Tiago 2
1 Meus irmãos, não tenhais a fé de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Senhor da glória, em acepção de pessoas.
MY brethren, hold not the faith of our glorious Lord Jesus shewing a respect for persons.
2 Porque, se no vosso ajuntamento entrar algum homem com anel de ouro no dedo, com vestidos preciosos, e entrar também algum pobre com vestido sordido,
For if there come into your congregation a man with a gold ring, and in splendid apparel, and there come in also a poor man in a sordid garb;
3 E atentardes para o que traz o vestido precioso, e lhe disserdes: Assenta-te tu aqui num lugar de honra; e disserdes ao pobre: Tu, fica ai em pé, ou assenta-te abaixo do meu estrado;
and ye fix your eyes upon him who bears the splendid robe, and say to him, Sit thou here in an honourable place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool:
4 Porventura não fizestes diferença dentro de vós mesmos, e não vos fizestes juízes de maus pensamentos?
are you not thus partial among yourselves, and form your decision from bad reasonings?
5 Ouvi, meus amados irmãos: Porventura não escolheu Deus aos pobres deste mundo para serem ricos na fé, e herdeiros do reino que promete aos que o amam?
Hear me, my beloved brethren. Hath not God elected the poor of this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which God hath promised to those who love him;
6 Porém vós desonrastes o pobre. Porventura não vos oprimem os ricos, e não vos arrastam aos tribunais?
but ye have put contempt on the poor man? Do not the rich men tyrannize over you? and they drag you to the tribunals.
7 Porventura não blasfemam eles o bom nome que sobre vós foi invocado?
Do they not blaspheme that honourable name by which ye are called?
8 Todavia, se cumprirdes, conforme a escritura, a lei real: Amarás a teu próximo como a ti mesmo, bem fazeis.
If indeed ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
9 Porém, se fazeis acepção de pessoas, cometeis pecado, e sois redarguidos pela lei como transgressores.
but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
10 Porque qualquer que guardar toda a lei, e deslisar em um só ponto, é culpado de todos.
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, but offendeth in a single particular, he is chargeable with the breach of all.
11 Porque aquele que disse: Não cometerás adultério, também disse: Não matarás. Se tu pois não cometeres adultério, porém matares, estás feito transgressor da lei
For he that said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not commit murder. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, yet dost commit murder, thou art a transgressor of the law.
12 Assim falai, e assim obrai, como devendo ser julgados pela lei da liberdade.
So speak, and so act, as those who shall be judged by the law of liberty.
13 Porque o juízo virá sem misericórdia sobre aquele que não fez misericórdia; e a misericórdia gloría-se contra o juízo.
For judgment without mercy shall be on him who shewed no mercy, and mercy glorieth against judgment.
14 Meus irmãos, que aproveita se alguém disser que tem fé, e não tiver as obras? Porventura a fé pode salvá-lo?
What is the advantage, my brethren, if a man profess to have faith, but hath not works; can faith save him?
15 E, se o irmão ou a irmã estiverem nus, e tiverem falta de mantimento quotidiano,
Now if a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16 E algum de vós lhe disser: Ide em paz, aquentai-vos, e fartai-vos; e lhe não derdes as coisas necessárias para o corpo, que proveito virá daí?
and should one of you say to them, Go in peace, be warm, be replenished with food: yet if ye give them not the necessaries for their body; what doth it avail?
17 Assim também a fé, se não tiver as obras, está morta em si mesma.
So also faith, if it hath not works, is dead itself.
18 Porém dirá alguém: Tu tens a fé, e eu tenho as obras: mostra-me a tua fé pelas tuas obras, e eu te mostrarei a minha fé pelas minhas obras.
Perhaps a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith by thy works, and I will shew thee by my works my faith.
19 Tu crês que há um só Deus: fazes bem; também os demônios o crêem, e estremecem.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe and tremble.
20 Mas, ó homem vão, queres tu saber que a fé sem as obras está morta?
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Porventura o nosso pai Abraão não foi justificado pelas obras, quando ofereceu sobre o altar o seu filho Isaac?
Was not our father Abraham justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Bem vês que a fé cooperou com as suas obras, e que a fé foi aperfeiçoada pelas obras.
Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith consummated.
23 E cumpriu-se a escritura, que diz: E creu Abraão em Deus, e foi-lhe isso imputado a justiça, e foi chamado o amigo de Deus.
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, “Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness;” and he was called “the friend of God.”
24 Vedes então que o homem é justificado pelas obras, e não somente pela fé.
Observe therefore that by works a man is justified, and not by faith merely.
25 E de igual modo Rahab, a meretriz, não foi também justificada pelas obras, quando recolheu os emissários, e os despediu por outro caminho?
But was not Rahab the harlot in like manner justified by works, when she entertained the messengers, and sent them away by a different road?
26 Porque, assim como o corpo sem o espírito está morto, assim também a fé sem as obras está morta.
For as the body without breath is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
