Provérbios 18
1 Busca coisas desejáveis aquele que se separa e se entremete em toda a sabedoria.
He that separateth himself seeketh [his] pleasure, he is vehement against all sound wisdom.
2 Não toma prazer o tolo na inteligência, senão em que se descubra o seu coração.
A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.
3 Vindo o ímpio, vem também o desprezo, e com a vergonha a ignomínia.
When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4 águas profundas são as palavras da boca do homem, e ribeiro trasbordante é a fonte da sabedoria.
The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, [and] the fountain of wisdom is a gushing brook.
5 Não é bom ter respeito à pessoa do ímpio para derribar o justo em juízo.
It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to wrong the righteous in judgment.
6 Os beiços do tolo entram na contenda, e a sua boca por acoites brada.
A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.
7 A boca do tolo é a sua própria destruição, e os seus lábios um laço para a sua alma.
A fool's mouth is destruction to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
8 As palavras do assoprador são como doces bocados; e elas descem ao intimo do ventre.
The words of a talebearer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9 Também o negligente na sua obra é irmão do desperdiçador.
He also who is indolent in his work is brother of the destroyer.
10 Torre forte é o nome do Senhor; a ele correrá o justo, e estará em alto retiro.
The name of Jehovah is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11 A fazenda do rico é a cidade da sua fortaleza, e como um muro alto na sua imaginação.
The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as a high wall in his own imagination.
12 Antes de ser quebrantado eleva-se o coração do homem; e diante da honra vai a humildade.
Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; and before honour [goeth] humility.
13 O que responde antes de ouvir, estultícia lhe é, e vergonha.
He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.
14 O espírito do homem sosterá a sua enfermidade, mas ao espírito abatido quem levantará?
The spirit of a man sustaineth his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
15 O coração do entendido adquire o conhecimento, e o ouvido dos sábios busca o conhecimento.
The heart of an intelligent [man] getteth knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16 O presente do homem lhe alarga o caminho e o leva diante dos grandes.
A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17 O que primeiro começa o seu pleito justo é; porém vem o seu companheiro, e o examina.
He that is first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18 A sorte faz cessar os pleitos, e faz separação entre os poderosos.
The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19 O irmão ofendido é mais difícil de conquistar do que uma cidade forte; e as contendas são como os ferrolhos dum palácio.
A brother offended is [harder to be won] than a strong city; and contentions are as the bars of a palace.
20 Do fruto da boca de cada um se fartará o seu ventre: dos renovos dos seus lábios se fartará.
A man's belly is satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips is he satisfied.
21 A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; e aquele que a ama comerá do seu fruto.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22 O que acha mulher acha o bem e alcança a benevolência do Senhor.
Whoso hath found a wife hath found a good thing, and hath obtained favour from Jehovah.
23 O pobre fala com rogos, mas o rico responde com durezas.
He that is poor speaketh with supplications, but the rich answereth roughly.
24 O homem que tem amigos haja-se amigavelmente, e há amigo mais chegado do que um irmão.
A man of [many] friends will come to ruin but there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.
