerdes mal aos olhos do SENHOR vosso Deus, para irá-lo;

When thou shalt beget sons, and sons’ sons, and become careless in the land and break faith and make an image the form of any thing, and shalt do the thing that is wicked in the eyes of Yahweh thy God provoking him to anger,

26 Eu ponho hoje por testemunhas ao céu e à terra, que logo perecereis totalmente da terra até a qual passais o Jordão para possuí-la: não estareis nela longos dias sem que sejais destruídos.

I take both the heavens and the earth to witness against you to-day, that ye shall, perish, speedily, from off the land which ye are passing over the Jordan to possess, —ye shall not prolong your days thereupon; for, ye shall surely be laid waste;

27 E o SENHOR vos espalhará entre os povos, e restareis poucos em número entre as nações às quais vos levará o SENHOR:

and Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, —and ye shall have left remaining of you men easily counted, among the nations whither Yahweh will drive you;

28 E servireis ali a deuses feitos das mãos de homens, a madeira e a pedra, que não vem, nem ouvem, nem comem, nem cheiram.

and ye will serve there gods made by the hands of man, —wood or stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell.

29 Mas se desde ali buscares ao SENHOR teu Deus, o acharás, se o buscares de todo teu coração e de toda tua alma.

If thou shalt seek from thence, Yahweh thy God, then shalt thou find him, —when thou shalt search after him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul.

30 Quando estiveres em angústia, e te alcançarem todas estas coisas, se nos últimos dias te voltares ao SENHOR teu Deus, e ouvires sua voz;

In thy distress, when all these things have found thee out—in the afterpart of the days, thou wilt return unto Yahweh thy God, and wilt hearken to his voice.

31 Porque Deus misericordioso é o SENHOR teu Deus; não te deixará, nem te destruirá, nem se esquecerá do pacto de teus pais que lhes jurou.

For, a GOD of compassion, is Yahweh thy God, he will not forsake thee neither will he destroy thee, —nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

32 Porque pergunta agora dos tempos passados, que foram antes de ti, desde o dia que criou Deus ao homem sobre a terra, e desde um fim do céu ao outro, se se fez coisa semelhante a esta grande coisa, ou se tenha ouvido outra como ela.

For ask, I pray you, of the former days which were before thee, even from the day when God created man upon the earth, yea from one end of the heavens even to the other end of the heavens, —whether aught was ever brought to pass, like this great thing, or was ever heard of like it:

33 Ouviu povo a voz de Deus, que falasse do meio do fogo, como tu a ouviste, e viveste?

Did a people ever hear the voice of a god speaking out of the midst of fire, as, thou, didst hear, and yet live?

34 Ou experimentou Deus a vir a tomar para si nação do meio de outra nação, com provas, com sinais, com milagres, e com guerra, e mão forte, e braço estendido, e grandes espantos, segundo todas as coisas que fez convosco o SENHOR vosso Deus no Egito diante de teus olhos?

Or did a god ever make trial of entering in to take unto him a nation out of the midst of a nation, by provings, by signs and by wonders and by fighting, and by a firm hand and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors, —according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt, before your eyes?

35 A ti te foi mostrado, para que soubesses que o SENHOR ele é Deus; não há mais além dele.

Thou, wast allowed to see that thou mightest know, that Yahweh, he is God, there is none other than he alone.

36 Dos céus te fez ouvir sua voz, para ensinar-te: e sobre a terra te mostrou seu grande fogo: e ouviste suas palavras do meio do fogo.

Out of the heavens, he let thee hear his voice to instruct thee, —and, upon the earth, he let thee see his great fire, and his own words, thou didst hear out of the midst of the fire.

37 E porquanto ele amou a teus pais, escolheu sua descendência depois deles, e te tirou diante de si do Egito com seu grande poder;

And because that he loved thy fathers, therefore chose he his seed after him, —and brought thee forth with his presence with his great might, out of Egypt;

38 Para lançar de diante de ti nações grandes e mais fortes que tu, e para te introduzir, e dar-te sua terra por herança, como hoje.

to dispossess nations, greater and stronger than thou from before thee, —to bring thee in. to give unto thee their land for an inheritance: As at this day.

39 Aprende pois hoje, e medita em teu coração que o SENHOR ele é o Deus acima no céu, e abaixo sobre a terra; não há outro.

So then thou must consider to-day, and bring it back to thy heart, that, Yahweh, he is God in the heavens above and upon the earth beneath, —there is none other.

40 E guarda seus estatutos e seus mandamentos, que eu te mando hoje, para que te vá bem a ti e a teus filhos depois de ti, e prolongues teus dias sobre a terra que o SENHOR teu Deus te dá para sempre.

So shalt thou keep his statutes and his commandments which, I, am commanding thee to-day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy sons after thee, —and to the end thou mayest prolong thy days upon the soil, which Yahweh thy God, is giving thee, all the days.

41 Então separou Moisés três cidades desta parte do Jordão ao oriente,

Then, did Moses set apart three cities, over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun:

42 Para que fugisse ali o homicida que matasse a seu próximo por acidente, sem haver tido inimizade com ele desde ontem nem antes de ontem; e que fugindo de uma vez destas cidades salvara a vida:

that the manslayer might flee thither who should slay his neighbour unawares, he, not having hated him, aforetime, —and might flee unto one of these cities, and live:

43 A Bezer no deserto, em terra da planície, dos rubenitas; e a Ramote em Gileade, dos gaditas; e a Golã em Basã, dos de Manassés.

namely Bezer, in the desert of the table-land, for the Reubenites, —and Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

44 Esta, pois, é a lei que Moisés propôs diante dos filhos de Israel.

This, then is the law which Moses set before the sons of Israel:

45 Estes são os testemunhos, e os estatutos, e os regulamentos, que Moisés notificou aos filhos de Israel, quando houveram saído do Egito;

These, are the testimonies, and the statutes and the regulations, —which Moses spake unto the sons of Israel when they came forth out of Egypt:

46 Desta parte do Jordão, no vale diante de Bete-Peor, na terra de Seom rei dos amorreus, que habitava em Hesbom, ao qual feriu Moisés com os filhos de Israel, quando saíram do Egito:

over the Jordan in the valley over against Beth-peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, —whom Moses and the sons of Israel smote, when they came forth out of Egypt:

47 E possuíram sua terra, e a terra de Ogue rei de Basã; dois reis dos amorreus que estavam desta parte do Jordão, ao oriente:

so they took possession of his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan the two kings of the Amorites, who were over the Jordan, —towards the rising of the sun;

48 Desde Aroer, que está junto à beira do ribeiro de Arnom, até o monte de Sião, que é Hermom;

from Aroer which is on the edge of the ravine of Arnon, even unto Mount Sion, the same, is Hermon;

49 E toda a planície desta parte do Jordão, ao oriente, até o mar da planície, as encostas das águas abaixo do Pisga.

and all the waste plain over the Jordan, towards sunrise, even unto the sea of the waste plain, —under the slopes of the Pisgah.
