Lucas 20
1 E aconteceu num daqueles dias que, estando ele ensinando o povo no templo, e anunciando o evangelho, sobrevieram os principais dos sacerdotes e os escribas com os anciãos,
Once when Jesus was teaching the people in the Temple, telling them the good news, some of the chief priests and religious teachers came with the elders.
2 E falaram-lhe, dizendo: Dize-nos, com que autoridade fazes estas coisas? Ou, quem é que te deu esta autoridade?
They asked him, “Tell us: by whose authority are you doing what you do? Who gave you the right to do this?”
3 E, respondendo ele, disse-lhes: também eu vos farei uma pergunta: dizei-me pois:
“Let me ask you a question too,” Jesus replied. “Tell me:
4 O batismo de João era do céu ou dos homens?
the baptism of John—was it from heaven, or was it just human?”
5 E eles arrazoavam entre si, dizendo: Se dissermos: Do céu, ele nos dirá: Então porque o não crestes?
They talked about it among themselves: “If we say it was from heaven, he'll ask, ‘Then why didn't you believe him?’
6 E se dissermos: Dos homens; todo o povo nos apedrejará, pois tem por certo que João era profeta.
And if we say it was just human, everybody will stone us for they're sure John was a prophet.”
7 E responderam que não sabiam de onde era.
So they answered, “We don't know where it came from.”
8 E Jesus lhes disse: Nem tão pouco eu vos digo com que autoridade faço estas coisas.
Jesus replied, “Then I won't tell you by whose authority I do what I do.”
9 E começou a dizer ao povo esta parábola: Um certo homem plantou uma vinha, e arrendou-a a uns lavradores, e partiu para fora da terra por muito tempo;
Then he began to tell the people a story: “Once there was a man who planted a vineyard, leased it to some farmers, and went to live in another country for a long while.
10 E a seu tempo mandou um servo aos lavradores, para que lhe dessem dos frutos da vinha; mas os lavradores, espancando-o, mandaram-no vazio.
At harvest time he sent a servant to the tenant farmers to collect his share of the crop, but the farmers beat the servant and sent him away with nothing.
11 E tornou ainda a mandar outro servo; mas eles, espancando também a este, e afrontando-o, mandaram-no vazio.
So the owner sent another servant, but they beat him too and treated him shamefully, and sent him away with nothing.
12 E tornou ainda a mandar terceiro; mas eles, ferindo também a este, o expulsaram.
So he sent a third servant, but they wounded him and threw him out.
13 E disse o senhor da vinha: Que farei? Mandarei o meu filho amado; talvez que, vendo-o, o respeitem.
The owner of the vineyard asked himself, ‘What shall I do? I know, I'll send my son whom I love. Perhaps they will respect him.’
14 Mas, vendo-o os lavradores, arrazoaram entre si, dizendo: Este é o herdeiro; vinde, matemo-lo, para que a herdade seja nossa.
But when they saw him coming, the farmers said to themselves, ‘This is the owner's heir. Let's kill him! That way we can take his inheritance.’
15 E, lançando-o fora da vinha, o mataram. Que lhes fará pois o senhor da vinha?
They threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Now what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?
16 Irá, e destruirá estes lavradores, e dará a outros a vinha. E, ouvindo eles isto, disseram: Assim não seja!
He will come and kill these farmers and let others have the vineyard.” When they heard the story, they said, “May this never happen!”
17 Mas ele, olhando para eles, disse: Que é isto pois que está escrito? A pedra, que os edificadores reprovaram, essa foi feita cabeça da esquina.
But Jesus looked at them and said, “Then why is it written in the Scriptures, ‘The stone the builders rejected has now become the chief cornerstone’?
18 Qualquer que cair sobre aquela pedra será quebrantado, e aquele sobre quem ela cair será feito em pedaços.
Anyone who falls on that stone will be broken in pieces; anyone it falls upon will be crushed.”
19 E os principais dos sacerdotes e os escribas procuravam lançar mão dele naquela mesma hora; mas temeram o povo; porque entenderam que contra eles dissera esta parábola.
Immediately the religious teachers and the chief priests wanted to arrest him because they realized that the story Jesus told was aimed at them, but they were afraid of what the people would do.
20 E, trazendo-o debaixo de olho, mandaram espias, que se fingissem justos, para o apanhar em alguma palavra, e entrega-lo à jurisdição e poder do presidente.
Watching for an opportunity they sent spies who pretended to be sincere. They tried to catch Jesus out in something he said so they could hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.
21 E perguntaram-lhe, dizendo: Mestre, nós sabemos que falas e ensinas bem e retamente, e que não atentas para a aparência da pessoa, mas ensinas com verdade o caminho de Deus:
They said, “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is good and right, and that you're not swayed by the opinions of others. You truly teach the way of God.
