1 Porém agora se riem de mim os de menos idade do que eu, cujos pais eu teria desdenhado de pôr com os cães do meu rebanho.
But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
2 De que também me serviria a força das suas mãos? já de velhice se tinham esgotado neles.
Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?
3 De míngua e fome andavam sós, e recolhiam-se para os lugares secos, tenebrosos, assolados e desertos.
For lack and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
4 Apanhavam malvas junto aos arbustos, e o seu mantimento eram as raízes dos zimbros.
Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their food.
5 Do meio dos homens foram expulsos, e gritavam contra eles, como contra o ladrão:
They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief; )
6 Para habitarem nos barrancos dos vales, e nas cavernas da terra e das rochas.
To dwell in the cliffs of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
7 Bramavam entre os arbustos, e ajuntavam-se debaixo das ortigas.
Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
8 Eram filhos de doidos, e filhos de gente sem nome, e da terra foram expulsos.
They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
9 Porém agora sou a sua canção, e lhes sirvo de rifão.
And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
10 Abominam-me, e fogem para longe de mim, e do meu rosto não reteem o seu escarro.
They detest me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
11 Porque Deus desatou o meu cordão, e me oprimiu, pelo que sacudiram de si o freio perante o meu rosto.
Because he has loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
12 Á direita se levantam os moços; empurram os meus pés, e preparam contra mim os seus caminhos de destruição.
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
13 Desbarataram-me o meu caminho: promovem a minha miséria: não tem ajudador.
They ruin my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
14 Veem contra mim como por uma grande brecha, e revolvem-se entre a assolação.
They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
15 Sobrevieram-me pavores; como vento perseguem a minha honra, e como nuvem passou a minha felicidade.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passes away as a cloud.
16 E agora derrama-se em mim a minha alma: os dias da aflição se apoderaram de mim.
And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
17 De noite se me traspassam os meus ossos, e os pulsos das minhas veias não descançam.
My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
18 Pela grandeza da força das dores se demudou o meu vestido, e ele como o cabeção da minha túnica me cinge.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it binds me about as the collar of my coat.
19 Lançou-me na lama, e fiquei semelhante ao pó e à cinza.
He has cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
20 Clamo a ti, porém tu não me respondes: estou em pé, porém para mim não atentas.
I cry unto you, and you do not hear me: I stand up, and you regard me not.
21 Tornaste-te a ser cruel contra mim: com a força da tua mão resistes violentamente.
You are become cruel to me: with your strong hand you oppose yourself against me.
22 Levantas-me sobre o vento, fazes-me cavalgar sobre ele, e derretes-me o ser.
You lift me up to the wind; you cause me to ride upon it, and dissolve my substance.
23 Porque eu sei que me levarás à morte e à casa do ajuntamento determinado a todos os viventes.
For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.
24 Porém não estenderá a mão para o montão de terra, se houve clamor neles contra mim na sua desventura.
Nevertheless he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
25 Porventura, não chorei sobre aquele que estava aflito? ou não se angustiou a minha alma pelo necessitado?
Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
26 Todavia aguardando eu o bem, então me veio o mal, e esperando eu a luz, veio a escuridão.
When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
27 As minhas entranhas ferveram e não estão quietas: os dias da aflição me surpreenderam.
My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.
28 Denegrido ando, porém não do sol, e, levantando-me na congregação, clamo por socorro.
I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.
29 Irmão me fiz dos dragões, e companheiro dos avestruzes.
I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.
30 Enegreceu-se a minha pele sobre mim, e os meus ossos estão queimados do calor.
My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
31 Pelo que se trocou a minha harmonia em lamentação, e o meu órgão em voz dos que choram.
My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
