Tito 1
1 Paulo, servo de Deus, e apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, segundo a fé dos eleitos de Deus, e o conhecimento da verdade, que é segundo a piedade,
Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledgement of the truth, which is according to godliness;
2 Em esperança da vida eterna, a qual Deus, que não pode mentir, prometeu antes dos tempos dos séculos; (aiōnios g166)
in hope of eternal life, which God, who can not lie, promised be fore the times of the ages, (aiōnios g166)
3 Mas a seu tempo manifestou a sua palavra pela pregação que me é confiada segundo o mandamento de Deus, nosso Salvador;
but he has in his own times manifested his word by preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;
4 A Tito, verdadeiro filho, segundo a fé comum, graça, misericórdia, e paz da parte de Deus Pai, e da do Senhor Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador.
to Titus, my true son, according to the common faith: grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.
5 Por esta causa te deixei em Creta, para que pusesses em boa ordem as coisas que ainda restam, e de cidade em cidade estabelecesses anciãos, como já te mandei:
I left you in Crete for this purpose, that you might set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I commanded you:
6 Aquele que for irrepreensível, marido de uma mulher, que tenha filhos fieis, que não possam ser acusados de dissolução ou desobedientes.
if any one is blameless, the husband of one wife, if he has faithful children that are not accused of riotous living, or disobedient.
7 Porque convém que o bispo seja irrepreensível, como dispenseiro da casa de Deus, não soberbo, nem iracundo, nem violento, nem espancador, nem cobiçoso de torpe ganância;
For the bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not self-willed, not passionate, not fond of wine, not quarrelsome, not one who makes money by base means;
8 Mas dado à hospitalidade, amante dos bons, moderado, justo, santo, continente;
but hospitable, a lover of goodness, sober-minded, just, holy, temperate,
9 Retendo firme a fiel palavra, que é conforme a doutrina, para que seja poderoso, assim para admoestar com a sã doutrina, como para convencer aos contradizentes.
holding fast the sure word as it is taught, that he may be able, by sound teaching, both to exhort and to convince the opposers.
10 Porque também há muitos desordenados, faladores de vaidades, e enganadores, principalmente os da circuncisão,
For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
11 Aos quais convém tapar a boca; os que transtornam casas inteiras ensinando o que não convém, por torpe ganância.
whose mouths must be stopped: these subvert whole houses by teaching, for the sake of base gain, things which they ought not to teach.
12 Um deles, seu próprio profeta, disse: Os cretenses são sempre mentirosos, bestas ruins, ventres preguiçosos.
One of themselves, a prophet of their own, has said: The Cretans are always liars, evil wild beasts, lazy gluttons.
13 Este testemunho é verdadeiro. Portanto repreende-os severamente, para que sejam sãos na fé:
This testimony is true; wherefore rebuke them severely, that they may be sound in the faith,
14 Não dando ouvidos às fábulas judaicas, e aos mandamentos de homens que se desviam da verdade.
and not give heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men that turn away from the truth.
15 Todas as coisas são puras para os puros, mas nada é puro para os contaminados e infieis: antes o seu entendimento e consciência estão contaminados.
To the pure, all things are pure: but to the denied and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but their mind and their conscience are denied.
16 Confessam que conhecem a Deus, porém o negam com as obras, sendo abomináveis, e desobedientes, e reprovados para toda a boa obra.
They profess that they know God, but in their works they deny him, being detestable and disobedient, and, as it respects every good work, rejected.
