João 4
1 E quando o Senhor entendeu que os fariseus tinham ouvido que Jesus fazia e batizava mais discípulos do que João
Now when Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard, “Jesus is making and baptizing more disciples than John”
2 (Ainda que Jesus mesmo não batizava, mas os seus discipulos),
(although Jesus Himself was not baptizing, but His disciples),
3 Deixou a Judeia, e foi outra vez para a Galiléia.
He left Judea and went away into Galilee.
4 E era-lhe necessário passar por Samaria.
Now He needed to go through Samaria;
5 Foi pois a uma cidade de Samaria, chamada Sicar, junto da herdade que Jacob deu a seu filho José.
so He comes to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 E estava ali a fonte de Jacob; Jesus, pois, cançado do caminho, assentou-se assim junto da fonte. Era isto quase à hora sexta.
Now Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, being worn out from the journey, sat as He was by the well. It was about 6 p.m.
7 Veio uma mulher de Samaria tirar água: disse-lhe Jesus: Dá-me de beber.
A woman of Samaria comes to draw water. Jesus says to her, “Give me a drink.”
8 Porque os seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade comprar comida.
(His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9 Disse-lhe pois a mulher samaritana: Como, sendo tu judeu, me pedes de beber a mim, que sou mulher samaritana? (porque os judeus não se comunicam com os samaritanos)
So the Samaritan woman says to Him, “How can you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, being a Samaritan woman?” (for Jews do not associate with Samaritans).
10 Jesus respondeu, e disse-lhe: Se tu conheceras o dom de Deus, e quem é o que te diz: Dá-me de beber, tu lhe pedirias, e ele te daria água viva.
Jesus answered and said to her: “If you knew the gift of God, and who is the one saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”
11 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, tu não tens com que a tirar, e o poço é fundo: onde pois tens a água viva?
The woman says to Him: “Sir, you don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep; so where do you get this living water?
12 És tu maior do que o nosso pai Jacob, que nos deu o poço, e ele mesmo dele bebeu, e os seus filhos, e o seu gado?
You aren't greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”
13 Jesus respondeu, e disse-lhe: Qualquer que beber desta água tornará a ter sede;
Jesus answered and said to her: “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,
15 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, dá-me dessa água, para que não mais tenha sede, e não venha aqui tira-la.
The woman says to Him, “Sir, give me this water! so that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
16 Disse-lhe Jesus: vai, chama a teu marido, e vem cá.
Jesus says to her, “Go, call your husband and come back here.”
17 A mulher respondeu, e disse: Não tenho marido. Disse-lhe Jesus: Disseste bem: Não tenho marido;
The woman answered and said, “I don't have a husband.” Jesus says to her: “You stated correctly that you do not have a husband,
18 Porque tiveste cinco maridos, e o que agora tens não é teu marido; isto disseste com verdade.
because you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is no husband of yours. You spoke the truth there!”
19 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, vejo que és profeta.
The woman says to Him: “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.
20 Nossos pais adoraram neste monte, e vós dizeis que é em Jerusalém o lugar onde se deve adorar.
Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, while you (pl) say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 Disse-lhe Jesus: Mulher, crê-me que a hora vem, quando nem neste monte nem em Jerusalém adorareis o Pai.
Jesus says to her: “Woman, believe me, a time is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.
22 Vós adorais o que não sabeis; nós adoramos o que sabemos porque a salvação vem dos judeus.
You [Samaritans] worship what you do not know; we [Jews] worship what we do know, because the salvation is from the Jews.
23 Porém a hora vem, e agora é, em que os verdadeiros adoradores adorarão o Pai em espírito e em verdade; porque o Pai procura a tais que assim o adorem.
But the time is coming, in fact now is, when the genuine worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Really, because the Father is looking for such people to worship Him.
24 Deus é espírito, e importa que os que o adoram o adorem em espírito e em verdade.
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 A mulher disse-lhe: Eu sei que o Messias (que se chama o Cristo) vem; quando ele vier, nos anunciará todas as coisas.
The woman says to Him: “I know that Messiah is coming (who is called Christ). When He comes He will explain everything to us.”
26 Jesus disse-lhe: Eu sou, o que falo contigo.
Jesus says to her, “I am He, the one who is talking with you!”
27 E nisto vieram os seus discípulos, e maravilharam-se de que falasse com uma mulher; todavia nenhum lhe disse: Que perguntas? ou: Que falas com ela?
At that point His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman; yet no one said, “What do you want?” or “Why are You talking with her?”
28 Deixou pois a mulher o seu cântaro, e foi à cidade, e disse àqueles homens:
So the woman left her water jar, went her way into the town, and says to the men:
29 Vinde, vede um homem que me disse tudo quanto tenho feito: porventura não é este o Cristo?
“Come see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?”
