Romanos 7
1 Não sabeis vós, irmãos (pois que falo aos que sabem a lei), que a lei tem domínio sobre o homem por todo o tempo que vive?
Do you not know, brothers (for I am speaking to those who know the law), that the law has dominion over a person only as long as he lives?
2 Porque a mulher que está sujeita ao marido, enquanto ele viver, está-lhe ligada pela lei; porém, morto o marido, está livre da lei do marido.
For a married woman is bound by the law to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law concerning her husband.
3 De sorte que, vivendo o marido, será chamada adúltera, se for de outro marido; porém, morto o marido, livre está da lei, de maneira que não será adúltera, se for de outro marido
So then, she will be called an adulteress if she is joined to another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and is not committing adultery if she is joined to another man.
4 Assim que, meus irmãos, também vós estais mortos para a lei pelo corpo de Cristo, para que sejais de outro, daquele que resuscitou de entre os mortos, a fim de que demos fruto para Deus.
So then, my brothers, you also were put to death with respect to the law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, so that we might bear fruit for God.
5 Porque, quando estávamos na carne, as paixões dos pecados, que são pela lei, obravam em nossos membros para darem fruto para a morte.
For when we were in the flesh, our sinful passions, which were aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit leading to death.
6 Mas agora estamos livres da lei, estando mortos para aquilo em que estávamos retidos; para que sirvamos em novidade de espírito, e não na velhice da letra.
But now we have been released from the law, having died to that by which we were held, so that we may serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.
7 Que diremos pois? É a lei pecado? De modo nenhum: mas eu não conheceria o pecado senão pela lei; porque eu não conheceria a concupiscência, se a lei não dissesse: Não cobiçaras.
What then shall we say? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Yet I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness if the law had not said, “Yoʋ shall not covet.”
8 Mas o pecado, tomando ocasião pelo mandamento, obrou em mim toda a concupiscência, porque sem a lei estava morto o pecado.
But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetousness. For apart from the law sin is dead.
9 E eu, em algum tempo, vivia sem lei, mas, vindo o mandamento, reviveu o pecado, e eu morri;
Once I was alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came to life and I died.
10 E o mandamento que era para vida esse achei que me era para morte.
So I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.
11 Porque o pecado, tomando ocasião pelo mandamento, me enganou, e por ele me matou.
For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.
12 Assim que a lei é santa, e o mandamento santo, justo e bom.
So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.
13 Logo tornou-se-me o bom em morte? De modo nenhum; mas o pecado, para que se mostrasse pecado, operou em mim a morte pelo bem; a fim de que pelo mandamento o pecado se fizesse excessivamente pecaminoso.
Has that then which is good brought death to me? Certainly not! But sin, so that it would be shown to be sin, produced death in me through that which is good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
14 Porque bem sabemos que a lei é espiritual: mas eu sou carnal, vendido sob o pecado.
For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am of the flesh, sold as a slave to sin.
15 Porque o que faço não o aprovo; pois o que quero isso não faço, mas o que aborreço isso faço
I do not understand what I do. Instead of doing what I want to do, I do the very thing I hate.
16 E, se faço o que não quero, consinto com a lei, que é boa.
Now if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.
17 De maneira que agora já não sou eu que faço isto, mas o pecado que habita em mim.
But now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
18 Porque eu sei que em mim, isto é, na minha carne, não habita bem algum: porque o querer está em mim, mas não consigo efetuar o bem
For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. I have the desire to do what is right, but I find that the ability to carry it out is lacking.
19 Porque não faço o bem que quero, mas o mal que não quero esse faço.
For I do not do the good that I want to do, but I do the very evil that I do not want to do.
20 Ora, se eu faço o que não quero, já o não faço eu, mas o pecado que habita em mim.
Now if I do the very thing I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 De sorte que acho esta lei em mim; que, quando quero fazer o bem, o mal está comigo.
I find then the law that when I want to do what is right, evil is present with me.
22 Porque, segundo o homem interior, tenho prazer na lei de Deus;
For I delight in the law of God in my inner being,
23 Mas vejo nos meus membros outra lei, que batalha contra a lei do meu entendimento, e me prende debaixo da lei do pecado que está nos meus membros.
but I see another law at work in my members, warring against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner to the law of sin that is in my members.
24 Miserável homem que eu sou! quem me livrará do corpo desta morte?
Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death?
25 Dou graças a Deus por Jesus Cristo nosso Senhor. Assim que eu mesmo com o entendimento sirvo à lei de Deus, mas com a carne à lei do pecado.
I thank God that he will do so through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
