Lamentações de Jeremias 4
1 Como se escureceu o ouro! como se mudou o ouro fino e bom! como estão espalhadas as pedras do santuário ao canto de todas as ruas!
Oh how is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! how are the stones of the sanctuary poured out at the corners of every street.
2 Os preciosos filhos de Sião, avaliados a puro ouro, como são agora reputados por vasos de barro, obra das mãos do oleiro!
The precious sons of Zion, valued equal to pure gold, how are they now esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
3 Até as vacas marinhas abaixam o peito, dão de mamar aos seus filhos; porém a filha do meu povo fez-se cruel como as avestruzes no deserto.
Even wild beasts offer the breast, they give suck to their young ones: the daughter of my people is become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 A língua do mesmo que mama de sede fica pegada ao seu paladar: os meninos pedem pão, e não há quem lho reparta.
The tongue of the suckling cleaveth to its palate by reason of thirst: babes ask for bread, there is not one to break it for them.
5 Os que comiam delicadezas agora desfalecem nas ruas: os que se criaram em carmezim abraçam o esterco.
Those that used to eat dainty food are desolate in the streets: they that were reared up on scarlet now embrace dunghills.
6 E maior é a maldade da filha do meu povo do que o pecado de Sodoma, a qual se subverteu como num momento, sem que trabalhassem nela mãos algumas.
For greater is the iniquity of the daughter of my people than the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as it were in a moment, and no human hands were laid on her.
7 Os seus nazireus eram mais alvos do que a neve, eram mais brancos do que o leite, eram mais roxos de corpo do que os rubis, e mais lisos do que a safira.
Her crowned princes were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk, they were more brilliant in body than pearls, more than the sapphire, their countenance:
8 Mas agora escureceu-se o seu parecer mais do que o negrume, não se conhecem nas ruas: a sua pele se lhes pegou aos ossos, secou-se, tornou-se como um pau.
Darker than black is now their visage; they are not to be recognized in the streets: their skin is shriveled fast upon their bones; it is dry, it is become like wood.
9 Os mortos à espada mais ditosos são do que os mortos à fome; porque estes se esgotam como traspassados, por falta dos frutos dos campos.
Happier are those slain by the sword than those slain by hunger; for those poured forth their blood, being pierced through, —[these perished] without the fruits of the field.
10 As mãos das mulheres compassivas cozeram seus filhos: serviram-lhes de comida no quebrantamento da filha do meu povo.
The hands of merciful women cooked their own children: they became food unto them in the downfall of the daughter of my people.
11 Deu o Senhor cumprimento ao seu furor: derramou o ardor da sua ira, e acendeu fogo em Sião, que consumiu os seus fundamentos.
The Lord hath let loose all his fury: he hath poured out the fierceness of his anger: and he hath kindled a fire in Zion, which hath devoured her foundations.
12 Não creram os reis da terra, nem todos os moradores do mundo, que entrasse o adversário e o inimigo pelas portas de Jerusalém.
The kings of the earth, and all the inhabitants of the world, would not believe that an adversary or an enemy could ever enter within the gates of Jerusalem.
13 Pelos pecados dos profetas, pelas maldades dos seus sacerdotes, que derramaram o sangue dos justos no meio dela,
[But it hath happened] because of the sins of her prophets, the iniquities of her priests, that had shed in the midst of her the blood of the righteous.
14 Erraram cegos nas ruas, andavam contaminados de sangue; e, não podendo, levantavam as extremidades das suas roupas.
They wandered about blindly in the streets, they became defiled with blood; so that men were not able to touch their garments.
15 Chamavam-lhes: desviai-vos, é imundo; desviai-vos, desviai-vos, não toqueis, certo é que já voaram, também erraram: disseram entre as nações: Nunca mais morarão aqui.
Depart, ye unclean, they called out unto them: depart, depart, touch not. So they flee away and also wander about: men say among the nations, They shall no more sojourn there.
16 A face do Senhor os apartou, nunca mais tornará a olhar para eles: não reverenciaram a face dos sacerdotes, nem se compadeceram dos velhos.
The anger of the Lord hath divided them; he will no more look at them: the faces of the priests they respected not, and the elders they spared not.
17 Enquanto subsistiamos, ainda desfaleciam os nossos olhos, esperando o nosso vão socorro: olhavamos atentamente pela gente que não podia livrar.
Even now our eyes anxiously wait for our valueless help: in our waiting have we waited for a nation that cannot help.
18 Espiaram os nossos passos, de maneira que não podíamos andar pelas nossas ruas: está chegado o nosso fim, estão cumpridos os nossos dias, porque é vindo o nosso fim
They hunt our steps, that we cannot walk in our streets: our end is near, our days are full: for our end is come.
19 Os nossos perseguidores foram mais ligeiros do que as aves dos céus: sobre os montes nos perseguiram, no deserto nos armaram ciladas.
Swifter were our pursuers than the eagles of heaven: upon the mountains did they hotly follow us: in the wilderness did they lie in wait for us.
20 O respiro dos nossos narizes, o ungido do Senhor, foi preso nas suas covas; do qual dizíamos: Debaixo da sua sombra viveremos entre as nações.
The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, was caught in their pits, he, of whom we said, Under his shadow shall we live among the nations.
21 Regozija-te, e alegra-te, ó filha de Edom, que habitas na terra de Uz; porém ainda até a ti passará o copo; embebedar-te-ás, e te descobrirás.
Be glad and rejoice, O daughter of Edom, that dwellest in the land of 'Uz: also unto thee shall the cup pass; thou wilt be drunken, and make thyself naked.
22 Já se cumpriu a tua maldade, ó filha de Sião, nunca mais te levará em cativeiro: visitará a tua maldade, ó filha de Edom, descobrirá os teus pecados.
Brought to an end is thy iniquity, O daughter of Zion; He will no more carry thee away into exile: He visiteth thy iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He layeth open thy sins.
