Provérbios 20
1 O vinho é escarnecedor, a bebida forte alvoraçadora; e todo aquele que neles errar nunca será sábio.
Wine is a scorner, strong drink is raging; and whoso erreth thereby is not wise.
2 Como o bramido do leão é o terror do rei, o que o provoca a ira peca contra a sua própria alma.
The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion: he that provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3 Honra é do homem desviar-se do pleito, mas todo o tolo se entremete nele.
It is an honour for a man to cease from strife; but every fool rusheth into it.
4 O preguiçoso não lavrará por causa do inverno, pelo que mendigará na sega, porém nada receberá.
The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 Como as águas profundas é o conselho no coração do homem; mas o homem de inteligência o tirará para fora.
Counsel in the heart of man is deep water, and a man of understanding draweth it out.
6 Cada um da multidão dos homens apregoa a sua beneficência; porém o homem fiel, quem é o que o achará?
Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; but a faithful man who shall find?
7 O justo anda na sua sinceridade; bem-aventurados serão os seus filhos depois dele.
The righteous walketh in his integrity: blessed are his children after him!
8 Assentando-se o rei no trono do juízo, com os seus olhos dissipa todo o mal.
A king sitting on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9 Quem pudera dizer: Purifiquei o meu coração, limpo estou de meu pecado!
Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10 Duas sortes de peso, e duas sortes de medida, são abominação ao Senhor, tanto uma como outra.
Divers weights, divers measures, even both of them are abomination to Jehovah.
11 Até a criança se dará a conhecer pelas suas ações, se a sua obra será pura e reta
Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12 O ouvido que ouve, e o olho que vê, o Senhor os fez a ambos.
The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.
13 Não ames o sono, para que não empobreças; abre os teus olhos, e te fartarás de pão
Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14 Nada vale, nada vale, dirá o comprador, mas, indo-se, então se gabará.
Bad! bad! saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15 Há ouro e abundância de rubins, mas os lábios do conhecimento são jóia preciosa.
There is gold, and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a precious Jewel.
16 Quando alguém fica por fiador do estranho, toma-lhe a sua roupa, e o penhora pela estranha.
Take his garment that is become surety [for] another, and hold him in pledge for strangers.
17 Suave é ao homem o pão de mentira, mas depois a sua boca se encherá de pedrinhas de areia.
Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18 Cada pensamento com conselho se confirma, e com conselhos prudentes faze a guerra.
Plans are established by counsel; and with good advice make war.
19 O que anda murmurando descobre o segredo; pelo que com o que afaga com seus beiços não te entremetas.
He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that openeth his lips.
20 O que a seu pai ou a sua mãe amaldiçoar, apagar-se-lhe-á a sua lâmpada em trevas negras.
Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.
21 Adquirindo-se apressadamente a herança no princípio, o seu fim não será bendito.
An inheritance obtained hastily at the beginning will not be blessed in the end.
22 Não digas: vingar-me-ei do mal: espera pelo Senhor, e ele te livrará.
Say not, I will recompense evil: wait on Jehovah, and he shall save thee.
23 Duas sortes de peso são abomináveis ao Senhor, e balanças enganosas não são boas.
Divers weights are an abomination unto Jehovah; and a false balance is not good.
24 Os passos do homem são dirigidos pelo Senhor: o homem, pois, como entenderá o seu caminho?
The steps of a man are from Jehovah; and how can a man understand his own way?
25 Laço é para o homem engulir o que é santo; e, feitos os votos, então inquirir.
It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is hallowed, and after vows to make inquiry.
26 O rei sábio dissipa os ímpios e torna sobre eles a roda.
A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27 A alma do homem é a lâmpada do Senhor, que esquadrinha todo o mais intimo do ventre.
Man's spirit is the lamp of Jehovah, searching all the inner parts of the belly.
28 Benignidade e verdade guardam ao rei, e com benignidade sustem ele o seu trono.
Mercy and truth preserve the king; and he upholdeth his throne by mercy.
29 O ornato dos mancebos é a sua força: e a beleza dos velhos as cãs.
The glory of young men is their strength; and the beauty of old men is the grey head.
30 Os vergões das feridas são a purificação dos maus, como também as pancadas que penetram até o mais intimo do ventre.
Wounding stripes purge away evil, and strokes [purge] the inner parts of the belly.
