Números 13
1 E falou o Senhor a Moisés, dizendo:
And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
2 Envia homens que espiem a terra de Canaan, que eu hei de dar aos filhos de Israel; de cada tribo de seus pais enviareis um homem, sendo cada qual maioral entre eles.
Send thou men, that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give to the sons of Israel. From every tribe of their fathers ye shall send a man, each one a ruler among them.
3 E enviou-os Moisés do deserto de Paran, segundo o dito do Senhor; todos aqueles homens eram Cabeças dos filhos de Israel.
And Moses sent them from the wilderness of Paran according to the commandment of Jehovah. All of them men who were heads of the sons of Israel.
4 E estes são os seus nomes: Da tribo de Ruben, Sammua, filho de Saccur,
And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur;
5 Da tribo de Simeão Saphath, filho de Hori;
of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori;
6 Da tribo de Judá, Caleb, filho de Jefoné;
of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh;
7 Da tribo de issacar, Jigeal, filho de José;
of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph;
8 Da tribo de Ephraim, Hosea, filho de Nun;
of the tribe of Ephraim, Hoshea the son of Nun;
9 Da tribo de Benjamin, Palti, filho de Raphu;
of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu;
10 Da tribo de Zebulon, Gaddiel, filho de Sodi;
of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi;
11 Da tribo de José, pela tribo de Manasseh, Gaddi filho de Susi;
of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi;
12 Da tribo de Dan, Ammiel, filho de Gemalli;
of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli;
13 Da tribo de Aser, Sethur, filho de Michael;
of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael;
14 Da tribo de Naphtali, Nabbi, filho de Vophsi;
of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi;
15 Da tribo de Gad, Guel, filho de Machi.
of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
16 Estes são os nomes dos homens que Moisés enviou a espiar aquela terra: e a Hosea, filho de Nun, Moisés chamou Josué.
These are the names of the men that Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hoshea the son of Nun Joshua.
17 Enviou-os pois Moisés a espiar a terra de Canaan: e disse-lhes: Subi por aqui para a banda do sul, e subi à montanha:
And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, Get you up this way by the South, and go up into the hill-country.
18 E vede que terra é, e o povo que nela habita; se é forte ou fraco; se pouco ou muito.
And see the land, what it is, and the people who dwell in it, whether they are strong or weak, whether they are few or many,
19 E qual é a terra em que habita, se boa ou má: e quais são as cidades em que habita; ou em arraiais, ou em fortalezas.
and what the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad, and what cities they are that they dwell in, whether in camps, or in strongholds,
20 Também qual é a terra, se grossa ou magra: se nela há árvores, ou não: e esforçai-vos, e tomai do fruto da terra. E eram aqueles dias os dias das primícias das uvas.
and what the land is, whether it is fat or lean, whether there is wood in it, or not. And be ye of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first-ripe grapes.
21 Assim subiram, e espiaram a terra desde o deserto de Zín, até Rehob, à entrada de Hamath.
So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to the entrance of Hamath.
22 E subiram para a banda do sul, e vieram até Hebron; e estavam ali Aiman, Sesai, e Talmai, filhos de Enac: e Hebron foi edificada sete anos antes de Zoan no Egito.
And they went up by the South, and came to Hebron. And Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were there. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
23 Depois vieram até ao vale de Escol, e dali cortaram um ramo de vide com um cacho de uvas, o qual trouxeram dois homens sobre uma verga: como também das romãs e dos figos.
And they came to the valley of Eshcol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it upon a staff between two, also of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
24 Chamaram àquele lugar o vale de Escol, por causa do cacho que dali cortaram os filhos de Israel.
That place was called the valley of Eshcol, because of the cluster which the sons of Israel cut down from there.
25 Depois tornaram-se de Espiar a terra, ao fim de quarenta dias.
And they returned from spying out the land at the end of forty days.
26 E caminharam, e vieram a Moisés e a Aarão, e a toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel no deserto de Paran, a Cades, e, tornando, deram-lhes conta a eles, e a toda a congregação, e mostraram-lhes o fruto da terra
And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh, and brought back word to them, and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
27 E contaram-lhe e disseram: Fomos à terra a que nos enviaste; e verdadeiramente mana leite e mel, e este é o fruto.
And they told him, and said, We came to the land where thou sent us. And surely it flows with milk and honey, and this is the fruit of it.
28 O povo porém que habita nessa terra é poderoso, e as cidades fortes e mui grandes; e também ali vimos os filhos de Enac.
However the people who dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, very great, and moreover we saw the sons of Anak there.
29 Os amalequitas habitam na terra do sul; e os heteus, e os jebuseus, e os amorreus habitam na montanha: e os cananeus habitam ao pé do mar, e pela ribeira do Jordão.
Amalek dwells in the land of the South. And the Hittite, and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, dwell in the hill-country. And the Canaanite dwells by the sea, and along by the side of the Jordan.
30 Então Caleb fez calar o povo perante Moisés, e disse: Subamos animosamente, e possuamo-la em herança: porque certamente prevaleceremos contra ela.
And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it, for we are well able to overcome it.
31 Porém os homens que com ele subiram disseram: Não poderemos subir contra aquele povo, porque é mais forte do que nós.
But the men who went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.
32 E infamaram a terra que tinham espiado para com os filhos de Israel, dizendo: A terra, pelo meio da qual passamos a espiar, é terra que consome os seus moradores; e todo o povo que vimos no meio dela são homens de grande estatura.
And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the sons of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up the inhabitants of it. And all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature.
33 Também vimos ali gigantes, filhos de Enac, descendentes dos gigantes: e éramos aos nossos olhos como gafanhotos, e assim também éramos aos seus olhos.
And we saw there the giants, the sons of Anak, who come of the giants. And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