30 Sairam pois da cidade, e foram ter com ele.
So out they went from the town and started toward Him.
31 E entretanto os seus discípulos lhe rogaram, dizendo: rabi, come.
Now in the meantime the disciples were urging Him saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 Porém ele lhes disse: Uma comida tenho para comer, que vós não sabeis.
But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”
33 Então os discípulos diziam uns aos outros: Trouxe-lhe porventura alguém de comer?
So the disciples started saying to one another, “Could someone have brought Him something to eat?”
34 Jesus disse-lhes: A minha comida é fazer a vontade daquele que me enviou, e cumprir a sua obra.
Jesus says to them: “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to complete His work.
35 Não dizeis vós que ainda há quatro meses até que venha a ceifa? eis que eu vos digo: levantai os vossos olhos, e vede as terras, que já estão brancas para a ceifa
Do you not say, ‘There are four months before the harvest comes?’ Well I say, Look! Lift your eyes and observe the fields; they are white for harvest already!
36 E o que ceifa recebe galardão, e ajunta fruto para a vida eterna; para que, assim o que semeia, como o que ceifa, ambos se regozijem. (aiōnios g166)
Now he who reaps receives pay and gathers fruit into eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. (aiōnios g166)
37 Porque nisto é verdadeiro o ditado, que um é o que semeia, e outro o que ceifa.
Now the saying, ‘One is the sower and another the reaper,’ is true in this:
38 Eu vos enviei a ceifar onde vós não trabalhastes; outros trabalharam, e vós entrastes no seu trabalho.
I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labors.”
39 E muitos dos samaritanos daquela cidade creram nele, pela palavra da mulher, que testificou, dizendo: Disse-me tudo quanto tenho feito.
Now many of the Samaritans from that city believed into Him because of the word of the woman, testifying that “He told me everything I ever did!”
40 Indo pois ter com ele os samaritanos, rogaram-lhe que ficasse com eles; e ficou ali dois dias.
So when the Samaritans came to Him they urged Him to stay with them; and He did stay there two days.
41 E muitos mais creram nele, por causa da sua palavra.
Many more believed through His own word,
42 E diziam à mulher: Já não é pelo teu dito que nós cremos; porque nós mesmos o temos ouvido, e sabemos que este é verdadeiramente o Cristo, o Salvador do mundo.
and they kept saying to the woman, “It is not just because of what you said that we believe, because we ourselves have heard Him, and we know that this One is truly the Messiah, the Savior of the world!”
43 E dois dias depois partiu dali, e foi para a Galiléia.
So after the two days He departed from there and went on into Galilee.
44 Porque Jesus mesmo testificou que um profeta não tem honra na sua própria pátria.
(For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet does not have honor in his own country.)
45 Chegando pois à Galiléia, os galileus o receberam, vistas todas as coisas que fizera em Jerusalém no dia da festa; porque também eles tinham ido à festa.
So when He came into Galilee the Galileans welcomed Him, having seen all the things that He did in Jerusalem, at the festival; for they too had gone to the festival.
46 Segunda vez foi Jesus a Caná da Galiléia, onde da água fizera vinho. E havia ali um regulo, cujo filho estava enfermo em Cafarnaum.
So Jesus went again to Cana of Galilee, where He made the water wine. Now there was a certain royal official whose son was sick in Capernaum.
47 Ouvindo este que Jesus vinha da Judeia para a Galiléia, foi ter com ele, e rogou-lhe que descesse, e curasse o seu filho, porque já estava à morte.
When this man heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.
48 Então Jesus lhe disse: Se não virdes sinais e milagres, não crereis.
So Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders you will not believe!”
49 Disse-lhe o regulo: Senhor, desce, antes que meu filho morra.
The official says to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”
50 Disse-lhe Jesus: vai, o teu filho vive. E o homem creu na palavra que Jesus lhe disse, e foi-se.
Jesus says to him, “Go; your son lives.” Well the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and off he went.
51 E, descendo ele logo, sairam-lhe ao encontro os seus servos, e lhe anunciaram, dizendo: O teu filho vive.
Now while he was still going down his slaves met him and reported saying, “Your son lives!”
52 Perguntou-lhes pois a que hora se achara melhor; e disseram-lhe: ontem às sete horas a febre o deixou.
So he inquired of them the hour in which he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”
53 Entendeu pois o pai que era aquela hora a mesma em que Jesus lhe disse: O teu filho vive: e creu ele, e toda a sua casa.
So the father knew that it was at the exact hour in which Jesus told him, “Your son lives.” Both he himself and his whole household believed.
54 Jesus fez este segundo sinal, quando ia da Judeia para a Galiléia.
Again, coming out of Judea into Galilee, Jesus performed this second miraculous sign.
