Provérbios 30
1 Palavras de Agur, filho de Jake, a profecia: disse este varão a Ithiel; a Ithiel e a Ucal:
The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
2 Na verdade que eu sou mais brutal do que ninguém, não tenho o entendimento do homem.
Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.
3 Nem aprendi a sabedoria, nem conheci o conhecimento dos santos.
I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
4 Quem subiu ao céu e desceu? quem encerrou os ventos nos seus punhos? quem amarrou as águas num pano? quem estabeleceu todas as extremidades da terra? qual é o seu nome? e qual é o nome de seu filho? se é que o sabes?
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
5 Toda a palavra de Deus é pura; escudo é para os que confiam nele.
Every word of Eloah is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Nada acrescentes às suas palavras, para que não te repreenda e sejas achado mentiroso.
Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
7 Duas coisas te pedi; não mas negues, antes que morra:
Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:
8 Alonga de mim a vaidade e a palavra mentirosa; não me dês nem a pobreza nem a riqueza: mantem-me do pão da minha porção acostumada.
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
9 Para que porventura de farto te não negue, e diga: Quem é o Senhor? ou que, empobrecendo, não venha a furtar, e lance mão do nome de Deus.
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is YHWH? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my Elohim in vain.
10 Não calunies o servo diante de seu senhor, para que te não amaldiçoe e fiques culpado.
Accuse not a servant unto his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
11 Há uma geração que amaldiçoa a seu pai, e que não bendiz a sua mãe
There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
12 Há uma geração que é pura aos seus olhos, e que nunca foi lavada da sua imundícia.
There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
13 Há uma geração cujos olhos são altivos, e as suas pálpebras levantadas para cima.
There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
14 Há uma geração cujos dentes são espadas, e cujos queixais são facas, para consumirem da terra os aflitos, e os necessitados dentre os homens.
There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
15 A sanguesuga tem duas filhas, a saber: Dá, Dá. Estas três coisas nunca se fartam; e quatro nunca dizem: Basta.
The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:
16 A sepultura; a madre estéril; a terra que se não farta d'água; e o fogo nunca diz: Basta. (Sheol h7585)
The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough. (Sheol h7585)
17 Os olhos que zombam do pai, ou desprezam a obediência da mãe, corvos do ribeiro os arrancarão e os pintãos da águia os comerão.
The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
18 Estas três coisas me maravilham; e quatro há que não conheço:
There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
19 O caminho da águia no céu; o caminho da cobra na penha; o caminho do navio no meio do mar; e o caminho do homem com uma virgem.
The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
20 Tal é o caminho da mulher adúltera: ela come, e limpa a sua boca, e diz: Não cometi maldade.
Such is the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
21 Por três coisas se alvoroça a terra: e por quatro, que não pode suportar:
For three things the earth is disquieted, and for four which it cannot bear:
22 Pelo servo, quando reina; e pelo tolo, quando anda farto de pão:
For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with meat;
23 Pela mulher aborrecida, quando se casa; e pela serva, quando ficar herdeira da sua senhora.
For an odious woman when she is married; and an handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
24 Estas quatro coisas são das mais pequenas da terra, porém sabias, bem providas de sabedoria:
There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise:
25 As formigas são um povo impotente; todavia no verão preparam a sua comida:
The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer;
26 Os coelhos são um povo débil; e contudo põem a sua casa na penha:
The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks;
27 Os gafanhotos não tem rei; e contudo todos saem, e em bandos se repartem:
The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
28 A aranha apanha com as mãos, e está nos paços dos reis.
The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.
29 Estas três tem um bom andar, e quatro que passeiam mui bem:
There be three things which go well, yea, four are comely in going:
30 O leão, o mais forte entre os animais, que por ninguém torna atráz:
A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
31 O cavalo de guerra, bem cingido pelos lombos; e o bode; e o rei a quem se não pode resistir.
A greyhound; an he goat also; and a king, against whom there is no rising up.
32 Se obraste loucamente, elevando-te, e se imaginaste o mal, põe a mão na boca.
If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth.
33 Porque o espremer do leite produz manteiga, e o espremer do nariz produz sangue, e o espremer da ira produz contenda.
Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
