Jeremias 10
1 Ouvi a palavra que o Senhor vos fala a vós, ó casa de Israel.
Hear ye the word which the Lord hath spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.
2 Assim diz o Senhor: Não aprendais o caminho das nações, nem vos espanteis dos sinais dos céus: porque com eles se atemorisam as nações.
Thus saith the Lord: Learn not according to the ways of the Gentiles: and be not afraid of the signs of heaven, which the heathens fear:
3 Porque os estatutos dos povos são vaidade: pois corta-se do bosque um madeiro, obra das mãos do artífice, com machado;
For the laws of the people are vain: for the works of the hand of the workman hath cut a tree out of the forest with an axe.
4 Com prata e com ouro o enfeitam, com pregos e com martelos o firmam, para que não se abale.
He hath decked it with silver and gold: he hath put it together with nails and hammers, that it may not fall asunder.
5 São como a palma da obra mágica, porém não podem falar; necessitam de ser levados aos ombros, porquanto não podem andar; não tenhais temor deles, pois não podem fazer mal, nem tão pouco tem poder de fazer bem.
They are framed after the likeness of a palm tree, and shall not speak: they must be carried to be removed, because they cannot go. Therefore, fear them not, for they can neither do evil nor good.
6 Pois ninguém há semelhante a ti, ó Senhor: tu és grande, e grande o teu nome em força.
There is none like to thee, O Lord: thou art great and great is thy name in might.
7 Quem te não temeria a ti, ó Rei das nações? pois isto te compete a ti; porquanto entre todos os sábios das nações, e em todo o seu reino, não há semelhante a ti.
Who shall fear thee, O king of nations? for thine is the glory: among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms there is none like unto thee.
8 Pois juntamente todos se embruteceram e vieram a enlouquecer: ensino de vaidades é o madeiro.
They shall all proved together to be senseless and foolish: the doctrine of their vanity is wood.
9 Trazem prata estendida de Tarsis e ouro d'Uphaz, para obra do artífice, e das mãos do fundidor: fazem seus vestidos de azul celeste e púrpura; obra de sábios são todos eles.
Silver spread into plates is brought from Tharsis, and gold from Ophaz: the work of the artificer, and of the hand of the coppersmith: violet and purple is their clothing: all these things are the work of artificers.
10 Porém o Senhor Deus é a verdade; ele mesmo é o Deus vivo e o Rei eterno; do seu furor treme a terra, e as nações não podem suportar a sua indignação.
But the Lord is the true God: he is the living God, and the everlasting king, at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his threatening.
11 Assim lhes direis: Os deuses que não fizeram os céus e a terra perecerão da terra e de debaixo deste céu.
Thus then shall you say to them: The gods that have not made heaven and earth, let them perish from the earth, and from among those places that are under heaven.
12 Ele é aquele que fez a terra com o seu poder, que estabeleceu o mundo com a sua sabedoria, e com a sua inteligência estendeu os céus.
He that maketh the earth by his power, that prepareth the world by his wisdom, and stretcheth out the heavens by his knowledge.
13 Dando ele a sua voz, logo há arroido de águas no céu, e faz subir os vapores da extremidade da terra: faz os relâmpagos juntamente com a chuva, e faz sair o vento dos seus tesouros.
At his voice he giveth a multitude of waters in the heaven, and lifteth up the clouds from the ends of the earth: he maketh lightnings for rain, and bringeth for the wind out of his treasures.
14 Todo o homem se embruteceu, e não tem ciência; envergonha-se todo o fundidor da imagem de escultura; porque sua imagem fundida mentira é, e não há espírito nelas.
Every man is become a fool for knowledge every artist is confounded in his graven idol: for what he hath cast is false, and there is no spirit in them.
15 Vaidade são, obra de enganos: no tempo da sua visitação virão o perecer.
They are vain things and a ridiculous work: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16 Não é semelhante a estes a porção de Jacob; porque ele é o que o formou, e Israel é a vara da sua herança: Senhor dos exércitos é o seu nome.
The portion of Jacob is not like these: for it is he who formed all things: and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: the Lord of hosts is his name.
17 Ajunta da terra a tua mercadoria, ó moradora na fortaleza.
Gather up thy shame out of the land, thou that dwellest in a siege.
18 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Eis que desta vez lançarei como com funda aos moradores da terra, e os angustiarei, para que venham a acha-lo, dizendo:
For thus saith the Lord: Behold I will cast away far off the inhabitants of the land at this time: and I will afflict them, so that they may be found.
19 Ai de mim por causa do meu quebrantamento! a minha chaga me causa grande dor; e eu havia dito: Certamente enfermidade é esta que poderei suportar.
Woe is me for my destruction, my wound is very grievous. But I said: Truly this is my own evil, and I will bear it.
20 Já a minha tenda está destruída, e todas as minhas cordas se romperam; já os meus filhos sairam de mim, e não são; ninguém há mais que estenda a minha tenda, nem que levante as minhas cortinas.
My tabernacle is laid waste, all my cords are broken: my children are gone out from me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21 Porque os pastores se embruteceram, e não buscaram ao Senhor: por isso não prosperaram, e todos os seus gados se espalharam.
Because the pastors have done foolishly, and have not sought the Lord: therefore have they not understood, and all their flock is scattered.
22 Eis que vem uma voz de fama, grande tremor da terra do norte, para fazer das cidades de Judá uma assolação, uma morada de dragões.
Behold the sound of a noise cometh, a great commotion out of the land of the north: to make the cities of Juda a desert, and a dwelling for dragons.
23 Bem sei eu, ó Senhor, que não é do homem o seu caminho nem do homem que caminha o dirigir os seus passos.
I know, O Lord, that the way of a man is not his: neither is it in a man to walk, and to direct his steps.
24 Castiga-me, ó Senhor, porém com medida, não na tua ira, para que me não reduzas a nada.
Correct me, O Lord, but yet with judgement: and not in fury, lest thou bring me to nothing.
25 Derrama a tua indignação sobre as nações que te não conhecem, e sobre as gerações que não invocam o teu nome; porque comeram a Jacob, e o devoraram, e o consumiram, e assolaram a sua morada.
Pour out thy indignation upon the nations that have not known thee, and upon the provinces that have not called upon thy name: because they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have destroyed his glory.
