1 Samuel 16
1 E disse o SENHOR a Samuel: Até quando hás tu de chorar por Saul, havendo-o eu rejeitado para que não reine sobre Israel? Enche teu chifre de azeite, e vem, te enviarei a Jessé de Belém: porque de seus filhos me provi de rei.
And the LORD said unto Samuel: 'How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from being king over Israel? fill thy horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite; for I have provided Me a king among his sons.'
2 E disse Samuel: Como irei? Se Saul o entender, me matará. O SENHOR respondeu: Toma contigo uma bezerra das vacas, e dize: A sacrificar ao SENHOR vim.
And Samuel said: 'How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me.' And the LORD said: 'Take a heifer with thee, and say: I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.
3 E chama a Jessé ao sacrifício, e eu te ensinarei o que hás de fazer; e ungirás a mim ao que eu te disser.
And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will tell thee what thou shalt do; and thou shalt anoint unto Me him whom I name unto thee.'
4 Fez pois Samuel como lhe disse o SENHOR: e logo que ele chegou a Belém, os anciãos da cidade lhe saíram a receber com medo, e disseram: É pacífica tua vinda?
And Samuel did that which the LORD spoke, and came to Beth-lehem. And the elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said: 'Comest thou peaceably?'
5 E ele respondeu: Sim, venho a sacrificar ao SENHOR; santificai-vos, e vinde comigo ao sacrifício. E santificando ele a Jessé e a seus filhos, chamou-os ao sacrifício.
And he said: 'Peaceably; I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD; sanctify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.' And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6 E aconteceu que quando eles vieram, ele viu a Eliabe, e disse: De certo diante do SENHOR está seu ungido.
And it came to pass, when they were come, that he beheld Eliab, and said: 'Surely the LORD'S anointed is before Him.'
7 E o SENHOR respondeu a Samuel: Não olhes à sua aparência, nem à sua grande estatura, porque eu o rejeito; porque o SENHOR olha não o que o homem olha; pois que o homem olha o que está diante de seus olhos, mas o SENHOR olha o coração.
But the LORD said unto Samuel: 'Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have rejected him; for it is not as man seeth: for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.'
8 Então chamou Jessé a Abinadabe, e fez-lhe passar diante de Samuel, o qual disse: nem a este o SENHOR escolheu.
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said: 'Neither hath the LORD chosen this.'
9 Fez logo passar Jessé a Samá. E ele disse: Tampouco a este o SENHOR escolheu.
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said: 'Neither hath the LORD chosen this.'
10 E Jessé fez passar seus sete filhos diante de Samuel; mas Samuel disse a Jessé: o SENHOR não escolheu a estes.
And Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'The LORD hath not chosen these.'
11 Então disse Samuel a Jessé: Acabaram-se os moços? E ele respondeu: Ainda resta o mais novo, que apascenta as ovelhas. E disse Samuel a Jessé: Envia por ele, porque não nos assentaremos à mesa até que ele venha aqui.
And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'Are here all thy children?' And he said: 'There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep.' And Samuel said unto Jesse: 'Send and fetch him; for we will not sit down till he come hither.'
12 Enviou, pois, por ele, e introduziu-o; o qual era ruivo, de bela aparência e de belo aspecto. Então o SENHOR disse: Levanta-te e unge-o, que este é.
And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of beautiful eyes, and goodly to look upon. And the LORD said: 'Arise, anoint him; for this is he.'
13 E Samuel tomou o chifre do azeite, e ungiu-o dentre seus irmãos: e desde aquele dia em diante o espírito do SENHOR tomou a Davi. Levantou-se logo Samuel, e voltou-se a Ramá.
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren; and the spirit of the LORD came mightily upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
14 E o espírito do SENHOR se afastou de Saul, e atormentava-lhe o espírito mau da parte do SENHOR.
Now the spirit of the LORD had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD terrified him.
15 E os criados de Saul lhe disseram: Eis que agora, que o espírito mau da parte de Deus te atormenta.
And Saul's servants said unto him: 'Behold now, an evil spirit from God terrifieth thee.
16 Diga, pois, nosso senhor a teus servos que estão diante de ti, que busquem alguém que saiba tocar a harpa; para que quando for sobre ti o espírito mau da parte de Deus, ele toque com sua mão, e tenhas alívio.
Let our lord now command thy servants, that are before thee, to seek out a man who is a skilful player on the harp; and it shall be, when the evil spirit from God cometh upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.'
17 E Saul respondeu a seus criados: Buscai-me pois agora algum que toque bem, e traze-o a mim.
And Saul said unto his servants: 'Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.'
18 Então um dos criados respondeu, dizendo: Eis que eu vi a um filho de Jessé de Belém, que sabe tocar, e é valente e vigoroso, e homem de guerra, prudente em suas palavras, e belo, e o SENHOR é com ele.
Then answered one of the young men, and said: 'Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite, that is skilful in playing, and a mighty man of valour, and a man of war, and prudent in affairs, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.'
19 E Saul enviou mensageiros a Jessé, dizendo: Envia-me a Davi teu filho, o que está com as ovelhas.
Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said: 'Send me David thy son, who is with the sheep.'
20 E tomou Jessé um asno carregado de pão, e uma vasilha de vinho e um cabrito, e enviou-o a Saul por meio de Davi seu filho.
And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
21 E vindo Davi a Saul, esteve diante dele: e amou-o ele muito, e foi feito seu escudeiro.
And David came to Saul, and stood before him; and he loved him greatly; and he became his armour-bearer.
22 E Saul enviou a dizer a Jessé: Eu te rogo que esteja Davi comigo; porque achou graça em meus olhos.
And Saul sent to Jesse, saying: 'Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.'
23 E quando o espírito mau da parte de Deus era sobre Saul, Davi tomava a harpa, e tocava com sua mão; e Saul tinha refrigério, e estava melhor, e o espírito mau se afastava dele.
And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp, and played with his hand; so Saul found relief, and it was well with him, and the evil spirit departed from him.
