Juízes 11
1 Era então Jefthe, o gileadita, valente e valoroso, porém filho de uma prostituta: mas Gilead gerara a Jefthe.
Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he [was] the son of a harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.
2 Também a mulher de Gilead lhe pariu filhos, e, sendo os filhos desta mulher já grandes, expeliram a Jefthe, e lhe disseram: Não herdarás em casa de nosso pai, porque és filho doutra mulher.
And Gilead's wife bore him sons; and his wife's sons grew up, and they thrust out Jephthah, and said to him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father's house; for thou [art] the son of a strange woman.
3 Então Jefthe fugiu de diante de seus irmãos, e habitou na terra de Tob: e homens levianos se ajuntaram com Jefthe, e saiam com ele.
Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain men to Jephthah, and [they] went out with him.
4 E aconteceu que, depois de alguns dias, os filhos de Ammon pelejaram contra Israel.
And it came to pass in process of time, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.
5 Aconteceu pois que, como os filhos de Ammon pelejassem contra Israel, foram os anciãos de Gilead buscar a Jefthe da terra de Tob.
And it was so, that when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to bring Jephthah out of the land of Tob:
6 E disseram a Jefthe: Vem, e sê-nos por Cabeça: para que combatamos contra os filhos de Ammon.
And they said to Jephthah, Come, and be our captain, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.
7 Porém Jefthe disse aos anciãos de Gilead: Porventura não me aborrecestes a mim, e não me expelistes da casa de meu pai? porque pois agora viestes a mim, quando estais em aperto?
And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, Did ye not hate me, and expel me from my father's house; and why have ye come to me now when ye are in distress?
8 E disseram os anciãos de Gilead a Jefthe: Por isso tornamos a ti, para que venhas conosco, e combatas contra os filhos de Ammon: e nos sejas por Cabeça sobre todos os moradores de Gilead.
And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, Therefore we turn again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight against the children of Ammon, and be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.
9 Então Jefthe disse aos anciãos de Gilead: Se me tornardes a levar para combater contra os filhos de Ammon, e o Senhor mos der diante de mim, então eu vos serei por Cabeça?
And Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head?
10 E disseram os anciãos de Gilead a Jefthe: O Senhor será testemunha entre nós, e assim o faremos conforme à tua palavra.
And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, The LORD be a witness between us, if we do not so according to thy words.
11 Assim Jefthe foi-se com os anciãos de Gilead, e o povo o pôs por Cabeça e príncipe sobre si: e Jefthe falou todas as suas palavras perante o Senhor em Mispah.
Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and captain over them: and Jephthah uttered all his words before the LORD in Mizpeh.
12 E enviou Jefthe mensageiros ao rei dos filhos de Ammon, dizendo: Que há entre mim e ti, que vieste a mim a pelejar contra a minha terra?
And Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou hast come against me to fight in my land?
13 E disse o rei dos filhos de Ammon aos mensageiros de Jefthe: Porquanto, saindo Israel do Egito, tomou a minha terra, desde Arnon até Jabbok, e ainda até ao Jordão: torna-ma pois agora em paz.
And the king of the children of Ammon answered to the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when they came out of Egypt, from Arnon even to Jabbok, and to Jordan: now therefore restore those [lands] again peaceably.
14 Porém Jefthe proseguiu ainda em enviar mensageiros ao rei dos filhos de Ammon,
And Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon:
15 Dizendo-lhe: Assim diz Jefthe: Israel não tomou, nem a terra dos moabitas nem a terra dos filhos de Ammon;
And said to him, Thus saith Jephthah, Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon:
16 Porque, subindo Israel do Egito, andou pelo deserto até ao Mar Vermelho, e chegou até Cades.
But when Israel came up from Egypt, and walked through the wilderness to the Red sea, and came to Kadesh;
17 E Israel enviou mensageiros ao rei dos edomitas, dizendo: Rogo-te que me deixes passar pela tua terra. Porém o rei dos edomitas não lhe deu ouvidos; enviou também ao rei dos moabitas, o qual também não quis: e assim Israel ficou em Cades.
Then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land: but the king of Edom would not hearken [to it]. And in like manner they sent to the king of Moab; but he would not [consent]. And Israel abode in Kadesh.
18 Depois andou pelo deserto, e rodeou a terra dos edomitas e a terra dos moabitas, e veio do nascente do sol à terra dos moabitas, e alojaram-se de além de Arnon; porém não entraram nos limites dos moabitas, porque Arnon é limite dos moabitas.
Then they went along through the wilderness, and compassed the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon [was] the border of Moab.
19 Mas Israel enviou mensageiros a Sehon, rei dos amorreus, rei de Hesbon: e disse-lhe Israel: Deixa-nos, peço-te, passar pela tua terra até ao meu lugar.
And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land to my place.
20 Porém Sehon não se fiou de Israel para este passar nos seus limites; antes Sehon ajuntou todo o seu povo, e se acamparam em Jasa, e combateu contra Israel.