22 É-nos lícito dar tributo a Cesar ou não?
So should we pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
23 E, entendendo ele a sua astúcia, disse-lhes: Porque me tentais?
But Jesus saw through their trickery, and said to them,
24 Mostrai-me uma moeda. De quem tem a imagem e a inscrição? E, respondendo eles, disseram: De Cesar.
“Show me a coin—a denarius. Whose image and inscription is on it?” “Caesar's,” they answered.
25 Disse-lhes então: dai pois a Cesar o que é de Cesar, e a Deus o que é de Deus.
“Then give back to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give back to God what belongs to God,” he told them.
26 E não puderam apanha-lo em palavra alguma diante do povo; e, maravilhados da sua resposta, calaram-se.
They weren't able to trap him by what he told the people. They were stunned at his reply, and fell silent.
27 E, chegando-se alguns dos saduceus, que dizem não haver ressurreição, perguntaram-lhe,
Then some of the Sadducees, who deny the resurrection, came to Jesus with this question:
28 Dizendo: Mestre, Moisés escreveu-nos que, se o irmão de algum falecer, tendo mulher, e não deixar filhos, o irmão dele tome a mulher, e suscite posteridade a seu irmão.
“Teacher,” they began, “Moses gave us a law that if a married man dies leaving a wife without children, then his brother should marry the widow and have children for his dead brother.
29 Houve pois sete irmãos, e o primeiro tomou mulher, e morreu sem filhos;
Once there were seven brothers. The first had a wife, and died without having children.
30 E o segundo tomou-a, e também este morreu sem filhos;
The second
31 E o terceiro tomou-a, e igualmente também os sete: e morreram, e não deixaram filhos.
and then the third brother also married her. In the end all seven brothers married her, and then died without having children.
32 E por último, depois de todos, morreu também a mulher.
Finally the wife died too.
33 Portanto, na ressurreição, de qual deles será a mulher, pois que os sete a tiveram por mulher?
Now whose wife will she be in the resurrection, since all seven brothers had married her?”
34 E, respondendo Jesus, disse-lhes: Os filhos deste século casam-se, e dão-se em casamento; (aiōn g165)
“Here in this age people marry and are given in marriage,” Jesus explained. (aiōn g165)
35 Mas os que forem havidos por dignos de alcançar aquele século, e a ressurreição dos mortos, nem hão de casar, nem ser dados em casamento; (aiōn g165)
“But those who are considered worthy to share in the age to come and the resurrection from the dead don't marry or are given in marriage. (aiōn g165)
36 Porque não podem mais morrer; pois são iguaes aos anjos, e são filhos de Deus, visto que são filhos da ressurreição.
They can't die any longer; they're like the angels and are children of God since they're children of the resurrection.
37 E que os mortos hão de resuscitar também o mostrou Moisés junto da sarça, quando chama ao Senhor Deus de Abraão, e Deus de Isaac, e Deus de Jacob.
But on the question of whether the dead are raised, even Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning bush, when he calls the Lord, ‘the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
38 Ora Deus não é Deus de mortos, porém de vivos; porque para ele vivem todos.
He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him they all are alive.”
39 E, respondendo alguns dos escribas, disseram: Mestre, disseste bem.
Some of the religious teachers responded, “That was a good answer, Teacher.”
40 E não ousavam perguntar-lhe mais coisa alguma.
After this no one dared to ask him any more questions.
41 E ele lhes disse: Como dizem que o Cristo é filho de David?
Then Jesus asked them, “Why is it said that Christ is the son of David?
42 Dizendo o mesmo David no livro dos salmos: Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor: Assenta-te à minha direita,
For David himself says in the book of Psalms: The Lord said to my Lord, ‘Sit at my right hand
43 Até que eu ponha os teus inimigos por escabelo de teus pés.
until I make all your enemies a footstool for your feet.’
44 De sorte que David lhe chama Senhor; e como é seu filho?
David calls him ‘Lord,’ so how can he be David's son?”
45 E, ouvindo-o todo o povo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos:
While everyone was paying attention, he said to his disciples,
46 Guardai-vos dos escribas, que querem andar com vestidos compridos; e amam as saudações nas praças, e as principais cadeiras nas sinagogas, e os primeiros lugares nos banquetes;
“Watch out for religious leaders who like to go around in long robes, and love to be greeted with respect in the markets, and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets.
47 Que devoram as casas das viúvas, fazendo, como pretexto, largas orações. Estes receberão maior condenação.
They cheat widows out of what they own, and cover up the kind of people they really are with long-winded prayers. They will receive severe condemnation in the judgment.”
