1 Reis 20
1 Então Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, juntou a todo seu exército, e com ele trinta e dois reis, com cavalos e carros: e subiu, e pôs cerco a Samaria, e combateu-a.
Ben Hadad the king of Aram gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots: and he went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
2 E enviou mensageiros à cidade a Acabe rei de Israel, dizendo:
He sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, "Thus says Ben Hadad,
3 Assim disse Ben-Hadade: Tua prata e teu ouro são meus, e tuas mulheres e teus filhos belos são meus.
'Your silver and your gold is mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.'"
4 E o rei de Israel respondeu, e disse: Como tu dizes, rei senhor meu, eu sou teu, e tudo o que tenho.
The king of Israel answered, "It is according to your saying, my lord, O king. I am yours, and all that I have."
5 E voltando os mensageiros outra vez, disseram: Assim disse Ben-Hadade: Eu te enviei a dizer: Tua prata e teu ouro, e tuas mulheres e teus filhos me darás.
The messengers came again, and said, "Ben Hadad says, 'I sent indeed to you, saying, "You shall deliver me your silver, and your gold, and your wives, and your children;
6 Além disso, amanhã a estas horas enviarei eu a ti meus servos, os quais vasculharão a tua casa, e as casas de teus servos; e tomarão com suas mãos, e levarão tudo o que for precioso que tiveres.
but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house, and the houses of your servants; and it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in their eyes, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away."'"
7 Então o rei de Israel chamou a todos os anciãos da terra, e disse-lhes: Entendei, e vede agora como este não busca a não ser mal: pois que enviou a mim por minhas mulheres e meus filhos, e por minha prata e por meu ouro; e eu não se o neguei.
Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, "Please notice how this man seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives, and for my children, and for my silver, and for my gold; and I did not deny him."
8 E todos os anciãos e todo o povo lhe responderam: Não lhe obedeças, nem faças o que te pede.
All the elders and all the people said to him, "Do not listen, neither consent."
9 Então ele respondeu aos embaixadores de Ben-Hadade: Dizei ao rei meu senhor: Farei tudo o que mandaste a teu servo ao princípio; mas isto não posso fazer. E os embaixadores foram, e deram-lhe a resposta.
Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben Hadad, "Tell my lord the king, 'All that you sent for to your servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do.'" The messengers departed, and brought him back the message.
10 E Ben-Hadade converteu a enviar-lhe a dizer: Assim me façam os deuses, e assim me acrescentem, que o pó de Samaria não bastará aos punhos de todo o povo que me segue.
Ben Hadad sent to him, and said, "The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me."
11 E o rei de Israel respondeu, e disse: Dizei-lhe, que não se glorie o que se cinge, como o que já se descinge.
The king of Israel answered, "Tell him, 'Do not let him who puts on his armor brag like he who takes it off.'"
12 E quando ele ouviu esta palavra, estando bebendo com os reis nas tendas, disse a seus servos: Ponde. E eles puseram contra a cidade.
It happened, when Ben Hadad heard this message, as he was drinking, he and the kings, in the pavilions, that he said to his servants, "Prepare to attack." They prepared to attack the city.
13 E eis que um profeta se chegou a Acabe rei de Israel; e lhe disse: Assim disse o SENHOR: Viste esta grande multidão? Eis que eu a entregarei hoje em tua mão, para que conheças que eu sou o SENHOR.
Look, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, "Thus says the LORD, 'Have you seen all this great multitude? Look, I will deliver it into your hand this day; and you shall know that I am the LORD.'"
14 E respondeu Acabe: Por meio de quem? E ele disse: Assim disse o SENHOR: Por meio dos criados dos príncipes das províncias. E disse Acabe: Quem começará a batalha? E ele respondeu: Tu.
Ahab said, "By whom?" He said, "Thus says the LORD, 'By the young men of the governors of the districts.'" Then he said, "Who shall begin the battle?" He answered, "You."
