1 Timóteo 5
1 Não repreendas ao idoso asperamente, mas exorta-o como a um pai; aos jovens, como a irmãos;
Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father; the younger men as brothers;
2 às idosas, como a mães; e às moças, como a irmãs, em toda pureza.
the elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, in all purity.
3 Honra as viúvas que são verdadeiramente viúvas.
Honor widows who are widows indeed.
4 Mas, se alguma viúva tiver filhos ou netos, aprendam primeiro a exercer piedade com a sua própria família, e a recompensar os seus pais; porque isso é agradável diante de Deus.
But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety toward their own family and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
5 A que é verdadeiramente viúva e desamparada espera em Deus, e persevera noite e dia em rogos e orações.
Now she who is a widow indeed and desolate, has her hope set on God and continues in petitions and prayers night and day.
6 Mas a que se entrega aos prazeres, enquanto vive, está morta.
But she who gives herself to pleasure is dead while she lives.
7 Manda, pois, essas coisas, para que sejam irrepreensíveis.
Also command these things, that they may be without reproach.
8 Porém, se alguém não cuida dos seus, e principalmente dos de sua própria família, negou a fé, e é pior que um incrédulo.
But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
9 A viúva, para ser registrada, não deve ter menos de sessenta anos, e haver sido mulher de um marido.
Let no one be enrolled as a widow under sixty years old, having been the wife of one man,
10 Ela deve ter testemunho de boas obras: se criou filhos, se foi hospitaleira, se lavou os pés dos santos, se socorreu os aflitos, se seguiu toda boa obra.
being approved by good works, if she has brought up children, if she has been hospitable to strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, and if she has diligently followed every good work.
11 Mas não admitas as viúvas jovens; porque, quando têm desejos sensuais contra Cristo, querem se casar;
But refuse younger widows, for when they have grown wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,
12 e têm condenação, por haverem anulado a primeira fé.
having condemnation, because they have rejected their first pledge.
13 E, além disso, também aprendem a andar ociosas de casa em casa; e não somente ociosas, mas também fofoqueiras e curiosas, falando o que não se deve.
Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not.
14 Por isso, quero que as mais jovens se casem, gerem filhos, administrem a casa, [e] não deem nenhuma oportunidade ao adversário de maldizer.
I desire therefore that the younger widows marry, bear children, rule the household, and give no occasion to the adversary for insulting.
15 Pois algumas já se desviaram e seguiram Satanás.
For already some have turned away after Satan.
16 Se alguma crente tem viúvas, que as ajude, e não sobrecarregue a igreja, para que ela possa ajudar as que são de verdade viúvas.
If any man or woman who believes has widows, let them relieve them, and do not let the assembly be burdened, that it might relieve those who are widows indeed.
17 Os presbíteros [ou: anciãos] que lideram bem sejam estimados como dignos de honra dobrada, principalmente os que trabalham na palavra e na doutrina.
Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.
18 Pois a Escritura diz: “Ao boi que debulha não atarás a boca”; e: “o trabalhador é digno do seu salário”.
For the Scripture says, “You shall not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain.” And, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”
19 Não aceites acusação contra um presbítero, a não ser com duas ou três testemunhas.
Do not receive an accusation against an elder except at the word of two or three witnesses.
20 Aos que pecarem, repreende-os na presença de todos, para que os outros também tenham temor.
Those who sin, reprove in the sight of all, that the rest also may be in fear.
21 Ordeno-te, diante de Deus, de Cristo Jesus, e dos anjos escolhidos, que guardes essas coisas sem preconceitos, fazendo nada por favoritismo.
I command you in the sight of God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the chosen angels, that you observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.
22 A ninguém imponhas as mãos apressadamente, nem participes dos pecados alheios; conserva-te puro.
Lay hands hastily on no one. Do not be a participant in other people’s sins. Keep yourself pure.
23 Não bebas mais [somente] água, mas usa [também] de um pouco de vinho, por causa do teu estômago, e das tuas frequentes enfermidades.
Be no longer a drinker of water only, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent infirmities.
24 Os pecados de algumas pessoas são evidentes antes mesmo do juízo, mas os de algumas são manifestos depois.
Some men’s sins are evident, preceding them to judgment, and some also follow later.
25 Semelhantemente, também, as boas obras são evidentes; e as que não são assim não se podem esconder.
In the same way also there are good works that are obvious, and those that are otherwise cannot be hidden.
