Neemias 5

1 Foi porém grande o clamor do povo e de suas mulheres, contra os judeus, seus irmãos.

Nowe there was a great crie of the people, and of their wiues against their brethren the Iewes.

2 Porque havia quem dizia: Com nossos filhos, e nossas filhas, nós somos muitos; pelo que tomamos trigo, para que comamos e vivamos.

For there were that said, We, our sonnes and our daughters are many, therefore we take vp corne, that we may eate and liue.

3 Também havia quem dizia: As nossas terras, as nossas vinhas, e as nossas casas empenhamos, para tomarmos trigo nesta fome.

And there were that saide, We must gage our landes, and our vineyardes, and our houses, and take vp corne for the famine.

4 Também havia quem dizia: tomamos emprestado dinheiro até para o tributo do rei, sobre as nossas terras e as nossas vinhas.

There were also that said, We haue borowed money for the Kings tribute vpon our landes and our vineyardes.

5 Agora pois a nossa carne é como a carne de nossos irmãos, e nossos filhos como seus filhos; e eis que sujeitamos nossos filhos e nossas filhas para serem servos: e até algumas de nossas filhas são tão sujeitas, que já não estão no poder de nossas mãos; e outros tem as nossas terras e as nossas vinhas.

And nowe our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, and our sonnes as their sonnes: and lo, we bring into subiection our sonnes and our daughters, as seruants, and there be of our daughters nowe in subiection, and there is no power in our handes: for other men haue our landes and our vineyardes.

6 Ouvindo eu pois o seu clamor, e estas palavras, muito me enfadei.

Then was I very angrie when I heard their crie and these wordes.

7 E considerei comigo mesmo no meu coração; depois pelejei com os nobres e com os magistrados, e disse-lhes: Usura tomais cada um de seu irmão. E ajuntei contra eles um grande ajuntamento.

And I thought in my minde, and I rebuked the princes, and the rulers, and saide vnto them, You lay burthens euery one vpon his brethren: and I set a great assemblie against them,

8 E disse-lhes: Nós resgatamos os judeus, nossos irmãos, que foram vendidos às gentes segundo nossas posses; e vós outra vez venderieis a vossos irmãos, ou vender-se-ão a nós? Então se calaram, e não acharam que responder

And I said vnto them, We (according to our abilitie) haue redeemed our brethren the Iewes, which were solde vnto the heathen: and will you sell your brethren againe, or shall they be solde vnto vs? Then helde they their peace, and could not answere.

9 Disse mais: Não é bom o que fazeis: Porventura não andarieis no temor do nosso Deus, por causa do opróbrio dos gentios, os nossos inimigos?

I said also, That which ye do, is not good. Ought ye not to walke in the feare of our God, for the reproche of the heathen our enemies?

10 Também eu, meus irmãos e meus moços, ao ganho lhes temos dado dinheiro e trigo. Deixemos este ganho.

For euen I, my brethren, and my seruants doe lende them money and corne: I pray you, let vs leaue off this burden.

11 Restitui-lhes hoje, vos peço, as suas terras, as suas vinhas, os seus olivais, e as suas casas; como também a centena do dinheiro, do trigo, do mosto, e do azeite, que vós exigis deles.

Restore, I pray you, vnto them this day their landes, their vineyardes, their oliues, and their houses, and remit the hundreth part of the siluer and of the corne, of the wine, and of the oyle that ye exact of them.

12 Então disseram: restituir-lho-emos, e nada procuraremos deles; faremos assim como dizes. Então chamei os sacerdotes, e os fiz jurar que fariam conforme a esta palavra.

Then said they, We will restore it, and will not require it of them: we will doe as thou hast said. Then I called the Priestes, and caused them to sweare, that they shoulde doe according to this promise.

13 Também o meu regaço sacudi, e disse: Assim sacuda Deus todo o homem da sua casa e do seu trabalho que não confirmar esta palavra, e assim seja sacudido e vazio. E toda a congregação disse: amém! E louvaram ao Senhor; e o povo fez conforme a esta palavra.

So I shooke my lappe, and said, So let God shake out euery man that wil not perfourme this promise from his house, and from his labour: euen thus let him be shaken out, and emptied. And all the Cogregation said, Amen, and praised the Lord: and the people did according to this promise.

14 Também desde o dia em que me mandou que eu fosse seu governador na terra de Judá, desde o ano vinte, até ao ano trinta e dois do rei Artaxerxes, doze anos, nem eu nem meus irmãos comemos o pão do governador.

And from the time that the King gaue me charge to be gouernour in the lande of Iudah, from the twentieth yeere, euen vnto the two and thirtieth yeere of King Artahshashte, that is, twelue yeere, I, and my brethren haue not eaten the bread of the gouernour.

15 Mas os primeiros governadores, que foram antes de mim, oprimiram o povo, e tomaram-lhe pão e vinho, e além disso, quarenta siclos de prata, como também os seus moços dominavam sobre o povo: porém eu assim não fiz, por causa do temor de Deus

For the former gouernours that were before me, had bene chargeable vnto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, besides fourtie shekels of siluer: yea, and their seruants bare rule ouer the people: but so did not I, because of the feare of God.

16 Como também na obra deste muro fiz reparação, e terra nenhuma compramos: e todos os meus moços se ajuntaram ali à obra

But rather I fortified a portion in the worke of this wall, and we bought no lande, and all my seruants came thither together vnto the worke.

17 Também dos judeus e dos magistrados, cento e cincoênta homens, e os que vinham a nós, dentre as gentes, que estão à roda de nós, se punham à minha mesa

Moreouer there were at my table an hundreth and fiftie of the Iewes, and rulers, which came vnto vs from among the heathen that are about vs.

18 E o que se preparava para cada dia era um boi e seis ovelhas escolhidas; também aves se me preparavam, e de dez em dez dias de todo o vinho muitíssimo: e nem por isso exigi o pão do governador, porquanto a servidão deste povo era grande.

And there was prepared daily an oxe, and sixe chosen sheepe, and birdes were prepared for me, and within ten dayes wine for all in abundance. Yet for all this I required not the bread of the gouernour: for the bondage was grieuous vnto this people.

19 Lembra-te de mim para bem, ó meu Deus, e de tudo quanto fiz a este povo.

Remember me, O my God, in goodnesse, according to all that I haue done for this people.