15 Então ele revistou os criados dos príncipes das províncias, os quais foram duzentos trinta e dois. Em seguida revistou todo o povo, todos os filhos de Israel, que foram sete mil.
Then he mustered the young men of the governors of the districts, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.
16 E saíram a meio dia. E estava Ben-Hadade bebendo, embriagado nas tendas, ele e os reis, os trinta e dois reis que haviam vindo em sua ajuda.
They went out at noon. But Ben Hadad was drinking himself drunk in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who helped him.
17 E os criados dos príncipes das províncias saíram os primeiros. E havia Ben-Hadade enviado quem lhe deu aviso, dizendo: Saíram homens de Samaria.
the young men of the governors of the districts went out first; and Ben Hadad sent out, and they told him, saying, "Men are coming out from Samaria."
18 Ele então disse: Se saíram por paz, tomai-os vivos; e se saíram para lutar, tomai-os vivos.
He said, "If they have come out for peace, take them alive; or if they have come out for war, take them alive."
19 Saíram, pois da cidade os criados dos príncipes das províncias, e após eles o exército.
So these went out of the city, the young men of the governors of the districts, and the army which followed them.
20 E feriu cada um ao que vinha contra si: e fugiram os sírios, seguindo-os os de Israel. E o rei da Síria, Ben-Hadade, se escapou em um cavalo com alguma gente de cavalaria.
They each killed his man. The Arameans fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Aram escaped on a horse with horsemen.
21 E saiu o rei de Israel, e feriu a cavaleiros, e os carros; e derrotou os sírios com grande estrago.
The king of Israel went out, and struck the horses and chariots, and killed the Arameans with a great slaughter.
22 Chegando-se logo o profeta ao rei de Israel, lhe disse: Vai, fortalece-te, e considera e olha o que hás de fazer; porque passado o ano, o rei da Síria há de vir contra ti.
The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, "Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Aram will come up against you."
23 E os servos do rei da Síria lhe disseram: seus deuses são deuses dos montes, por isso nos venceram; mas se lutássemos com eles na planície, se verá se não os vencemos.
The servants of the king of Aram said to him, "Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.
24 Faze, pois assim: Tira aos reis cada um de seu posto, e põe capitães em lugar deles.
Do this thing: take the kings away, every man out of his place, and put captains in their place.
25 E tu, forma-te outro exército como o exército que perdeste, cavalos por cavalos, e carros por carros; logo lutaremos com eles em campo raso, e veremos se não os vencemos. E ele lhes deu ouvido, e o fez assim.
Muster an army, like the army that you have lost, horse for horse, and chariot for chariot. We will fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than them." He listened to their voice, and did so.
26 Passado o ano, Ben-Hadade revistou os sírios, e veio a Afeque a lutar contra Israel.
It happened at the return of the year, that Ben Hadad mustered the Arameans, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
27 E os filhos de Israel foram também inspecionados, e tomando provisões foram-lhes ao encontro; e assentaram acampamento os filhos de Israel diante deles, como dois pequenos rebanhos de cabras; e os sírios enchiam a terra.
The children of Israel were mustered, and were provisioned, and went against them. The children of Israel camped before them like two little flocks of young goats; but the Arameans filled the country.
28 Chegando-se então o homem de Deus ao rei de Israel, falou-lhe dizendo: Assim disse o SENHOR: Porquanto os sírios disseram, o SENHOR é Deus dos montes, não Deus dos vales, eu entregarei toda esta grande multidão em tua mão, para que conheçais que eu sou o SENHOR.
A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because the Arameans have said, "The LORD is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys"; therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.'"
29 Sete dias tiveram assentado o acampamento uns diante dos outros, e ao sétimo dia começou a batalha: e mataram os filhos de Israel dos sírios em um dia cem mil homens a pé.
They camped one over against the other seven days. So it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand footmen of the Arameans in one day.
