1 Os filhos dos profetas disseram a Eliseu: Eis que o lugar em que moramos contigo nos é estreito.
And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with you is too strait for us.
2 Vamos agora ao Jordão, e tomemos dali cada um uma viga, e façamo-nos ali lugar em que habitemos. E ele disse: Andai.
Let us go, we pray you, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go all of you.
3 E disse um: Rogamos-te que queiras vir com teus servos. E ele respondeu: Eu irei.
And one said, Be content, I pray you, and go with your servants. And he answered, I will go.
4 Foi-se, pois, com eles; e como chegaram ao Jordão, cortaram a madeira.
So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
5 E aconteceu que derrubando uma árvore, caiu o machado na água; e deu vozes, dizendo: Ah, senhor meu, que era emprestada!
But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
6 E o homem de Deus disse: Onde caiu? E ele lhe mostrou o lugar. Então cortou ele um pau, e lançou-o ali; e fez flutuar o ferro.
And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.
7 E disse: Toma-o. E ele estendeu a mão, e tomou-o.
Therefore said he, Take it up to you. And he put out his hand, and took it.
8 Tinha o rei da Síria guerra contra Israel, e consultando com seus servos, disse: Em tal e tal lugar estará meu acampamento.
Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
9 E o homem de Deus enviou a dizer ao rei de Israel: Olha que não passes por tal lugar, porque os sírios vão ali.
And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that you pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
10 Então o rei de Israel enviou a aquele lugar que o homem de Deus havia dito e alertado-lhe; e guardou-se dali, não uma vez nem duas.
And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
11 E o coração do rei da Síria foi perturbado disto; e chamando a seus servos, disse-lhes: Não me declarareis vós quem dos nossos é do rei de Israel?
Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will all of you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?
12 Então um dos servos disse: Não, rei, senhor meu; mas sim que o profeta Eliseu está em Israel, o qual declara ao rei de Israel as palavras que tu falas em tua mais secreta câmara.
And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber.
13 E ele disse: Ide, e olhai onde está, para que eu envie a tomá-lo. E foi-lhe dito: Eis que ele está em Dotã.
And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
14 Então enviou o rei ali cavaleiros, e carros, e um grande exército, os quais vieram de noite, e cercaram a cidade.
Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
15 E levantando-se de manhã o que servia ao homem de Deus, para sair, eis que o exército que tinha cercado a cidade, com cavaleiros e carros. Então seu criado lhe disse: Ah, senhor meu! Que faremos?
And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 E ele lhe disse: Não tenhas medo: porque mais são os que estão conosco do que os que estão com eles.
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 E orou Eliseu, e disse: Rogo-te, ó SENHOR, que abras seus olhos para que veja. Então o SENHOR abriu os olhos do jovem, e olhou; e eis que o monte estava cheio de cavaleiros, e de carros de fogo ao redor de Eliseu.
And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray you, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
18 E logo que os sírios desceram a ele, orou Eliseu ao SENHOR, e disse: Rogo-te que firas a esta gente com cegueira. E feriu-os com cegueira, conforme ao dito de Eliseu.
And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Strike this people, I pray you, with blindness. And he stroke them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
19 Depois lhes disse Eliseu: Não é este o caminho, nem é esta a cidade; segui-me, que eu vos guiarei ao homem que buscais. E guiou-os a Samaria.
And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom all of you seek. But he led them to Samaria.
20 E assim que chegaram a Samaria, disse Eliseu: SENHOR, abre os olhos destes, para que vejam. E o SENHOR abriu seus olhos, e olharam, e acharam-se em meio de Samaria.
And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
21 E quando o rei de Israel os havia visto, disse a Eliseu: Eu os ferirei, pai meu?
And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I strike them? shall I strike them?
22 E ele lhe respondeu: Não os firas; feririas tu aos que tomaste cativos com tua espada e com teu arco? Põe diante deles pão e água, para que comam e bebam, e se voltem a seus senhores.
And he answered, You shall not strike them: would you strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
23 Então lhes foi preparada grande comida: e quando houveram comido e bebido, enviou-os, e eles se voltaram a seu senhor. E nunca mais tropas da Síria vieram à terra de Israel.
And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
24 Depois disto aconteceu, que Ben-Hadade rei da Síria juntou todo seu exército, e subiu, e pôs cerco a Samaria.
And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
25 E houve grande fome em Samaria, tendo eles cerco sobre ela; tanto, que a cabeça de um asno era vendida por oitenta peças de prata, e a quarta parte de uma porção de esterco de pombas por cinco peças de prata.
And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.
26 E passando o rei de Israel pelo muro, uma mulher gritou-lhe, e disse: Socorro, rei, senhor meu.
And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
27 E ele disse: Se o SENHOR não te salva, de onde eu tenho de te salvar? Do granário, ou da prensa de uvas?
And he said, If the LORD do not help you, whence shall I help you? out of the barn floor, or out of the winepress?
28 E disse-lhe o rei: Que tens? E ela respondeu: Esta mulher me disse: Dá aqui o teu filho, e o comamos hoje, e amanhã comeremos o meu.
And the king said unto her, What disturbs you? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give your son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son tomorrow.
29 Cozinhamos, pois, meu filho, e o comemos. O dia seguinte eu lhe disse: Dá aqui o teu filho, e o comamos. Mas ela escondeu seu filho.
So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give your son, that we may eat him: and she has hid her son.
30 E quando o rei ouviu as palavras daquela mulher, rasgou suas roupas, e passou assim pelo muro: e chegou a ver o povo o saco que trazia interiormente sobre sua carne.
And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
31 E ele disse: Assim me faça Deus, e assim me acrescente, se a cabeça de Eliseu filho de Safate restar sobre ele hoje.
Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.
32 Estava naquele tempo Eliseu sentado em sua casa, e com ele estavam sentados os anciãos: e o rei enviou a ele um homem. Mas antes que o mensageiro viesse a ele, disse ele aos anciãos: Não vistes como este homicida me envia a tirar a cabeça?
But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See all of you how this son of a murderer has sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?
33 Ainda estava ele falando com eles, e eis que o mensageiro que descia a ele; e disse: Certamente este mal vem do SENHOR. Para que tenho de esperar mais ao SENHOR?
And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?
