1 Samuel 21

1 E veio Davi a Nobe, a Aimeleque sacerdote: e surpreendeu-se Aimeleque de seu encontro, e disse-lhe: Como tu somente, e ninguém contigo?

Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest; and Ahimelech came to meet David trembling, and said unto him: 'Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?'

2 E respondeu Davi ao sacerdote Aimeleque: O rei me encomendou um negócio, e me disse: Ninguém saiba coisa alguma deste negócio a que eu te envio, e que eu te mandei; e eu assinalei aos criados certo lugar.

And David said unto Ahimelech the priest: 'The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me: Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee; and the young men have I appointed to such and such a place.

3 Agora, pois, o que tens à mão? Dá-me cinco pães, ou o que se achar.

Now therefore what is under thy hand? five loaves of bread? give them in my hand, or whatsoever there is present.'

4 E o sacerdote respondeu a Davi, e disse: Não tenho pão comum à mão; somente tenho pão sagrado: mas o darei se os criados se abstiveram de mulheres.

And the priest answered David, and said: 'There is no common bread under my hand, but there is holy bread; if only the young men have kept themselves from women.'

5 E Davi respondeu ao sacerdote, e disse-lhe: Certamente as mulheres nos foram afastadas desde anteontem quando saí, e os instrumentos dos moços foram santos, ainda que a jornada seja comum; quanto mais que hoje haverá outro pão santificado nos vasos.

And David answered the priest, and said unto him: 'Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days; when I came out, the vessels of the young men were holy, though it was but a common journey; how much more then to-day, when there shall be holy bread in their vessels?'

6 Assim o sacerdote lhe deu o pão sagrado, porque ali não havia outro pão que os pães da proposição, os quais haviam sido tirados de diante do SENHOR, para que se pusessem pães quentes o dia que os outros foram tirados.

So the priest gave him holy bread; for there was no bread there but the showbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away. —

7 Aquele dia estava ali um dos servos de Saul detido diante do SENHOR, o nome do qual era Doegue, edomita, principal dos pastores de Saul.

Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul. —

8 E Davi disse a Aimeleque: Não tens aqui à mão lança ou espada? Porque não tomei em minha mão minha espada nem minhas armas, porquanto o mandamento do rei era urgente.

And David said unto Ahimelech: 'And is there peradventure here under thy hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste.'

9 E o sacerdote respondeu: A espada de Golias o filisteu, que tu venceste no vale de Elá, está aqui embrulhada em um véu detrás do éfode: se tu queres tomá-la, toma-a: porque aqui não há outra a não ser essa. E disse Davi: Nenhuma como ela: dá-a a mim.

And the priest said: 'The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the vale of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod; if thou wilt take that, take it; for there is no other save that here.' And David said: 'There is none like that; give it me.'

10 E levantando-se Davi aquele dia, fugiu da presença de Saul, e veio a Aquis rei de Gate.

And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

11 E os servos de Aquis lhe disseram: Não é este Davi, o rei da terra? Não é este a quem cantavam em danças, dizendo: Feriu Saul seus milhares, E Davi seus dez milhares?

And the servants of Achish said unto him: 'Is not this David the king of the land? Did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying: Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?'

12 E Davi pôs em seu coração estas palavras, e teve grande temor de Aquis rei de Gate.

And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

13 E mudou sua fala diante deles, e fingiu-se de louco entre suas mãos, e riscava nas entradas das portas, deixando escorrer sua saliva por sua barba.

And he changed his demeanour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

14 E disse Aquis a seus servos: Eis que estais vendo um homem demente; por que o trouxestes a mim?

Then said Achish unto his servants: 'Lo, when ye see a man that is mad, wherefore do ye bring him to me?

15 Faltam a mim loucos, para que trouxésseis este que fizesse de louco diante de mim? havia de vir este à minha casa?

Do I lack madmen, that ye have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?'
