1 Coríntios 8
1 E quanto às coisas sacrificadas aos ídolos, sabemos que todos temos conhecimento. O conhecimento incha [de orgulho], mas o amor edifica.
NOW concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.
2 E se alguém acha saber alguma coisa, ainda nada conhece como se deve conhecer.
But if any man conceit that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
3 Mas se alguém ama a Deus, o tal dele é conhecido.
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
4 Portanto, quanto ao comer das coisas sacrificadas aos ídolos: sabemos que o ídolo nada é no mundo, e que não há qualquer outro Deus, a não ser um.
Now concerning eating things sacrificed unto idols: we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.
5 Porque, ainda que também haja [alguns] que se chamem deuses, seja no céu, seja na terra (como há muitos deuses e muitos senhores),
For though there are gods so called, whether celestial or terrestrial, (as of this sort there are gods many, and lords many; )
6 Todavia para nós há [só] um Deus, o Pai, do qual [são] todas as coisas, e nós para ele; e um [só] Senhor Jesus Cristo, pelo qual [são] todas as coisas, e nós por ele.
but to us there is one God, the Father; of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
7 Mas não há em todos [este] conhecimento; porém alguns até agora comem com consciência do ídolo, como se [fossem] sacrificadas aos ídolos; e sendo sua consciência fraca, fica contaminada.
Howbeit there is not in all men this knowledge; but some having conscientious respect for the idol to this moment, eat the meat as sacrificed to the idol; and their conscience being weak, is defiled.
8 Ora, a comida não nos faz agradáveis a Deus. Porque seja o que comamos, nada temos de mais; e seja o que não comamos, nada nos falta.
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither if we eat are we the better, or if we eat not are we the worse.
9 Mas tomai cuidado para que esta vossa liberdade não seja de maneira alguma escândalo para os fracos.
But take heed that this power of yours become not an occasion of stumbling to the weak.
10 Porque se alguém vir a ti, que tens [este] conhecimento, sentado [à mesa] no templo dos ídolos, não será a consciência do que é fraco induzida a comer das coisas sacrificadas aos ídolos?
For if any man see thee that hast knowledge, sitting in an idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?
11 E por causa de teu conhecimento, perecerá assim o irmão fraco, pelo qual Cristo morreu?
And the weak brother will be destroyed by thy knowledge, for whom Christ died.
12 Assim que, pecando contra os irmãos e ferindo sua fraca consciência, pecais contra Cristo.
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