30 Os demais fugiram a Afeque, à cidade: e o muro caiu sobre vinte e sete mil homens que haviam restado. Também Ben-Hadade veio fugindo à cidade, e escondia-se de câmara em câmara.
But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.
31 Então seus servos lhe disseram: Eis que, ouvimos dos reis da casa de Israel que são reis clementes: ponhamos, pois, agora sacos em nossos lombos, e cordas em nossas cabeças, e saiamos ao rei de Israel: porventura te salvará a vida.
His servants said to him, "See now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please let us put sackcloth on our bodies, and ropes on our heads, and go out to the king of Israel. Maybe he will save your life."
32 Cingiram, pois seus lombos de sacos, e cordas a suas cabeças, e vieram ao rei de Israel, e disseram-lhe: Teu servo Ben-Hadade disse: Rogo-te que viva minha alma. E ele respondeu: Se ele vive ainda, meu irmão é.
So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, "Your servant Ben Hadad says, 'Please let me live.'" He said, "Is he still alive? He is my brother."
33 Isto tomaram aqueles homens por bom presságio, e logo tomaram esta palavra de sua boca, e disseram: Teu irmão Ben-Hadade! E ele disse: Ide, e trazei-lhe. Ben-Hadade então se apresentou a Acabe, e ele lhe fez subir em um carro.
Now the men were looking for an omen, and they seized upon it from him, and they said, "Ben Hadad is your brother." Then he said, "Go, bring him." Then Ben Hadad came out to him, and he had him come up into the chariot.
34 E disse-lhe Ben-Hadade: As cidades que meu pai tomou ao teu, eu as restituirei; e faze praças em Damasco para ti, como meu pai as fez em Samaria. E eu, disse Acabe, te deixarei partir com esta aliança. Fez, pois com ele aliança, e deixou-lhe ir.
Ben Hadad said to him, "The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria." "I," said Ahab, "will let you go with this covenant." So he made a covenant with him, and let him go.
35 Então um homem dos filhos dos profetas disse a seu companheiro por palavra de Deus: Fere-me agora. Mas o outro homem não quis ferir-lhe.
A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the word of the LORD, "Please strike me." The man refused to strike him.
36 E ele lhe disse: Porquanto não obedeceste à palavra do SENHOR, eis que em apartando-te de mim, te ferirá um leão. E quando se separou dele, encontrou-lhe um leão, e feriu-lhe.
Then he said to him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, look, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall kill you." As soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him.
37 Encontrou-se logo com outro homem, e disse-lhe: Fere-me agora. E o homem lhe deu um golpe, e fez-lhe uma ferida.
Then he found another man, and said, "Please strike me." The man struck him, smiting and wounding him.
38 E o profeta se foi, e pôs-se diante do rei no caminho, e disfarçou-se com um véu sobre os olhos.
So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes.
39 E quando o rei passava, ele deu vozes ao rei, e disse: Teu servo saiu entre a tropa: e eis que um, que estava a sair, trouxe-me um homem, dizendo: Guarda a este homem, e se ele vier a faltar, tua vida será pela dele, ou pagarás um talento de prata.
As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said, "Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and look, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, 'Guard this man. If by any means he be missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.'
40 E quando o teu servo estava ocupado à uma parte e à outra, ele desapareceu. Então o rei de Israel lhe disse: Essa será tua sentença: tu a pronunciaste.
As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone." The king of Israel said to him, "So your judgment shall be; you yourself have decided it."
41 Porém ele se tirou logo o véu de sobre seus olhos, e o rei de Israel conheceu que era dos profetas.
He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was of the prophets.
42 E ele lhe disse: Assim disse o SENHOR: Porquanto soltaste da mão o homem de meu anátema, tua vida será pela sua, e teu povo pelo seu.
He said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.'"
43 E o rei de Israel se foi a sua casa triste e irritado, e chegou a Samaria.
The king of Israel went to his house sullen and angry, and came to Samaria.
