Mateus 11
1 E, aconteceu que, acabando Jesus de dar seus preceitos aos seus doze discípulos, partiu dali a ensinar e a pregar nas cidades deles.
AND it came to pass, when Jesus had finished his injunctions to his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.
2 E João, ouvindo, no cárcere, falar dos feitos de Cristo, enviou dois dos seus discípulos,
Then John, having heard in prison the works of Christ, sent two of his disciples,
3 Dizendo-lhe: És tu aquele que havia de vir, ou esperamos outro?
and said unto him, Art thou he that cometh, or should we expect another?
4 E Jesus, respondendo, disse-lhes: Ide, e anunciai a João as coisas que ouvis e vêdes:
And Jesus answering said unto them, Go, and tell John what things ye hear and see.
5 Os cegos veem, e os coxos andam; os leprosos são purificados, e os surdos ouvem; os mortos são resuscitados, e o evangelho é anunciado aos pobres.
The blind receive sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
6 E bem-aventurado é aquele que se não escandalizar em mim.
And blessed is he whosoever shall not be offended at me.
7 E, partindo eles, começou Jesus a dizer às turbas, a respeito de João: Que fostes ver no deserto? uma cana agitada pelo vento?
And when they were gone, Jesus began to speak to the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?
8 Ou que fostes vêr? um homem ricamente vestido? Os que trajam ricamente estão nas casas dos reis.
But what went ye out to see? A man clothed in delicate garments? Lo! they who wear delicate garments are in the houses of kings.
9 Ou então que fostes vêr? um profeta? sim, vos digo eu, e muito mais do que profeta:
Yet what went ye out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and abundantly more than a prophet.
10 Porque é este de quem está escrito: Eis que adiante da tua face envio o meu anjo, que preparará adiante de ti o teu caminho.
For this is he of whom it is written, “Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.”
11 Em verdade vos digo que, entre os que de mulheres tem nascido, não apareceu alguém maior do que João Batista; mas aquele que é o menor no reino dos céus é maior do que ele
Verily I say unto you, There hath not arisen, from those born of women, a greater than John the Baptist: yet he that is the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
12 E, desde os dias de João Batista até agora, se faz violência ao reino dos céus, e os violentos se apoderam dele.
But from the days of John the Baptist unto the present, the kingdom of heaven is assaulted by violence, and the invaders forcibly seize upon it.
13 Porque todos os profetas e a lei profetizaram até João.
For all the prophets and the law until John, foretold this.
14 E, se quereis dar crédito, é este o Elias que havia de vir.
And if ye will receive it, this is Elias who was to come.
15 Quem tem ouvidos para ouvir ouça.
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
16 Mas, a quem assemelharei esta geração? É semelhante aos meninos que se assentam nas praças, e clamam aos seus companheiros,
But to whom shall I resemble this generation? it is like little boys sitting in the places of concourse, and calling to their companions,
17 E dizem: tocamos-vos flauta, e não dançastes: cantamos-vos lamentações, e não chorastes.
and saying, We have piped to you, and ye have not danced; we have sung mournful ditties to you, and ye have not beat your breasts.
18 Pois veio João, não comendo nem bebendo, e dizem: Tem demônio.
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil:
19 Veio o Filho do homem, comendo e bebendo, e dizem: Eis ai um homem comilão e beberrão, amigo de publicanos e pecadores. Mas a sabedoria é justificada por seus filhos.
the Son of man is come eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, what a man! a glutton and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners: though wisdom hath been justified by her children.
20 Então começou ele a lançar em rosto às cidades onde se operou a maior parte dos seus prodígios o não se haverem arrependido, dizendo:
Then began he to upbraid the cities in which the chief of his miracles had been wrought, because they repented not:
21 Ai de ti, Corazin! ai de ti, Betsaida! porque, se em Tiro e em Sidon fossem feitos os prodígios que em vós se fizeram, há muito que se teriam arrependido, com saco e com cinza.
Wo unto thee, Chorazin! wo unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the miracles which had been wrought in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, long since would they have repented in sack-cloth and ashes.
22 Porém eu vos digo que haverá menos rigor para Tiro e Sidon, no dia do juízo, do que para vós.
Wherefore I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.
23 E tu, Cafarnaum, que te ergues até aos céus, serás abatida até aos infernos; porque, se entre os de Sodoma fossem feitos os prodígios que em ti se fizeram, teriam permanecido até hoje (Hadēs g86)
And thou, Capernaum, who hast been exalted unto heaven, shalt be cast down to hell: for if the miracles which have been wrought in thee had been done in Sodom, it had remained unto this day. (Hadēs g86)
24 Porém eu vos digo que haverá menos rigor para os de Sodoma, no dia do juízo, do que para ti.
Wherefore I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for thee.
25 Naquele tempo, respondendo Jesus, disse: Graças te dou, ó Pai, Senhor do céu e da terra, que ocultaste estas coisas aos sábios e inteligentes, e as revelaste aos meninos.
At that time Jesus spake and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and the intelligent, and hast revealed them to babes:
26 Sim, ó Pai, porque assim te aprouve.
yes, Father! since such is thy good pleasure.
27 Todas as coisas me foram entregues por meu Pai: e ninguém conhece o Filho, senão o Pai; e ninguém conhece o Pai, senão o Filho, e aquele a quem o Filho o quizer revelar.
All things are delivered up to me by my Father: and no person knoweth the Son but the Father; neither knoweth any person the Father but the Son, and he to whom the Son is pleased to reveal him.
28 Vinde a mim, todos os que estais cançados e oprimidos, e eu vos aliviarei.
Come to me, all who labour hard, and sustain heavy burdens, and I will give you relief.
29 Tomai sobre vós o meu jugo, e aprendei de mim, que sou manso e humilde de coração; e encontrareis descanço para as vossas almas.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest to your souls.
30 Porque o meu jugo é suave e o meu fardo é leve.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
