Jó 35

1 Respondeu mais Elihu e disse:

Moreover Elihu answered and said:

2 Tens por direito dizeres: Maior é a minha justiça do que a de Deus?

Thinkest thou this to be thy right, or sayest thou: 'I am righteousness before God',

3 Porque disseste: De que te serviria ele? ou de que mais me aproveitarei do que do meu pecado?

That thou inquirest: 'What advantage will it be unto Thee?' And: 'What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?'

4 Eu te farei resposta, a ti e aos teus amigos contigo.

I will give thee answer, and thy companions with thee.

5 Atenta para os céus, e vê; e contempla as mais altas nuvens, que são mais altas do que tu

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

6 Se pecares, que efetuarás contra ele? se as tuas transgressões se multiplicarem, que lhe farás.

If thou hast sinned, what doest thou against Him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto Him?

7 Se fores justo, que lhe darás? ou que receberá da tua mão?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou Him? Or what receiveth He of thy hand?

8 A tua impiedade danaria outro tal como tu; e a tua justiça aproveitaria ao filho do homem.

Thy wickedness concerneth a man as thou art; and thy righteousness a son of man.

9 Por causa da grandeza da opressão fazem clamar aos oprimidos: exclamam por causa do braço dos grandes.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; they cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

10 Porém ninguém diz: Onde está Deus que me fez, que dá salmos na noite.

But none saith: 'Where is God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night;

11 Que nos faz mais doutos do que os animais da terra, e nos faz mais sábios do que as aves dos céus.

Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?'

12 Ali clamam, porém ele não responde, por causa da arrogância dos maus.

There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

13 Certo é que Deus não ouvirá a vaidade, nem atentará para ela o Todo-poderoso.

Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 E quanto ao que disseste, que o não verás: juízo há perante ele; por isso espera nele.

Yea, when thou sayest thou canst not see Him — the cause is before Him; therefore wait thou for Him.

15 Mas agora, ainda que a ninguém a sua ira visitasse, nem advertisse muito na multidão dos pecadores:

And now, is it for nought that He punished in His anger? And hath He not full knowledge of arrogance?

16 Logo Job em vão abriu a sua boca, e sem ciência multiplicou palavras.

But Job doth open his mouth in vanity; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
