1 Timóteo 3
1 [Esta] palavra [é] fiel: se alguém deseja ser bispo, deseja uma excelente obra.
This is a true saying: If any desires the office of a bishop, he desires a good work.
2 É dever, portanto, que o bispo seja irrepreensível, marido de uma mulher, sóbrio, comedido, decente, hospitaleiro, apto para ensinar;
A bishop, then, must be blameless, the husband of one wife, watchful, soberminded, modest, hospitable, able to teach,
3 Não dado ao vinho, não violento, mas sim moderado, não briguento, não cobiçoso por dinheiro;
not fond of wine, not quarrelsome, not one who makes money by base means; but gentle, not contentious, not covetous;
4 que governe bem a sua própria casa, e tenha os [seus] filhos em submissão com toda dignidade.
one that rules his own house well; having his children in subjection with all gravity:
5 (Pois, se alguém não sabe governar a sua própria casa, como cuidará da igreja de Deus?)
for if a man knows not how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?
6 Não um novo convertido; para que não se torne arrogante, e caia na condenação do diabo.
Not a new convert, lest, having become conceited, he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 É dever também que tenha bom testemunho dos que estão de fora, para que não caia em reprovação pública e na cilada do diabo.
Further, he must have a good reputation from those who are without, lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 De maneira semelhante, os diáconos sejam de boa conduta, não contraditórios, não dados a muito vinho, não cobiçosos de ganho desonesto,
The deacons, likewise, must be grave, not double-tongued, not given to much wine, not makers of money by base means,
9 mas mantenham o mistério da fé em consciência pura.
holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 E também esses sejam primeiro testados, depois sirvam, se forem irrepreensíveis.
And let these also be first proved, then let them become deacons, being blameless.
11 De semelhante maneira, as mulheres [sejam] de boa conduta, não maldizentes, sóbrias, [e] fiéis em todas as coisas.
Their wives likewise must be grave, not slanderers, watchful, faithful in all things.
12 Os diáconos sejam maridos de uma mulher, e governem bem os filhos e as suas próprias casas.
Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13 Pois os que servirem bem obtêm para si uma posição honrosa e muita confiança na fé que há em Cristo Jesus.
For those who have filled the office of a deacon well, gain for themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.
14 Escrevo-te essas coisas esperando ir a ti em breve;
I write these things to you, hoping to come to you shortly;
15 mas, seu eu demorar, para que saibais como se deve comportar na casa de Deus, que é a igreja do Deus vivo, a coluna e o alicerce da verdade.
but if I delay, that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and support of the truth.
16 E, sem dúvida nenhuma, grande é o mistério da devoção divina: Ele foi revelado em carne, justificado em Espírito, visto pelos anjos, pregado aos gentios, crido no mundo, e recebido acima em glória.
And confessedly great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in flesh, justified in spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.