But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon collected all his people, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21 E o Senhor Deus de Israel deu a Sehon com todo o seu povo na mão de Israel, e os feriram: e Israel tomou por herança toda a terra dos amorreus que habitavam naquela terra.
And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.
22 E por herança tomaram todos os limites dos anciãos, desde Arnon até Jabbok, e desde o deserto até ao Jordão.
And they possessed all the borders of the Amorites, from Arnon even to Jabbok, and from the wilderness even to Jordan.
23 Assim o Senhor Deus de Israel desapossou os amorreus de diante do seu povo de Israel: e os possuirias tu?
So now the LORD God of Israel hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldst thou possess it?
24 Não possuirias tu aquele que Camos, teu deus, desapossasse de diante de ti? assim possuiremos nós todos quantos o Senhor nosso Deus desapossar de diante de nós.
Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever the LORD our God shall drive out from before us, them will we possess.
25 Agora pois és tu ainda melhor do que Balac, filho de Zippor, rei dos moabitas? porventura contendeu ele em algum tempo com Israel, ou pelejou alguma vez contra eles?
And now [art] thou any thing better than Balak the son of Zippor king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them,
26 Enquanto Israel habitou trezentos anos em Hesbon e nas suas vilas, e em Aroer e nas suas vilas, em todas as cidades que estão ao longo de Arnon, porque o não recuperastes naquele tempo?
While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and her towns, and in Aroer and her towns, and in all the cities that [are] along by the borders of Arnon, three hundred years? why therefore did ye not recover [them] within that time?
27 Tão pouco pequei eu contra ti! porém tu usas mal comigo em pelejar contra mim: o Senhor, que é juiz, julgue hoje entre os filhos de Israel e entre os filhos de Ammon.
Wherefore I have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: the LORD the Judge be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.
28 Porém o rei dos filhos de Ammon não deu ouvidos às palavras de Jefthe, que lhe enviou.
But, the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not to the words of Jephthah which he sent him.
29 Então o espírito do Senhor veio sobre Jefthe, e atravessou ele por Gilead e Manasseh: porque passou até Mispah de Gilead, e de Mispah de Gilead passou até aos filhos de Ammon.
Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead, and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over [to] the children of Ammon.
30 E Jefthe votou um voto ao Senhor, e disse: Se totalmente deres os filhos de Ammon na minha mão,
And Jephthah vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into my hands,
31 Aquilo que, saindo da porta de minha casa, me sair ao encontro, voltando eu dos filhos de Ammon em paz, isso será do Senhor, e o oferecerei em holocausto.
Then it shall be, that whatever cometh out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD'S, and I will offer it for a burnt-offering.
32 Assim Jefthe passou aos filhos de Ammon, a combater contra eles: e o Senhor os deu na sua mão.
So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and the LORD delivered them into his hands.
33 E os feriu com grande mortandade, desde Aroer até chegar a Minnith, vinte cidades, e até Abel-keramim; assim foram subjugados os filhos de Ammon diante dos filhos de Israel.
And he smote them from Aroer even till thou comest to Minnith, [even] twenty cities, and to the plain of the vineyards, with a very great slaughter. Thus the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.
34 Vindo pois Jefthe a Mispah, à sua casa, eis que a sua filha lhe saiu ao encontro com adufes e com danças: e era ela só a única; não tinha outro filho nem filha.
And Jephthah came to Mizpeh to his house, and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she [was his] only child; beside her he had neither son nor daughter.
35 E aconteceu que, quando a viu, rasgou os seus vestidos, e disse: Ah! filha minha, muito me abateste, e és dentre os que me turbam! porque eu abri a minha boca ao Senhor, e não tornarei atráz.
And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: for I have opened my mouth to the LORD, and I cannot go back.
36 E ela lhe disse: pai meu, abriste tu a tua boca ao Senhor, faze de mim como saiu da tua boca: pois o Senhor te vingou dos teus inimigos, os filhos de Ammon.
And she said to him, My father, [if] thou hast opened thy mouth to the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thy enemies, [even] of the children of Ammon.
37 Disse mais a seu pai: Faça-se-me isto: deixa-me por dois meses que vá, e desça pelos montes, e chore a minha virgindade, eu e as minhas companheiras.
And she said to her father, Let this thing be done for me: Let me alone two months, that I may go up and down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my fellows.
38 E disse ele: vai. E deixou-a ir por dois meses: então foi-se ela com as suas companheiras, e chorou a sua virgindade pelos montes.
And he said, Go. And he sent her away [for] two months: and she went with her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.
39 E sucedeu que, ao fim de dois meses, tornou ela para seu pai, o qual cumpriu nela o seu voto que tinha votado: e ela não conheceu varão; e daqui veio o costume de Israel,
And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned to her father, who did with her [according] to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
40 Que as filhas de Israel iam de ano em ano a lamentar a filha de Jefthe, o gileadita, por quatro dias no ano.
[That] the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
