Tiago 1
1 Thiago, servo de Deus, e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, às doze tribos que andam dispersas, saúde.
James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, sends greeting to the twelve tribes that are scattered abroad.
2 Meus irmãos, tende grande gozo quando cairdes em várias tentações:
My brothers, when you are beset by various temptations, count it all joy,
3 Sabendo que a prova da vossa fé obra a paciência:
because you know that the testing of your faith is working out endurance.
4 Tenha, porém, a paciência a obra perfeita, para que sejais perfeitos e completos, sem faltar em coisa alguma.
But let endurance have its perfect work, so that you may be perfect and entire, not lacking in anything.
5 E, se algum de vós tem falta de sabedoria, peça-a a Deus, que a todos dá liberalmente, e o não lança em rosto, e ser-lhe-á dada
If any one of you is lacking in wisdom, let him ask it from the God who gives to all men freely and without upbraiding; and it will be given to him.
6 Porém peça-a com fé, não duvidando; porque o que dúvida é semelhante à onda do mar, que é levada pelo vento, e lançada de uma para outra parte.
But let him ask in faith, without wavering; for he who wavers is like a surge of the sea, wind-driven and tossed.
7 Não pense o tal homem que receberá do Senhor alguma coisa.
Such a man need not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord,
8 O homem de coração dobre é inconstante em todos os seus caminhos.
double-minded as he is, unstable at every turn.
9 Porém o irmão abatido glorie-se na sua exaltação,
Let a brother in humble circumstances glory in his exaltation;
10 E o rico em seu abatimento; porque ele passará como a flôr da erva.
but a rich brother, in his humiliation; because like the flower of the grass the rich man will pass away.
11 Porque sai o sol com ardor, e a erva seca, e a sua flor cai, e a formosa aparência do seu aspecto perece: assim se murchará também o rico em seus caminhos.
For as the sun comes up with a burning heat, it withers the grass, and its flowers fall, and the grace of the fashion of it perishes; so also shall the rich man fade away amid his pursuits.
12 Bem-aventurado o varão que sofre a tentação; porque, quando for provado, receberá a coroa da vida, a qual o Senhor tem prometido aos que o amam.
Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love him.
13 Ninguém, sendo tentado, diga: De Deus sou tentado; porque Deus não pode ser tentado pelo mal, e a ninguém tenta.
When he is being tempted, let no one say, "It is God who tempts me," for God cannot be tempted with evil, nor does he tempt any man.
14 Porém cada um é tentado, quando atraído e engodado pela sua própria concupiscência.
But each man is tempted by his own lusts that allure and entice him.
15 Depois, havendo a concupiscência concebido, pare o pecado; e o pecado, sendo consumado, gera a morte.
Then lust conceives and gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is mature, brings forth death.
16 Não erreis, meus amados irmãos.
Do not be deceived, my brothers!
17 Toda a boa dádiva e todo o dom perfeito é do alto, e desce do Pai das luzes, em quem não há mudança nem sombra de variação,
Every good gift and every perfect boon is from above, and is ever coming down to us from the Father of the heavenly lights, with whom is no variation nor shadow of eclipse.
18 Segundo a sua vontade, ele nos gerou pela palavra da verdade, para que fossemos como primícias das suas criaturas.
Because he willed, he gave us birth through the word of truth, so that we should be a kind of first-fruits among his creatures.
19 Assim que, meus amados irmãos, todo o homem seja pronto para ouvir, tardio para falar, tardio para se irar.
Mark this well, my dear brothers. Let every man be swift in hearing, slow in speaking, slow in growing angry;
20 Porque a ira do homem não opera a justiça de Deus.
for a man’s anger does not further the righteous purpose of God.
21 Pelo que, rejeitando toda a imundícia e superfluidade de malícia, recebei com mansidão a palavra enxertada em vós, a qual pode salvar as vossas almas.
So strip off all filthiness and superfluity of wickedness, and in meekness receive the implanted Word, which is able to save your souls.
22 E sede obradores da palavra, e não somente ouvintes, enganando-vos com falsos discursos.
And become doers of the Word, and not merely hearers, deceiving yourselves.
23 Porque, se alguém é ouvinte da palavra, e não obrador, é semelhante ao varão que contempla ao espelho o seu rosto natural;
Because if any one is a hearer of the Word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;
24 Porque se contempla a si mesmo, e foi-se, e logo se esqueceu de que tal era.
for after he has looked carefully at himself, he goes away, and at once forgets what he is like.
25 Porém aquele que atenta bem para a lei perfeita da liberdade, e nisso persevera, não sendo ouvinte esquecido, mas fazedor da obra, este tal será bem-aventurado no seu feito.
But the man who looks closely into the perfect law - the law of liberty - and continues looking, this man will be blessed in his deed because he is not a hearer who forgets, but a doer who does.
26 Se alguém entre vós cuida ser religioso, e não refreia a sua língua, antes engana o seu coração, a religião do tal é vã
If a man thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own religion,
27 A religião pura e imaculada para com Deus o Pai é esta: Visitar os órfãos e as viúvas nas suas tribulações, e guardar-se imaculado do mundo.
and undefiled before our God and Father, to look after orphans and widows in their affliction, and ever to keep himself unspotted from the world.
